| | Taking Things LiterallyReuters is reporting from Belgrade that a Serb farmer was upset by a court order to give half of his farm equipment to his ex-wife. He said that he was prepared to give his ex-wife an equal share of everything they had earned during their 45-year marriage, but was furious at being told that he also had to give half of his farm equipment to her - so furious that he "bought a grinder and cut in two all his tools, including large items such as cattle scales, a harrow, and a sowing machine." All his ex has to do now is decide which half she wants.
Now there's an interesting solution to a problem. And if revenge in the form of making it impossible for him to run the farm was his wife's motive, I'd say she got only half of her revenge, because she doesn't have the equipment to sell out from under him.
And somehow I don't think the judge will be amused. What do you think. Could a judge rule that the letter of the order was fulfilled and drop the matter, or might the farmer have more trouble now? Might he lose his land? Could the court require him to purchase some equipment for his wife as compensation? Might he have to compensate her with money? What other options are there? And how might the fact that he is already 76 years old affect the outcome?
