| In case anyone wants to go, here's an invitation to a restaurant benefit going on TODAY... Just got this from my boss, so I may go for lunch - on the company would be nice, but we'll see...
**Eat Lunch or Dinner at Gumbo's Today and Benefit the Dell Children's Medical Center**
Please come dine with us from 11 am -2pm for lunch and 5-10 pm for dinner on Monday, May 8, 2006. Gumbo's Louisiana Style Cafe in Round Rock will be donating a portion of your bill to benefit the new Dell Children's Medical Center of Central Texas.
Yay for helping kids!! I think the Dell Children's Medical Center is the one that they're building at the old Austin airport... I wonder if they're hiring... :P so much to post from last week's whirlwind of activities at work - more to come...
Edit: Went to Gumbo's for lunch on the company! :) Seafood gumbo was good... yum! And found out that there are a lot more restaurants participating, so if you have a chance to go for dinner (5-9 PM), here's the link to the list of restaurants: Miracle Dining Celebration.
| so I was going to wait until Thursday to write to be consistent with my
two previous posts since I've re-started xanga-ing, but I figured I
should break the pattern, make things interesting you know? haha... so you'll have to guess when the next post comes... ok, three things...
I had a fun girl's weekend in Houston - karaoke, sleep over, dim sum,
discount purse shopping, Chinese grocery shopping, and smoothies and
milk tea for a much more reasonable price! Speaking of which,
before we left to come back I bought an almond milk tea to help keep me
awake on the drive home. And being a "smart" traveler, I
intentionally used the restroom before I left Houston, but I really
needed to pee when we were about 30 minutes from home, and there were
no fast food places around, only gas stations and the airport, so we
pulled into the airport to use their restroom facilities... it
felt a little weird because I wasn't actually dropping off/ picking up
anyone or leaving/returning from the airport myself, but I really
needed to pee!!! haha... From all the road trips I've been
on, I've never liked gas station restrooms - they're always so dirty
and unkept, and feel really unsafe especially at night since there's
usually only one semi-lockable room at the back of the gas
station. And in contrast the airport is much cleaner, has many
stalls, and has security people all over the place!
So back to the tea, apparently it has a lot more caffeine in it than I
thought, and caffeine
is a diuretic, and since I don't typically consume much caffeine I think
the tea
I drank had a stronger affect on me than normal. Caffeine is really bad
for me - the first and last time I had coffee it kept me up for 48
hours... yay for yummy milk teas, boo on caffeine and coffee.
So back to the running thing, I officially began "training" today for
the 5K Bun Run that's in 13 days!!! I honestly don't think it's
enough time to train well, but my goal isn't to come in first
time-wise, but rather to be more healthy overall. Honestly, it's
not the long-sleeved t-shirt either, cuz I think the logo with the running bun guy looks
really strange! I probably
should set a time goal for myself too in addition to finishing the
race - I think I'll just
try to do better than my last 5K (which I think was 45 minutes-ish...
yeah, I know I'm slow, but I run/ walked it last time, and trained even
less... ) We'll see how things progress.
One last thing... I've been
thinking a lot about life and purpose, and how my current job fits into
God's life picture for me, especially in the area of how leaving my job
would influence to the relationships that he's helped me
to develop while I've been there. Funny, cuz I think I've been
more worried about these relationships than changing jobs per
say... I'm beginning to realize that I need to trust in God to
continue
to work in people's lives if and when He wants me to be somewhere
else, and to know that He can take care of them (and me) better than I
can. It's amazing to try to grasp how God pieces everything
together in His perfect timing and placement, all to help us grow and
to give Him glory.

| Yay for Scott finishing the Capital 10K in a great time!
After successfully completing his first big run, he's been trying to
convince me to run the Schlotzsky's Bun Run at the end of April so that
we can get long-sleeve t-shirts for free... This has gotten me
thinking: Is a free long-sleeved t-shirt really worth the time and
energy one puts forth for training and running a 5K race? I'm not sure
that the shirt would motivate me, especially if (and since) I have to
pay to run in the race too, but I guess it's good that most (if not
all) of these races benefit a non-profit organization or something so
that the money raised is going to a good cause. And I guess being
healthy could possibly be another motivating factor... maybe.
On a different note, today was our first day in a couple's Bible study
group... and one of the ice breaker questions brought up an interesting
issue about dates. The discussion seemed to lead to the conclusion that
a wife and husband's perceptions of what is classified as a "date" or
"going on a date" are often different, as are various couple's opinions
on what it means or entails. I don't remember it being as
prominent of an issue before or for my non-married friends who are
dating now, but I could be wrong. Can a "date" or "going on a date" be
classified/ categorized? Does it need to be? Can people go to the gym
to work out as a "date"? Does staying at home to cook and watch a tv
show or movie count as a date? Do you have to actually go somewhere for
an activity of some sort? And does eating always have to be a part of
it?

| WOW!... it's been almost 1/2 a year since my last post... geez life really moves fast...
So I have a question... Scott and Peylin are running the Capital 10K in Austin this weekend, and since I'm not running it I wanted to go out and support them, especially since it's Scott's first long distance run! I've heard of people who drive to different points along the race course and stop to stand on the side and wave and cheer or provide water to their runner or pass out gummy bears, or do all of the above, etc. Does anyone who's done it before have any tips, or is anyone else going to cheer people on too who would want to carpool with me?! I'd like to map out my course by Saturday and maybe take a test drive beforehand? So PLEASE let me know if you can help! So much planning, SO CRAZY!!
Random dream... I've heard people talk about seeing themselves in a dream with their future spouse and never being able to see their future spouse's face to figure out who they are. I don't think I've ever had one of those dreams, (and it wouldn't matter now that I have Scott ...), but over the weekend I had a dream that I was attending Alex's wedding, but I couldn't figure out who his bride-to-be was. I saw them standing in the ceremony and saw Alex's face as he looked at her, but couldn't see her face!! Isn't that weird?!? After I told them the dream, Scott and Alex were asking me what her hair color was, how tall she was, if she had long hair, etc., but all of what I remember was pretty generic - dark hair, not taller than Alex (but probably wearing heels), hair in a loose updo... I guess it just didn't occur to me in my dream to look at the program to see her NAME!!! Alex asked me if I had the gift of prophecy, which I don't think I do, but if it means anything, I do think that you'll get married someday Alex, I just don't know when and to whom...
And not that I'm counting but I've used 5 smileys so far in this post... someone made a comment once that I use too many smileys in my posts and e-mails... so I confess! I'm a smiley-addict! Haha... Number 6!
| I just found this, and am going to meet a friend tomorrow for lunch. I didn't want to send out a mass e-mail... so in case anyone wants to go, here's the info:
