  • entry that isn't really an entry because of "maintenance" issues

i think i'm almost ready to make the jump to a site of my own. i've been trundling about in xanga too long... not that anybody ever notices, since i rarely post to public these days. i figure that if i actually pay for hosting, that'd change, out of obligation if nothing else (ha, like that actually happened the last time i spent a few months on building my own page). anyhow... oh, some of the (already sparse public posts) will disappear for a while, if not for good. don't worry, i'll come back to visit sometimes...

  • random flashback aka avoiding making a real post because i have midterms - wow, my title is longer than my post now. maybe i'll just type future posts here and have the post be filler.

    in my ap stat class:
student: wow...so wouldn't that mean like...your quizzies are really really really hard?
teacher: no, not really. most people find my quizzies easy, it's my testies that are hard.

  • rapid patience loss

a quick google with the terms [movie "cell phone" "turn off" blog] turns up 27,800 entries. this will be 27,801 (and yes, i realize that a large majority of those sites are probably irrelevant.); if you don't like it -- actually, i don't care if you don't like it.

so i was at bay street with olga today; we went to see sideways after an early lunch (now i fully remember why the menu at pasta pomodoro seemed so familiar...probably will never go there again). movie wasn't that bad except for the fact that i could swear that the guy who plays miles also plays the hive-prone shoe-fetishizing wakowski in there's something about mary;... and the entire "wine as a metaphor" was done too ham-handedly...and the naked-fat-people sex (fat people need lovin' too; i'd just rather not be around to witness it)....and...ok, so there were a number of issues i had with the movie. but this isn't a movie review.

about 15 minutes into the movie, i heard someone talking into her cellphone. very clearly. this was not a "er doc on call wanting to enjoy a little r&r at the cineplex. this was a teenage girl, probably a high school sopohomore or junior, describing in detail what was occuring on the screen. after a few minutes of narration, she falls silent. good, i thought, she finally hung up.

no, this was not to be.

shortly thereafter, her phone must have rang again, because her voice was again audible. from then on to practically the end of the movie, her voice could be heard intermittently. i do not suffer fools well. verily i was sorely tempted to punch the offender in the face, girl or not. olga managed to dissuade me from this, for better or worse.

here's my main point. when i spend $8 on a movie ticket (ok, olga paid for the tickets and i paid for lunch), i should be able to enjoy a movie in my desired mannner: silence, perhaps punctuated by gasps and laughter. well, you say, the other moviegoer *also* paid $8; perhaps she enjoys calling people while watching movies. what if there was a patron who enjoyed wathcing movies in the nude? i will concede that this is possible; however i *do* believe that my manner should supercede the caller: my watching a movie in relative silence does not disturb anyone. her talking definitely disturbs someone. as for the naked person, well, think of the children...won't somebody think of the children?

  • a biblical mess

what is it about me exactly that attracts "bible study people"? not the students advertising their meetings, no. you know who im talking about: those mild-mannered, clean-cut, decently-dresssed folk who ask you if you're a student here, or which church you attend. each day that i've been out and about during the past week, i've run into one of them.

is there something about me that screams, "christian from out of the region/pliant heathen who can be converted"? why are they drawn to me, what makes them "accost" (in quotes, too strong a word) me? is there anyway i can harness this power for nefarious purposes? because frankly, i think they should really work on those who clearly identify themselves as christian first; some of them could really use it. question:how many adults that identify themselves as "christian" do you think read the entire bible, or at least the old testament within the past year? five years? ten years?
