| | I've always been more a dim sum lover, although the trend among the younger people seems to favour Sushi. Call me China-man, but nothing beats a huge selection of meaty, warm and steamy dim sum for me to choose from.
Before this, 90% of the time I'll head to Sri Petaling, the unofficial capital of KL dim sum, for cheap & satisfying dim sum meal (yum cha for you Aussies & Hong Kies). But then one fine day, my friend and my cousin recommended me an alternative. So one fine night, I headed there to try it out.
The first thing I noticed when I arrived at that restaurant, was almost all tables are unoccupied. I quickly called my cousin and get confirmation with him on the name of the restaurant. After making sure I'm at the right one, I chose a table outdoor, and a waiter came almost immediately with a big tray of dim sums.
When I looked at the dim sum, I was shocked to see how cold and unappetizing they look like. I was thinking to myself, "Shucks, I'm so going to kill that fella (my cousin)!". Then only I realised that they will only steam or heat up the dim sum that you've selected. OOOoooohhhh....I see!
They have a open-view kitchen concept, which has become a sort of trend nowadays.
Once steamed/heated up, the food is quickly served. And one bite on those dim sum, I immediately was able to tell what is so different about this restaurant as compared to others. The first thing you will noticed is how generous they are with the amount of prawn they put in those lil' gems! And not just alot, but very fresh as well.

And almost all the dim sums there are considerably larger in size, as compared to other similar dim sum restaurants (excluding expensive hotel dim sum & other upper-class eateries). One would expect it to be pricier since the size is bigger, but no, the price range (RM2.50-RM4) is similar with its "peers".

But of course, not everything is so commendable. One thing to avoid is their "Hong Kong Chee Cheong Fun". Small in portion, ordinary in taste, lacklustre in appearance.
* the forgettable Hong Kong Chee Cheong Fun
According to my cousin, the restaurant is packed every morning, not just the weekends. So if you are a fan of morning dim sum, do try to get there as early as possible. But for sleep-lover like me, its heaven-on-earth to have a nighttime dim sum place like this, and without the "people-mountain-people-sea"!
Restoran Kam Him
Address: Jalan 1/116B, Kuchai Lama
(from KL-Seremban Highway, exit to Jln Kuchai Lama. After the ramp, you will come to a traffic light junction. Go straight into the Kuchai's Entepreneur Park shophouses area. After about 150 metres, you will see a Projet petrol station on your left. The restaurant is on the row of shophouses right after Projet. And right opposite Sri Desa Condominium.) |
