090808 A Maple Story Event

There was the 3rd celebration birthday bash for Maple Story happening in Cineleisure. They needed part-timers for the event and so Sasa (Melissa) and I went for it. It was a whole day event but it was a real eye-opener for me. Why? Hundreds came and you yourself would be surprise the amount of cash cards (what they use to buy their "items" in their game) they brought in for gift redemption. I was assigned to the redemption counter where hundreds and thousands of cards had to be count, value calculated and prizes given for redemption. haha. Nonetheless, it was really fun to see how enthusiastic these maple story fans were during the whole day event. Even watching people queing up to buy more cash cards while paying hundreds of RM the whole day. Majority of the gamers were ladies... hehe I even had a mom and daughter, each had a Maple Story account came to redeem their cash value. I got to admit I got pretty interested in how the game was played and what was the attraction. But I haven't got around to that yet =)

Melissa was assign to take care of a game booth and she had to stand almost the whole day! poor girl =)

To top it off, she was teased by Gerard for half a day~ for what reason, I'm sure U can guess.

Kidz Zone Event-

Two jobs available :

1. Escort the Sunway Mascot (dressed in Pirates outfit )

2. Create hype around the kids apparel stores (Entertain kids while sing nursery rhymes)

Who's the mascot?

Leon.. nahhh he wasn't. Playing around before the mascot person came. It really stink of sweat! Trust me! =)

Oh yeah, did I mention? Hundreds of balloons had to be blown to be given away while escorting the mascot. Not an easy job where you had to hold all the balloons, get ppl tugging you for balloons (even adults), having ppl wanting balloons in their fav color, escorting the mascot, smile and take pics with the mascot and kids.

JOB 2: Phoebe, Jon, Yen

After 3 rounds of audition, we were told that we were chosen. What audition? We had to sing, pretend we were talking to kids while being recorded - pretty much what we would do in one hour if we were chosen. Each day, we would have dress up in diff themes, color. If you saw me in pigtails during church service or wearing fake eyelashes... this was the reason. :) 3 voices and the sound of the acoustic guitar were heard!! which was really fun. In the hour, we walked around stores, singing at different spots every 15 minutes, play with the kids, give out sweets and call it a day. On our first day, we were a little shy, a little embarrass. Having people watching you sing, having your friends recognizing you can be a little intimidating. However after a few days, none of these were bothering us. It was more like having FUN then work - sort of a signing session together. lols.

Some highlights

One man asked if we sang for parties. He asked for our contacts =) The whole conversation was really funny.
I was holding a bag of sweets. This guy was carrying his son. I approached him, opened the bag and hold it out to him so his son could choose a sweet. He put RM2.00 in it. After explaining to him, we returned his money while his wife laughed at him. poor guy *wink*
The guitar string snapped half way thru.
We had adults coming and asked if they could take pics with us while we were singing.. it went something like this.. OK smile. "we sing: Insy-winsy" ONE TWO THREE "we smiled and hummed" OK DONE! down came the rain and washed the spider out. =)
One guy came up and asked if we were doing this for our assignment or some sort
One lady came up and told us "great job"

Tis the season

The time has come for this semester to come to an end. 5 subjects down. One week holiday till the start of the new semester with 6 new subjects. To those many would have graduate after this semester I'm really happy for you. To those who are not- I'm in the same boat with you. =)

Well, it's time for an update. During the first 7 weeks for my short semester, my group was working on designing webpages for our Multimedia design assignment- a clothing company called "OneStopForTwo". The 7 weeks came to an end. Then came the time for my E commerce final assignment where each group had to hand in a business proposal and a website. Since, we already had a rough draft of a so-called website, my group (Dixon, Paul, Me) decided and agreed to push our creativity and ideas further. To tell you the truth, we knew to come out with a business proposal on an online clothing company wasn't going to be easy as there were already so many stable existing online clothing companies out there. Even so, there were so many things that I learnt from this assignment - how to think from a different perspective, learning to look at things from a "business-student" point-of-view, working with different programs that I have never used before. Researches were done on our competitor's websites-looking for the disadvantages and advantages of each site in terms of design, functions, etc. Many brain-wrecking thoughts, handwork, hours of sleep have been put in this assignment and I must say, the whole team pulled through and I, personally am glad how things worked out.

Designs were created on Photoshop whereas Dream Weaver, Flash and bunch of other softwares (that I can't remember too) were used in this assignment which are the 2 guy's forte. Working in a network was pretty fun. The atmosphere was something like this. 3-4 laptops in the living room. I would be working on photoshop designing. Done! put them in a folder and Paul gets them the same time. He'll work on them on DreamWeaver, putting them into tables and do some cool stuffs with them and put them in a folder for Dixon to link them. Oh no! mistake!!.. send over and this goes back and forth. Forms were made and pages done increased as ideas mounted upon another. Thank God for friends and family! They made our work easier and ideas seem possible.

Photography Final Assignment.

I posted some images of my final assignment earlier and here are the rest that I handed in which earned me an A to my greatest utmost delight together with my previous assignments. Thanks to the 3 beautiful ladies. haha Spending hours having makeup applied to their faces, pose for photoshoots and rewashing their faces after each photoshoot. What would I do without them? M thankful and grateful *smiles*

but it was hard work too. Thick mounting boards had to be measured and cut. =) Took me close to 6 hrs to get them done neatly. but it was worth the time.

At the end of this assignment, not only did I learn a whole lot more about photography, I also manage to get the opportunity to practice my makeup n hair styling techniques. I really should start saving and invest in some better quality cosmetics. Maybe I should. =)

In spite of the "i got assignment" bzee moments, there were also literally baking moments. Sometimes, I get a bite or two, sometimes none, sometimes all. haha. Here are some of her latest orders.

Some small projects I got to work on recently. Birthday cards, farewell cards... had so much fun doing it, something to keep my mind away from studies and assignments, not forgetting side income too. =)

Others

A good friend of mine, Rebekah who was taking Hotel Management had serving on a Monday. We had vouchers for dinner (fine dining) and Rebekah was our server. A lil brief about it. Every Monday, they will have to serve 4 guests, and will be judge base on their serving (practical test). So, we were all dressed up and sitted on the table. Lovely deco, cool menu till Suz spotted a typo. hehe. We giggled and settled down.

Rebekah came over, "Good evening, welcome...... {welcome introduction in proper English} Would you like to have warm water or ice water miss?" The Rebekah we usually talk to was now speaking totally professionally. We all burst out laughing but quickly quiet down when we saw her lecturer coming our way.

Rebekah: in her usual tone"Eh don la laugh.. got marks wan leh".

... ok Um, ice water would do. Thank you".

All of a sudden, we all became a lil tense too.. wondering what would happen next.. She came with a bottle of wine.

"Eh not bad ahh... free dinner got wine somore. Bekah, can drink wan ah" we whispered

"Yen, just look and see ni.. Just smell and say you want to try k?"-the bottle was actually water, but they were tested on how their opened the wine bottle and to serve etc.

Minutes later, bread and butter was served...

Leon looked around. We looked around.

Leon: "Eh this want can eat wan ah?"

We weren't' sure if they were to eat or not after the wine bottle episode.. haha

"can can... can eat la.. enjoy your meal haha"

So we enjoyed the rest of the night.... with Rebekah making delicious pancakes with caramel sauce in front of us. A great cook indeed!!

Other than taking pics of people, I had a one day photoshoot in Port Dickson for a fren's photography final assignment.

A Saturday morning.

My Saturday morning was rather a great one. E-commerce morning class was cancelled and photography class was well, pretty much only for consultation with no lessons on. An opportunity to sleep in abit. *smiles*

Then.... I got the opportunity to get crafty.

Suz: Yen... can make a simple card? or not an envelope.. can? They had a friend's wedding to attend that evening. Initially, sis had asked me to make a simple scrap page for the bride and bridegroom but I never got to doing it. So yeah.

Started off with making an envelope with vellum. Then the thought came. "Why not combine the envelope and card together?" So, that was how the stripe paper thingy came about. Printed some wordings on a separate piece of vellum so there will be a lil flap for them to write their wishes for the newlyweds.

Verdict: Satisfied. haha

Another thing I had put off in doing in the pass: Altering Suz' lil black dress. And she wanted to wear it this evening. hehe. The transformation begins.

Well, it wasn't really much of an altering job to be done. But she wanted to transform it into a spaghetti dress instead of a tube dress.. So bought some satin cloth yesterday to add the straps.

Ready for tonight.

Lesson: Don't procrastinate. =)

A lil sneak peak.. 16.06.08

Photography assignment is due 2 weeks time. 12 days to be more precise. 8 pictures to shoot, print, mount and present. The theme I chose to go with was "Colorful Portraits" -a temporary theme while I think of a more decent name. The idea and theme I had in mind was combining 2 things I know and can do- Make-Up & Photography. 8 portraits, 8 color themes. haha What kind of makeup should I go for? It was a challenge for me since I never got started on Fashion Make-Up in my basic cosmetology course, one on my list of regrets. Research began for pictures and ideas. Feedback from friends.... and the process still continues.

Come out of the safe mode and dare to try new things. I use to think fashion make- up looked really weird.. but now I kind of see it from a different prespective. =) I understand if some of you might find blue lipstick rather weird. haha

Here's one I did today and I would like to share with you. Today's theme was blue. Today was my first time applying eyeshadow on someone's lips. Something new, still trying different stuffs. It's probably pretty amateur-ish done but I'm happy with this as a start. Fingers crossed for a better job in the other themes.

Make up.

Eyes: Light Blue eyeshadow

Dark Blue eyeshadow

Black liquid eyeliner

Lips: Blue eyeshadow (fill -in)

Silver (highlight)

Black (outline)

Cheeks: Orange blusher

Hair: Tied half with fake piece of hair attached (curls)- glad it was still useful after the road show I did last year.

Time: 1 1/2hr given to complete the whole shoot. (makeup, photo shoot, wash-up)

Model: Rebekah Tan ( you probably saw her in alot of my photo assignments )

Manage to complete within the time frame. Thank God! However, it didn't come easy. There were alot of setbacks.... but HE's too good to see me all discouraged and disappointed! There were good news and they were solutions to those setbacks. Ready for the list?

1. Drawback: Rebekah rushed from work. Sick and tired. Nodding off while I was applying her makeup

Goodnews: Bed!! She slept while I applied her makeup

2. Drawback: Housemates asleep. No one to help.

Goodnews: Leon was awake!

3. Drawback: No nice simple background.

Goodnews: Leon helped hold the black piece of cloth as the background.

4. Drawback: I didn't have my external flash and I didn't want to use a high ISO.

Goodnews: Tripod! Manage to use a lower shutterspeed without it being blur.

5. Drawback: Not enough light.... =( Lazy to get out my reflector and study lamp etc..

Goodnews: It was 5+pm. and manage to get window lighting.

6. Drawback: Limited space in my room.

Goodnews: Tripod on the bed and manage to get some pretty cool angles.

So there's all the setbacks and solutions. Glad despite those, the picture still turned out pretty.

I should start tidying up my room now..... after the photoshoot, the lil room sure can get pretty messy. :) But the joy of it makes it all worthit!

Especially when the model says I love it =) One sentence to make any photographer beam with joy.

Genting trip

We made a trip to Genting last month during our college break. It was a really fun trip for all of us though the theme park was pretty crowded. The last time I was in Genting was when I was 6. So this trip together with my hsemates and school buddies was truly an enjoyable one!!

When we were tired we headed back home and played pictionary, made our own maggie mee, guessing who farted each time (hehe)... oh yeah we did had a relaxing time there.

which was also a birthday surprise for my 19th birthday. 19 cupcakes as requested instead of a cake. =) i'll post the vid up some time soon.

Dixon, Melissa and I made a half day trip all the way to PD for a photoshoot, for Dixon's photography assignment. We had a good tan.. well a lil sun burn but it was great walking along the beach without flip flops, the sand, sea, view, wind... were just ahhhhhhh =) I love the beach and I've made a mental note to see a lighthouse during the night the next time I go to PD

It might not be something you are going through; maybe a friend or a close family member. Tragedies and pain can strike any person, and we need to allow the Master Craftsman to put us back together according to His design, rather than trying to find all the pieces and glue ourselves together without Him. When we reach a dead end and no where else to turn, we can be comforted that there's someone waiting for us with open arms, waiting for us to run into His arms, to be embraced and comforted. Always there to tell and show you that YOU are Loved when the world tells you otherwise.

Lying on my bed tonight, as I was doing my devotion this was my tonight's message. Trust God today to turn your brokenness into something of beauty and value.
