| | Songs Of My LifeFeatured_Grownups has asked me to tell about songs that have meaning for me, my life, etc. - and why! There are really so many good songs that I love that it's hard to just pick one or two and leave the rest on the table, but if I must, I must.
The first song that came to my mind when I read the topic is called The Holy City. I first heard the song while on a tour of Israel. It was written in 1896 for an opera quality tenor voice and has an air of majesty about it, causing me to fall in love with it. It also happens to be the very first song I even sang in public. That makes it extra special for me. It also proves beyond any shadow of doubt that I am completely mad, or I never would have selected something so difficult for a first sing.
Another song I am really fond of is My Redeemer Lives. This is the first song I ever sang with taped music. All of my preceding sings were done with a live accompanyist on either an organ or a piano.
I Will Follow, I Cannot Tell, and Oh Rend The Skies are three more favorites because of the challenge they present to use a multitude of ranges within the songs. They are nice prayers and each has a hint of majesty about them.
Ok. My secret is out. I like majestic songs. They demand a talent, a range, and a power in the voice that goes beyond the mere common place. They entice me. They excite me. They challenge me.
