The Oldest Piece Of Clothing In The Closet

The oldest piece of clothing in my closet is a brown leather mini-skirt that comes up to about .... Well let's just say it is very, v-e-r-y short. It hasn't fit me for about 15 years, and despite the fact that I recently cleaned out almost all of my old clothing, I still have that one piece. I guess I keep it around for the memories, because I surely will never wear it again. And maybe I keep it because it was so expensive. I paid over $200 for that skirt in the early 80s. It's still in excellent condition, so I really hate to just give it away. Maybe I should sell it on ebay (ha ha).

The newest piece of clothing in my closet is a Winter-Pink Sport Jacket that goes well with either a skirt or a pair of pants - both navy and black make a stunning combination with the jacket. The jacket is a good, classic cut that just doesn't go out of style.

The least fashionable thing in my wardrobe are some of my casual shoes. I am thinking of my Merrell Powder Mocs. I really love those shoes. After spending a very long career in 3 1/2 inch heels, slipping into those mocs is the next best thing to heaven. They may not be very pretty, but they must surely be the most comfortable shoes I've every worn. I don't think I could spend as much time on my feet as I do were it not for my Merrell mocs.

The newest piece of clothing in my closet is a gray zip up hooded sweater with some argyle in a stripe on the front. I love it. The oldest thing in my closet is a skirt I had when I was sixteen. When I'm down 10 lbs (I love to go up and down, up and down) I can still wear it. It's a school girl type, pleated blue and green plaid. I love that skirt.

oh, and Mary Janes. I collect Mary Jane shoes. I have 5 pairs, all purchased at thrift stores.

The oldest pair of clothing in my cupboard is a pair of size 28 jeans from my skinny days.  I will never getrid of them ever.  My newest is a pair pair of three quarter pants.

Hello from a fellow Islander.  I love this entry.  I have a skirt much like that one in my closet.  I think that I keep it for the memories also.  I sure don't think that I will ever get into it again.  LOL  Boy would that shock some people.  Hope you have a great day.

I still have my Iowa jersey from college and a tshirt from high school. Definitely for sentiment, as I never wear them.

I've believed for years that high heels (in particular SPIKED heels) are doing tremendous damage to women's bodies. If I were a more reactionary person, I'd insist they be outlawed everywhere but in the home! Yeah, yeah . . . I acknowledge the aesthetic impact they have. But it's just not worth it to wear them for extended periods of time.

Dear Susan,

Leather shorty miniskirts and 3-1/2" spiked heels? Hmmm. I wish I'd asked for photos "modeling" the clothing. I'm always amazed at some of the clothing I've kept (and I'm a guy) from long ago. I disposed of my bellbottoms, and  my "disco" clothing from the 70s  in the late 80s after realizing I'd never want to be seen dead in most of those pieces.

Thank you for participating.

I don't hold onto a lot of old clothing, though I did have some odd finds when going through my closets last fall in search of unneeded items to give to the hurricane evacuees.

Without a point of reference as to who you are, the image of an Eagle saying the first paragraph was surreal to say the least. There's an image!

Hi, just visiting a fellow Islander.  I am going to post on this topic as well, but I need to dig up a few things for photos if I can find them.  I know exactly what you mean about the heels; at this point I can barely stand to be in anything but good-quality tennis shoes.
