Scar

I think everyone has a scar in their lives. May it be a physical one or an emotional one, the damage is never long lasting but the mark will always be there. I've been listening to Ayumi's "Scar" over and over...

Mitzu @ Mac Centre

Macquarie Centre is definitely vamping up and with the new addition of the sushi train/restaurant opposite the cinemas called Mitzu, that top level is looking heaps classy.

Mitzu is probably another Korean-undercover-Japanese restaurant but the selection of sushi travelling along that train can definitely rival Makoto. The interior is a very classy black, splashed with red and a tint of gold theme. Another of those cliché sophisticated Asian interior look. The waitresses all wear the high collar "qi-pao" top (you know those dresses in the 50s or 60s Shanghai) with black boots. The decorations are again, based on the "minimalist" principles, using only a big golden fan against a backwall of red. The tables are indeed, black of course (to go with the rest of the theme) and even the sushi plates are all red.

The prices are quite reasonable, starting from $2.50 to $4.50 being the most expensive. Since all the plates are red, the only way they code the price levels are based on the number of dots on the plates. One criticism is that the poor waitress, when counting the number of plates for each price level, is that when the plates are stacked up, it is actually quite hard to see the number of dots on the plates. We were nice and stacked up our plates in rows according to the number of dots. The waitress used the trust system and just simply wrote the plates down for each category based on how we stacked the plates. Hmm... sooner or later they will figure out that they will be ripped off big time if they keep doing this.

The chefs are both Korean and Japanese, which is probably why they can offer a different selection of sushi rolls, due to the fusion of flavours. Besides the traditional nigiri on the menu (a rice ball with raw fish on top), the sushi rolls are highly recommended. There was one with a crab salad filling, cucumber, with smoked salmon on the outside with a bit of melted cheese on top, a teriyaki fish with avocado roll with bonito flakes on the outside. Moreover, the sauces that accompany these sushi rolls are also quite exquisite.

Service was a bit slow. We waited at our table for like 10 minutes without soy sauce dish and we ended up stealing them from other tables that were free. No one attended to us, asking us for a drink or whatsoever. When we did manage to get hold a waitress to order our drink, the drink never came.

All in all, they probably will improve as time goes by, in terms of their customer service. The girls working there have probably never worked in a restaurant before and so they always seemed to look like they were in a panic, despite the restaurant being only about 50% capacity.

Platinum

It's been awhile since we last visited Platinum. The food and service is always good. However we had this rude lady sitting next to us and Champs overheard her "talking" about us when our food arrived.

"Oh... they ordered risotto and a HAMBURGER..."

Did she think we were stupid and that we, as Asians, only ate rice??? Yes, we ordered small things because we can't eat THAT much, not because we were cheap and couldn't afford it. She, herself, ate quite a lot herself. When we arrived, she was already making her way through a calamari and chips and although it's on the menu as a "starter", the serving size is quite adequate to be a main meal itself. Then after half an hour later, when we finished our meals, she ordered a main meal this time. It amazes how much some people can eat.

When procrastination strikes...

I KNEW I should have done work but the assignment is really getting nowhere! So I decided to do some cooking to kill time...

Delish-cious chicken and mushroom pie and the all-time favourite spaghetti bolognaise...
Don't ask for a recipe coz it was all improvised but I'm sure you can always google a recipe from the net!

<-- Yum yum!

Then after dinner, Chappy and I visited Wanda and Andrew and of course, the REAL incentive was really to see little Alex!
