we just watched michael moore's Sicko. anyone of you seen it? basically, it's about the weirdness (maybe it's too weak a word judging from what the film shows) of American health care system. but it also refers to other systems in the world which the narrator seems to really like, like Canada and UK and France. i was wondering, umm, have you guys ever been maltreated (or even denied treatment or smth) within the American medical system because of some health insurance issues? i am just looking for real situations outside film.. even if it's a documentary. and what do you generally think about the system?

it's a good day, it's thursday. and we're starting to relax. i need to go now and cook that meat for us or it's getting outdated.

I myself haven't had any problems with the health system... but my wife, while she was pregnant, had been on Medi-Cal and was sent to a really lousy OB. I mean, it was our choice to switch, but it was kind of a hassle to do so. Anyway, his office wasn't all that great but it was even worse that he wasn't that pleasant. Like he was just used to doing what he wanted and pulling the baby out into this world on his terms. In an emergency that would be unavoidable, but her pregnancy was just drawn out. We really didn't like him, but that just might have been that particular doctor.

Another thing:
One of my co-workers is 60 and has bad knees. He can go on disability for a year with coverage on our companies' insurance plan, but after that he'll be cut off. He can't yet retire and can't receive medical until he's 62 (I think?) and can't even receive it during the time between because of the gross income he and his wife make. They would have to pay up to 2000 a month to cover him while he waits to get on Medi-Cal. He served during Vietnam, and believes that he may be able to receive some funds from them, but other than that, he won't be able to receive health care coverage because he's not at the appointed age.

I've never seen the movie, but will soon. I think Medi-cal is pretty okay, but with situations like this and my wife's experience with the bad OB, makes me wonder if everything is working the way it's supposed to be.

I have a lot of stories, but no time to tell them at the moment. The system is a mess, a big, fat, dreadful mess.

we have wanted to see it but it still hasnt happened yet.
i think there are definite flaws with our system. i have stories but im nursing lijah so im typing one handed and it would take a long long time to do. overall i think our system sucks and needs to be reorganized. however, most americans, including mr moore, seem to glamorize the other systems and think theyre perfect when theyre not. in canada it can take months to get a needed catscan but here, if you have insurance, you can get it within a few days. people are unhappy so other ways look better but from the bits ive read, none of them are ideal. but i really havent done too much research.
what kind of system do you guys have?
