Animal Cruelty "Cruelty to animals refers to treatment or standards of care that cause unwarranted or unnecessary suffering or harm to animals. Standards of both animal cruelty legislation, and enforcement, may vary between different places from non-existent through to comprehensive, and the acts and conditions which are deemed "cruel" also vary. Opinions are divided whether practices such as factory farming, fur farming and animal testing of medical procedures and consumer products pose a major moral issue. Cases in which cruelty to animals is due to a deliberate wish to be cruel (as opposed to neglect), are known as zoosadism, and have been repeatedly linked via research with abuse and cruelty to people (including the more sensationalist examples of torture and killing). In such extreme cases cruelty to animals may also have occurred, as a "rehearsal" or as an aspect of development. However this should be viewed in perspective; not all cruelty is sadism, nor are all persons who are cruel to animals necessarily going to be abusive towards people." Example of Animal Cruelty is dog fighting. Dogfighting is a blood sport in which two dogs are placed in a pit. These fights can carry on from minutes to hours. The fight does not stop until one dog can no longer continue. History from the Coliseum combats of ancient Rome started with dogs fighting against other animals, such as elephants. The "sport" then died out and did not start again until the 17th century in England. These fights typically fought dogs against bears and bulls. Once bears and bulls became too costly and scarce to fight, the sport evolved into fighting dog on dog. This has been a growing epidemic all across the world.
Did you know that puppies bred from champion dogs can sell up to 10,000 dollars or more? The extent that these puppies are bred is malicious. To avoid conflict between the female and the male dog, the female dog may have ALL her teeth removed to stop her from biting the male while he tries to mound her or worse; dog owners often participate by strapping the dog down, sometimes on contraptions or "rape racks" in which the female is immobile and breeding is ensured.
So who gets hurt?
The most common response is the dogs in the pit. Unfortunately, they are not the only victims. The world of dogfighting consequently reflects poorly on the breed as a whole. Nationwide shelters are having enormous issues with the amount of pit bulls that come into their shelters. Out of 600 pit bulls only ONE will find a good home, leaving the other 599 to die. The destruction does not stop there. The reputation of these dogs affects the unconditional, loving family pets and therefore, these pets are inadvertently being judged because of what some ill humans are doing to their breed. DO NOT BLAME THE DOG BUT BLAME THE OWNER!!!!!!!!!!!!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There are still MANY MAANNNNNNNNNNNY other forms of animal cruelty. Why are some people so cruel?? Neglecting pets, killing animals in cruel ways for their furs.... the hearts of men are easily corrupted....greed for money and power!!!!! |
