| | Disenfranchised doesn't even begin to cover it. The malaise is too deep, the problems bedrock fundamentals. The word itself is flawed in this usage. It makes the assumption that there is indeed something worthy of participating in. Contemporary culture is non-existent. Modern society is criminal by all definitions and interpretations of the word. The world we see, the music we hear, the lives we're nudged into leading are choreographed and focus grouped into the ground. All "legitimate," above ground art is a stylized parody of and an affront to anything even remotely artistic. Government, media, all but the most intimate relationships nothing more than slipshod theater, concealing the back room bargains, hidden motives, and basic resentment that run rampant in all three arenas, those mechanisms truly governing our day-to-day operations.
There's hardly even a machine worth raging against. The only remedy is total destruction and a fundamental rebuilding. Kill the body and the head will die. Raze the trees to save the forest. But why bother? Destruction. Withdrawal. Both serve the same ends. One requires work, planning, violence, and, most sickeningly, continued existence on terms set by that whose destruction is sought. "The criminal fight against culture is only the reverse side of a criminal culture." It's a lovely quote ... for awhile. Until wanton destruction for the sake of destruction loses its appeal and the grim reality sets in. Revolution for the hell of it may be fun, but assigning it any legitimacy beyond fun is delusional self-deceptive. Let the system corrupt itself from the inside out. Devote your time to more productive and self-realizing goals. Develop yourself. Rise above that which ills you, don't squander a lifetime fighting it. Live on your terms. Become what you desire. If any criminal remnant of society or culture happen to cross your path and interfere, punish that transgression severely. Take what you need from it and adapt it to your own uses. Control that which you can't. Take ownership of what you don't own. Pick and choose those elements that suit you and burn the rest. A paradoxically active destruction by way of indifference opposing the ineffectual and unfocused nature of rebellion outright. Rebellion by the whole does nothing for the individual. A single, effective, personal transcendence is worth more than the collective revolution of an entire race.
Recognize beauty. Enjoy it. Share it. Art is the beauty of emotion, unfettered and raw. Create it. Style is the means by which an individual navigates through life. Develop it. "Politics is the art of controlling your environment." Master it in this sense and this sense alone. Discard it otherwise. Destiny is the sum of all decisions made in a lifetime. Own yours. |
