Hi all, Mum's doing ok,she still gets dizzy spells but all three pills have dizziness as a side effect.Have started spring cleaning getting the woodfire smoke off the walls and give them a coat of paint.Outside have started to get the yard back to looking reasonable,The first of the cottage roses have come out.Have put some tomatoes, potatoes, herbs,a couple of strawberry plants, and some assorted flowers.Oh and I got on the roof to clean out the flue. That's all for now see you all soon,

Well that was a lovely cup of tea.We then took the bucket full of frothy stuff that was left after the milk went through the separater,up to give to the pigs.It was spring and all the farm animals were having there young including the pig. This day pop thought he would give me a ride on the pig,as he went to put me on her back she decided she wanted to take off so unfortunately I ended up on the ground almost having a relationship with a surveyor's peg, after getting over the fact we didn't have a camera,we wiped the laughter tears from our eyes and went down to the kill shed.Once a week this was done to feed meat to the workers.I won't go into details of that but to say it was humane and quick.Nearly time to go home for lunch,I wondered what it would be hot mutton, cold mutton,it was cold today.Nan and Pop only had a meat safe and no refrigerator,so meat had to be cooked fairly quickly to help it keep.Nan had also cooked some scones we had with butter we made in the churn and raspberry jam made from there own crop,it was a hard but very good life.Well I had to go up to town to get two loaves of bread from the bakery,I loved that smell as you got closer to the bakery mmmmm.Back to work some gardening for pop and I mowed the tennis court, with a vicious rover mower which was self propelled . Pop came to check on me luckily and found me chasing this mower around the court, never did get the hang of it. After that I was demoted to weeding the crazy pave path that went the whole side of the house, which was very big 15 bedrooms. In it's heyday was grand complete with cook, maids etc.The house and farm were owned by Grace Nicholas a lovely lady very English down to Johnno her beloved corgi, more of her and the house later it's time to round the cows again, reset the fishing lines and head home for a well earned meal, our last job for the day was emptying the wood stove a large setup with 3 ovens,a huge table in the middle of a blue and white checked tile floor. We lit the stove and that was our lot for the day.We had a lovely roast mutton dinner and chocolate pudding with custard.Nan and I would play scrabble and we would have some toast cooked on a fork in front of the coals yum, then for me it was time for bed where pop would come in and tell me a story,or some of one as usually I would be asleep before he had finished.I hope you like this it's just a few things that happened as a child,I would have been 5 or so then.

                       A DAY ON THE FARM

A young lad(me) and his grandfather arise early morn,a sheet of mist hovers over the paddocks.Pop takes a wash to help open his weary eyes, grandson eagerly awaits his turn. The bathroom had a bath as big as a pool, acopper for hot water and a double trough with a wringer in the middle. We then lit the fire, put the kettle on it,had some cereal while we waited for our cuppa.Off to work now.We proceed to the garage, used to be an old blacksmith shop.We open the rickety wooden door and there's the vanguard complete with blanket on the bonnet, after removing the blanket,Pop sits on the left headlight and lifts a tin bucket full of concrete 10 on each leg, cranks the car and off to milk the cows. First we have to check the fishing lines we had left in the night before. They were just willow with line, hook and worm stuck in the side of the bank.Wow I was so excited an eel and a blackfish. We then went and rounded up the cows and took them to the milking shed.First four in washed the teats and put the cups on.As Daisy was backing out she slipped on a stone,I fell backwards into the wash buket bum first head and feet sticking out. After milking the 16 cows we seperated the milk and cream filled the milk billy's for the four families living on the property. That takes us to about 8am and it's time for a cuppa.

If you want more I'll tell story of beyond the cuppa

Bye for now Tony
