    Why so serious?

....I’ve found the following quite irritating:

--Rude, aggressively demanding party guests. I understand if you’re unable to tolerate hunger for any period of time, especially after sitting down for so long, weighed down with the copious amounts of theater make-up (even though you’re not on stage, but at a party), about 4 gaudy Channel necklaces and earrings too many, and that traveling back an forth across the ballroom from the hot dog stand to the pizza stand-all of these things can work up quite an appetite, especially if one is also having to yell above the loud music to make any sort of conversation. Oh, yes, and grabbing the arm of any waiter passing by, demanding that anything you need done must get done RIGHT THAT MINUET(never mind if said waiter are forced to abandon the tables and people assigned to be attended to)….such aggressive rudeness can’t go without sustenance for long periods of time. But really, how can I be expected to get your food to your table if you’re (A, piling up more and more plates of trash everywhere-how one manages to litter the floor and tables with almost equal amounts of hot dog crusts and dirty napkins is beyond me (must have something to do with those destructive kids you’re not paying attention to), and (B barging into the kitchen and standing at the doorway of a very very tiny kitchen as 7 waiters try to serve food for 200+ people.

I swear, I’ve never, ever served a party with people that behaved so hideously rude, and who left so filthy a mess. Even the security guards said it was the nastiest they’d ever seen-and there wasn’t even any alcohol, it was a Sweet Sixteen party, for gods sake. One would expect someone dropping as much money as they did on a daughter’s party to have well-mannered guests; similarly, if one is wearing thousands of dollars worth of gowns/jewelry, toting designer bags and decked out in the finest of suits, one would expect those with such wealth would be a little more refined, a little more decent, than to be as rude and messy than they were. And that was too long a rant. Just keep that in mind:  money, fine clothing and jewels-none of these can buy class. Or manners.

--Shoe designers. People with small feet do wear shoes, and not only child styles, either. I’ve gone to two different malls and about 4 stores too many in search of a well-made, fine quality pair of ballet flats. Nothing fancy, just something simple to wear everyday. But whether it was Dillard’s, Macy’s, Aldo, Baker’s Nine West…..NONE of them carry shoes in size 5. I wanted to throw those size 6 ballet flats-the smallest size most stores carry-at the sales person, everytime they came from the back and said ‘Sorry, 6 is the smallest we’ve got.’ Even though I know it’s not their fault, it’s the shoe designers fault. But a girl has gotta vent somewhere.

Anyone know any designers who make shoes for people with fairy feet? Plzkthnx.

--Obamamania. Don’t get me wrong, I like the guy, even if I don’t agree with all of his policies. (Though, in my books, his policy to stop US dependency on foreign oil=WIN.) But truly, people are making far too big a deal over him. That tour through Europe is probably not doing much good for his ego, meaning that’s its getting inflated by the ‘rock star’ reception he’s received in every country. And he’s on the front cover of People, a look into his life ‘behind the scenes’, or something like that. What next, US Weekly cover story on him and some touching/scandalous story, and paparazzi popping out on him as he leaves a restaurant? The people and his publicist are doing a fine job of creating a celebrity out of him. Celebrities have the tendency to believe the world revolves around them and lose touch with reality. And do you honestly want a man in the Oval Office who could have that kind of mentality?

And who thinks that, if he’s not elected, that the rest of the world will point at America and say ‘RACISTS!’ Not my words…their Carlos Mencia’s. And you have to admit, he has an excellent point.

--Overquoting. It’s not something that has annoyed me quite as much, particularly as I am guilty of doing the same thing myself. But come one. ‘Why so serious?’ can only be said so many times. Along with all the other clever, profoundly evil words out of that villain’s mouth.

There is something that confuses me about that, though: why quote him so much? Why not more of Wayne’s and Alfred’s lines? The Joker is a soulless, empty psychotic. (Although admittedly brilliant in his planning, for all that he claims to have no plans.) But why all the raging popularity? I have this vague notion that it has something to do with how the Joker is a reflection of the darkest depths of humanity, darkness that people do everything possible to conceal or constrain. The Joker lived with no such constraints; he was, in a way, in possession of more freedom than anyone, for he lived with no limits ( in his mind, that is….). Maybe that’s what people find so fascinating. Probably. Most likely.  I would like to write a review on the movie, but have only seen it once and don’t feel up to the task of discussing such an amazing story at length without knowing it very well.

But it’s still annoying to hear so many people quoting and attempting to imitate that laugh of his. Leave it to the Joker to be the Joker, please.

And am I the only person who found his disappearing pencil trick obscenely amusing? I think my laughter echoed in the theater. Maybe I didn’t hear other people laughing, or I just have a really sick sense of humor.

You'd be in huge trouble if a shoe-designing obamaniac who wouldn't stop quoting Barack Obama came to your party and started demanding hotdogs and pizza.

The ex-boyfriend and I watched Dark Night a day after it came out and we both loved it. You're not the only one who found The Joker's disappearing pencil trick 'obscenely amusing.' I know that for sure because my ex laughed heartily when he saw that. I guess The Joker is just such an outlandish (and striking) character. I'm guilty of quoting that particular phrase, but in my defense I did it not long after the movie came out so it was still fresh then. To those who have just seen it and are quoting it just now...well, they have the shorter end of the stick because now everyone's getting tired of hearing it.

    @AvenueToTheReal - Muahahahaha

My dad and bro are big Obamamaniacs... though they are very polite at parties . Obama seems like a pretty grounded guy, so hopefully all the hype is not getting to him as much as it would seem. His wife seems like the type to give him a good smackdown if his head got too big.

Ugh, I'm so sorry you had to put up with such awfully-mannered people at the party.

About the lack of small shoe sizes, I can definitely relate to you.  Shoes aren't my problem, but I have found that pants and eyeglasses hardly ever come in sizes small enough for me, meaning I often have to shop in the children's section even for something as basic as a pair of blue jeans.  So I know how frustrating it is to look for small sizes that most designers seem to ignore.

    RYC: Thank you!

Nordstrom. They carry shoes down to a size 4 for women.

I'm sorry,  I can't stop laughing at the first comment.

A lot, not all, but a lot of people hide their "ugliness" with materialistic things as part of the illusion. Their true nature shows in the end, just like at the party!  As for clothing / shoe sizes, I find that for men, the higher end brands to have more sizes and tend to fit better. (Not to be confused with my first statement :P )  But it's true.

As for over quoting, people do that for every movie or song that's popular. Fcukin' sheep! I find it irritating as 'eff.  You're definitely not alone with the Joker trick.  I laughed out loud in the theater. My friend, she even looked at me a little funny. To be honest, I loved Heath's version of the Joker. It was perfect!  You are 100% right regarding what he stood for.  He IS the evil and chaos in humanity, so everyone somehow relates.

I like the Joker's make up.
If I were one of those people you talked about, I'd totally dress up in Joker makeup every day.
