spending hours upon hours of excruciating effort to build a stack, to avoid suckouts, to get the occasional suckout, dancing with 3-bets, 4-bets, recreating stories to piece together hands in post flop play, making semi-bluffs, bluffs, thin-value bets, trapping, dodge dip duck dive dodge, and then flushing it all down the toilet when you decide to be a hero and make a stupid ass call.

| my mom has done many things for me over the years :
- birthing me - customizing my dinner so its palatable to me even though it's a huge pain - trying to buy me clothes so i don't look like "a homeless" - trying to get me to exercise and eat healthy foods - being my friend when i had none - trying to make sure i don't become a gambling degenerate - buying me groceries even though i'm 24 - praying for me every day
thanks, mom.

| so a bit of clarification...i guess from now on i'll publish posts that i've had on here and then archive the ones i deem worthy of archiving on the new blog. i suppose xanga still has the most traffic, which makes it easier to share.
anywho, on to the main course. the follow up to the best comedy of 2004 does not disappoint, other than the fact that it was a long time coming (4 years is a long time for a sequel of a movie that probably costs < $20m to make).
here was my review 4 years ago:
"anyway, i watched harold and kumar yesterday with bobby and jesse, and let me tell you it was great for many reasons.
first the similarities between me and bobby and the main characters
made the movie probably a bit more just for us than most. since i
complain about staying out too late because of my parents, my friends
ragged on me for being as uptight as harold, who is an investment
banker, not far from where i'm probably going to end up. bobby, an
indian, is somewhat more nonchalant about things like kumar, a genius
who doesn't want to go to medical school. though the characters are a
bit more extreme than our respective characters, this was what made us
able to relate to them. ie whenever there was a critical scene, like
harold acting like a complete newb with maria, or kumar's dad giving
kumar a speech, we could only sit back and feel the injustice given on
the respective heroes.
i mean come on, how much more similar was it when harold was like, i
raise you 500 fries on those 20 burgers. they even put a POKER
reference in there for crying out loud. i even drive a toyota camry to
work...same color. so off the bat, the movie 'really hit the spot' with me and
bobby.
the movie moves at a relatively fast pace and doesn't leave any time
for boredom. some scenes were a bit too unbelievable and stupid, ie
they ride a cheetah in one scene, but there would always be more scenes
later on that made up for those small but excuseable moments. there
were so many points where you just had to think, man that is such JUSTICE, when the main
characters vanquished their antagonists. while the premise, characters
high needing to go to white castle to satisfying a crave for food, is a
bit simple, the screenwriters make it smart and hilarious.
while disguised as a brain dead stoner comedy, the movie's
protagonists are actually very sharp and the humor is cleverly
retarded, instead of retardedly retarded. when i saw the preview, i
had to admit it looked like it was going to be the stupidest film, but
afterwards, i was filled with a wow, that was a fantastic movie
feeling. the movie presents the view of everyday asian people living
in america, which isn't very prevelant in today's culture. it makes
fun of asians, makes fun of blacks, makes fun of whites, and makes fun
of whites making fun of asians. a line i loved was when kumar goes,
"thank you come again!"
and come on, how could you NOT like a film where the asian guy gets
the hot white girl at the end.
but yea, can't wait for the sequel if they make one...they definitely leave it open for it...heh
if you're asian american, i would HIGHLY recommend this film...i'd
say it's the first film since the matrix that made me think, wow
justice."
4 years removed, i've finished working a bit in the consulting/corporate world and the scout's finished med school, but our heroes in the movie remain the same age. the movie, while not quite as good as the first, still delivers imo. a refreshing break from the judd apatow type flavor of comedy, h&k pulls all the stops and isn't afraid to make social commentary again, a main reason why i like the first one.
as a critic, i must say that there are several downsides to what's still an awesome movie. some of the themes are repetitive (the white authority figure being oppressive towards minorities, the "white male heroes" of movies are actually huge douchebags, everyone's still pretty racist), but the execution is still fresh and memorable. also h&k is a bit excessively raunchy, of the unnecessarily gratituitous type. (why is there a growing trend of seeing people's johnsons in movies?)
however the writers still intelligently intertwine (is that a word?) humor with message to the audiences. there's snappy dialogue as well as catchy one-liners...my favorite was when kumar immediately dimisses a terrorists idea that americans are too busy eating donuts to care about what's going on in the world: "Fuck you, donuts are awesome!" the movie like the first is fast paced enough to not bore in case some of the jokes don't deliver.
all in all, i'll probably watch this again (maybe not in theaters, but on dvd or whatnot) and it definitely delivers for h&k fans. i hear that the writers have already written ideas for another sequel so lets cross our fingers that they'll be back for more...though penn is 31 and cho is 35, wowza! on another note, i don't know if i'm going to like cho in a star trek role, seeing how penn in season six of 24 seemed so out of place.
i've also finished watching an anime series called death note...i'll try to review that soon enough.

| questions to my readers:
would you read my blog if it weren't on xanga? if not, is it because
you get updates from your own xanga? or do you regularly check xanga
randomly?
in any case, i've made a new blog, which i like because it conveniently
categorizes blog entries and the like and has a cleaner look...you can
visit it at
