Hillary The Thief

Once again we see Hillary Clinton flipping on an issue, this time on whether or not certain primary votes in Michigan and Flordia should count in the Democratic Party's nomination of a general candidate for the Presidency.

Briefly, here's what has happened. The party decided to allow some early primaries. That got out of hand when everyone wanted their primary to be early leaving no time to campaign anywhere, so the party tried to rein in some of the states. The parties in Michigan and Flordia refused to back off, so the national party decided to punish them by eliminating their delegates from the national convention. All the major Democratic candidates pledged not to campaign there before their primaries, and all but Clinton pulled their names from the Ballot. The effect is that 350 delegates that these states control cannot be seated in the general convention, and their votes cannot count toward the majority a candidate would need to win the party's national nomination.

Everyone was cool with that in the beginning when they all thought that Clinton was a sure thing. Now along comes Hillary Clinton who suddenly finds herself in a fight with Obama and is realizing that maybe it wasn't such a good idea to so casually cast aside those 350 delegates. Now she wants them back, four days before the Flordia primary, because she feels that she will take all of those votes at the national convertion, since everyone else withdrew their names.

  • If she gets her way on this, she will, in effect, steal 350 delegates, because the voters in those states never had an opportunity to vote for anyone else.

  • If she doesn't get her way on this, she can make political hay out of the idea that she, and she alone, is standing there defending the rights of the poor voters of these oppressed states.

Naturally, the other candidates are crying foul, as any of us would, because it seems that once again the Billary Machine will say or do anything to win an election.

She won't get away with it.  Her time is past.  Barack is the future.

^^ I hope you're right, twoberry. I can't stand the thought of the Clintons in the whitehouse.

Well, not that I encourage political shenanigans with any group.

But, as I Republican, I have to ask myself "Why should I give a rat's @$$?"

@SwordAndSacrifice: - You should care because those 350 delegates could throw the nomination to Billary in a close race, and if that happens, then there is a chance she could win the general election. It would be better if she does not get those delegates.

^ Well, I think that's where we differ.

As a Republican, I want a Clinton candidacy. Between Obama and herself, she is clearly the most vulnerable in a general election. Her experience and roles in her husband's administration completely offset any appeal to liberal women who may vote for her based upon gender.

Obama, on the other hand, is a different breed of cat. He's unknown, which people who are crying for change will be willing to tolerate. He's black, which will appeal to ungrounded minorities (which is to say almost all of them, except Asians). He's more articulate and intelligent than Hillary.

All around, the guy's bad news for Republicans. Especially in a year when we have a group of Keystone Kops running for our nomination.

@SwordAndSacrifice: - You are certainly right about the Keystone Cops, and you may be right about Obama being the more difficult candidate to beat. I'm not certain of that, however. He may be more beatable than you think. I am certain that I do not want to risk a Clinton Presidency in any way. She must not be allowed anywhere near the Whitehouse.
