| I try real hard, to see the best in people. But then every now
and then I will be surfing throw channels, and catch a glimpse of
professional wresting, or some rich guy spending a 100,000 dollars on a
car he doesn’t need, and I wonder where exactly it is that we went
wrong. I then lay in bed and think about the rest of the
world. The other 98% of the world that doesn’t live in the US,
and half of them are dieing of starvation. If there was really
just a small fraction of this good I pretend to see in people, wouldn’t
we do SOMETHING. The world is in a terrible shape, and we are too
busy with our iPods to care that our fellow humans are starving to
death. Now if you accept that a large percentage of the world
suffers from extreme poverty, and virtually all of us, the U.S., is
doing nothing about it, then you must accept either one of these.
1.If we could actually see this suffering, we would help. Its all
so far away, and we are so desensitized by the media that nothing shown
on photographs or film can no longer truly move us. (this is the
optimist, or maybe apathist, point of view)
2. The only person any of us really look out for is number one,
ourselves. I made this realization last night, and I must admit
it shook me pretty good. We may help others around us
occasionally, but that is just so we will feel good about
ourselves. After all, are only goal is to feel good, whether it
be presently or in the future. But the realization that shook me
even more, was that I was going to get up this morning, and do nothing
about it. Even though I knew what a tragedy this world is, and
how freakin’ AMAZING I have it, I was going to still wake up that
morning and go back to worrying about college, girls, money and other
meaningless things, while thousands of people die of hunger.
Lately my english teacher has been trying to force into our heads that
men are inherently evil. I think evil is just a word, a rather
pretentious word at that, with nothing really behind it. What men
really are, is inherently selfish. . You can keep trying to see
the good in people, but as long as there are hummers, or even little
white geo's, in peoples drive way, we do not care about our fellow
man. And what’s more, is we somehow come off thinking that we
deserve these things, that somehow we are entitled to the house our
parents bought. The only reason that ANY of us have ANYTHING is
because we were lucky enough to be born in the richest country in the
world. You do not deserve this computer any more than a five year old
in Africa deserved to die of aids.
Now you can believe in the first one, but most likely you will just hit
that little back button on your thousand dollar computer and go check
if any one has posted a new bulletin on myspace. Until you stop caring
so much about stupid, stupid things and actually try and make a
difference in this world of poverty and unbalance of wealth, then you
have proven me right. I currently can not move myself to do this,
which is why I must believe the second one.
my God, what a world you love.

| This is in my town.

Seems like someone in the church administration would realize this might be a bad idea? I mean, A-Even if you just take the bad joke at face value, its still terrible theology. and B-I thought churches would try and distance themselves from the whole medival catholic church thing? eh, what do I know.
