| I Hope We Can Stay Friendsafter the election.... It's so easy to get riled up and opinionated when it comes to this November's election. The Presidential Election of 2008 is like no other in history... an African American candidate, an OLD candidate, a Female VP candidate, in the midst of a war, with the weakest economic condition in decades... we have a lot of consider. There's a lot at stake. Even among the Asian Christians I know (same ethnically and religiously), there are a ton of differing opinions. I'm surprised at the issues some of my friends prioritize, but as a political newbie... I have nothing to base it off of. I just hope I can be open-minded and consider the platforms of both left and right sides... I want to be able to listen to my friend's opinions and speak my own mind without offending someone else. Can we still be friends if we side with different candidates? ... I hope so! <edit> Janine brought up a good point on gchat... Janine: hahahah but poor shannon your vote doesn't really matter either way in california it's good to have opinions tho but not necessary to lose friendship over | | |
| I <3 Michael Phelps
8 Gold Medals at the age of 23! He makes being the fastest swimmer in the world look so dang easy! Watching him obliterate the World Record (of course set by himself in 2004) by almost an entire body length was absolutely mind blowing. Michael Phelps is a terrific athlete making strides in history for earning the most gold medals in a single Olympic Games and earning the most career Golds! I totally believe that he is an excellent representative of the United States bringing honor and pride to Americans.
The Olympics have been really exciting! I'm not completely addicted to watching every second, but I definitely appreciate the events that I've witnessed (mostly swimming and gymnastics). I love the feeling of being a part of something bigger and greater. We live in a world with so many different countries, backgrounds and people groups. The Olympics is a world stage to showcase great athletes from each country and watch them compete! It's like voluntary interaction between peoples who may not share the same language but rather the same love and devotion for a sport. What's not to love?? Anyway, I gotta share this great link that Kristina put on her gchat about Steve Parry mobbed in Tiananmen because some Chinese people mistakened him for Phelps! | | |

| Breakfast for DinnerI love eating breakfast foods for dinner. Cereal, pancakes, eggs, bagels... breakfast foods are the best! For some reason, breakfast food during breakfast is just o.k. I usually like to eat a light breakfast, fruit, yogurt, cereal in the mornings. When it comes to dinner, then the pancakes, sausage links, omelettes sound so appetizing! When I lived in Beijing, a bunch of my foreigner friends and I frequented Lush, a Westerners joint open 24/7. They had the BEST breakfast served all day. Towards the end of the year, I had Lush's Homestyle breakfast at least once a week for dinner. 2 Pancakes, scrambled eggs, crispy bacon and a side of fruit. SO AWESOME... maybe I'm just hungry, but I'd give top dollar to have the Homestyle from Lush right now.... ::drool:: | | |
| Exhausted ContentmentI can't quite figure out if the title of this entry is misleading... does it sound like I am implying I might be tired of being content? Well anyway, what I meant to communicate is that I'm friggin' tired, but this is the best kind of tired. I just finished the planning stages of retreat this weekend. I'm so happy and content right now, I wish I could bask in this for a while longer, but tomorrow has already become today. I'm sad that I won't be able to attend the first night of retreat because I'll be in OC for a wedding (again, I wouldn't miss this wedding for the world, but you must understand the hours of work put into coordinating this retreat...), but I'm really excited to hang out with the kids and other advisors from Sat-Sun.
There were times over the last 2 weeks that I wondered why I accepted PD's offer to coordinate the retreat... I had flashbacks of a certain wedding that I suffered post-stress syndrome from and had major health issues for the month following... why on Earth have I not learned from past experiences? I must say, this experience was tiring, but totally 100% worth it! I learned a lot. Yeah yeah, there are always things to learn logistically and in working with different types of people. But this time I feel so blessed to have served alongside such selfless leaders who practice real humility. I am so impressed by a few key individuals who after suffering undoubtedly much more than I, are still smiling and happy and not frowning with bitterness! haha...
We maxed out the capacity of the conference center. We reserved over 40 rooms in hotels nearby, we're ordering in from restaurants because the campsite doesn't have enough food to feed us all. It is basically a logistical nightmare we're dealing with, but hey... God provides and its awesome how He answered our prayers for 100 youth to sign up. Actually, we have 115 kids coming! +advisors totaling 139 people for the Youth (almost double last year)Totally crazy...Anyway... really tired, really happy, really excited for the weekend. Bring it!
