Seriously, this guy is going to set a record or something. Death Race. A remake of the '70s movie starring David Carradine and Sylvester Stalone but with one subtle difference, this ones pretty good. That and the new one is set in a prison as opposed to the open road like the last one. It isn't overly brutal, you feel for the hero (Statham) and the bad guy gets it in the end. What's more to like? This movie isn't overly complicated, just fun... with rocket launchers.

The story is solid but totally formulaic. (that' ok as long as the formula works right?) I was a big fan of the first Mummy. The second was... ok... it had some good moments. What really drew me to the first two was the relationship/ chemistry of Rick and Evey. (Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz) Well is this one Evey has been replaced by someone else portraying here. That doesn't work for me. You probably noticed that Evey was left out of all of the trailers too. Yeah... stupid actors, who cares if she has 5 other movies coming out. Statham's got like 25 more coming... -

That's it for this week, see you next time and don't forget the nachos. -

Friday, August 29, 2008

I took a test this morning I saw at a friends site. I was slightly surprised to find out that it is a real test, not just another "fun" internet test. A few of the questions left me feeling a little bit uncomfortable and I began to discover myself truly analyzing who I am as a sexual person. Are we supposed to act like they are truly about unity and solidarity and the metamorphosis of a nominee into an official candidate while we ignore the 4 days of obstinate posturing and grand standing that's just full of rhetoric and false claims - or -
Are we supposed to recognize all of the conceit, deception and charlatans pretending to put America first while we choke on our own hypocrisy in being the ones who have allowed this kind of travesty to continue unchecked?

When did 'We The People' become "We The Privileged "? Check that, I'm not that naive...

When did it get OK to throw it in my face in such a blatant manner?

I understand from my own experience that people don't like to talk about religious beliefs openly, unless they've "just been saved", because most people don't understand in depth what they actually believe in and therefore don't dive into the deep end of the religion they're following. Well politics is much the same. Believe in a snippet, follow the hearsay, quote the misquoted or forward the e-mailed malarkey. Are we truly that uncaring? Are we truly that lazy? Or are we counting on the Divine providence that has guided our nation to continue to protect us in the depths of our disinterest?

I think we are in trouble. It was a fun romp through a different type of hero story. The problem was, it wasn't that great of a story. The villain was weak and the ending was rushed and confusing. You would have to be a lump to not enjoy the characters. In the new one the story is pretty solid but I have a very western idea about what an Elf is supposed to look like and had a problem with the elves in this movie. That being said, this movie is a great way to waste a couple of hours of you life. Ron Perlman is great as Hellboy. Directed by the guy who did 'Pan's Labyrinth'.

What can you say about a group of actors playing the part of actors making a war movie? This movie is a really good idea on many different levels but left me with the feeling that they left talent on the table. Ben Stiller is his usual funny self. Jack Black plays his manic character well and once again Robert Downey Jr. turns in a wonderful performance of a white actor playing a black man in the movie. There is a scene where Stillers character accidently uses the phrase "You people" to Downey's character and it is hilarious. The problem with this movie once again is Hollywood's desire to sell you gross, in your face and obsene material as funny. Jack Benny NOT playing his violin was funny. The producers need to realize when you have this much talent you just need better writers.

That's it for this week, see you next time and don't forget the nachos. -

Friday, August 22, 2008

<!--[if gte mso 9]><xml>

In all actuality I think this was a movie about healing. You probably remember the news stories about him or will recall them if you watch the movie. Some parts of this movie slowed to a crawl for me, but for the most part it was pretty interesting and it is very well made. It makes you think about how you look at life.

If the Hulk movie with Eric Bana disappointed you, you need to give this one a try. I think that Ed Norton captures the feeling of Bill Bixby very well in this movie. The story is solid and the special effects are much much better. I thought it could have stood a little more humor and compared to Batman and Iron Man it id definitely in third place but it can hold it's own against most of the other movies that I've seen this year.
