The Blogosphere, Your "home away from home"

22.03. The Blogoshpere (Your "home away from home")

The InternetIsland wants to know about why I starting blogging. Specifically whether or not I had a plan, what I thought when I first signed up with Xanga. Did I go exploring? What prompted my first comment. So here it is.

When I first signed up for xanga about a year ago, it was my first entry into the world of blogging. I hadn't gotten involved until then for a couple of reasons. First because I've never been able to keep a diary for very long before, and second because with all the pages on the Internet, I just didn't feel that it would be worth my time to set forth the daily thoughts and the random events in a life so uneventful as mine, especially for the whole world to see. I mean, like who cares anyway?

Then I saw an article that said a new blog was being created every second of every day, so I thought what the heck; I have the time, and I'm something of a nerd anyway, and besides, anything that so many people are involved with does need some investigation on my part. What is this thing called BLOGGING, and why do people do it?

How better to find out than to visit some of the sites that host Blogs and browse the content and by doing a little blogging of my own. I was uncertain where all this would lead, but then the roads down which I have traveled through most of my life have always been filled with unknowns. I thought I could be here today and gone tomorrow, or I might I would find that I enjoyed the experience enough to make a daily post. At the very least I would learn a little about blogging and the people who do it.

That was a year ago, and I am still with it.

Dear Susan,

You write: "with all the pages on the Internet, I just didn't feel that it would be worth my time to set forth the daily thoughts and the random events in a life so uneventful as mine". I've seen the opposite, and I'm sure you have too by now, and you are part of the revolution, All lives have stories, and through programs like blogs and "communities" like Xanga, more and more stories are being told, and some of them are fantastic and universal. Besides your biographical entries, your opinions and commentary are very valuable and your blog is not only a repository for thoughts and daily recountings, but you touch on philosophy, religion, politics, and the cultural makeup of modern life, and though you make no excuses for your own leanings on any subject, you always seem to be open to interpretation, with a tolerance and attempt to understand the opposite even when you don't agree that makes you one of the special bloggers whose domain supercedes mere "point of view." I always seem to see a lively discussion whenever you're around, on your own blogs, the Socrates Cafe, or on other blogs.

I'm glad I met you here in the blogosphere, and thank you so much for participating, I think the responses to this topic so far are some of my favorites of all the questions I've asked over the past year.

There are lots of blogging sites out there.  What made you choose Xanga?  Or do you have other blogs as well?

Glad you stayed with it!

suzyQ_darnit: I do not have other blogs. And while there are other blog sites available, casual browsing of them showed me that more intelligent life existing on xanga than what I found elsewhere. That may not be a 100% accurate assessment, but it is what I found at the time. Since then, I haven't done much looking around. I figure one blog site is enough.

It is fun once you get started isn't it? I used to keep paper diaries before this and they are also fun to go back and look through.
