| Good News... Our cats are getting along. They play together. How cute.
Other News... Glenn Beck has a pretty good article here mostly about how Che Guevara was not only a terrorist, but a lousy one. He killed lots of people, lost the wars he started, and now his image is found on popular T-shirts. Quote from that article: "The communist revolutionary who dedicated his life to fight capitalism
has now become nothing more than a piece of merchandise. Lesson
learned: In the end, capitalism always wins."

| Congress is Less Popular than King George III The current approval rating for Congress is 9%. To put this in context, King George III of the U.K. circa 1775 had an approval rating here in the colonies of around 15%. (Pat Gray link)
Come election day, VOTE. Don't be lazy, don't whine about the inconvenience. If you don't like the way things are, leave the torch and pitchfork at home and remember to vote. In the interim, you could always call your Senator or Representative.

| And now, something cute...
This is our new kitten, Roxie.

I think our other cat is angry with us. Oh well.

| Energy CrisisHang on to your cans of corn: Recent flooding has destroyed a significant percentage of our corn fields. Which probably won't affect anything right away, but a year from now... things are going to get worse before they get better. Corn ethanol as a fuel is over. Unless the government bails out the ethanol industry, which it will, which will mean we the taxpayers will bail out the ethanol industry. Never mind that switch grass ethanol is a better fuel than corn ethanol, never mind that it's cheaper and doesn't drive food prices up.
My energy policy: Encourage the free market, (with tax breaks), to develop every form of clean / renewable energy where practical, and drill our own oil so we aren't slaves to oil-producing countries run by mad-men and dictators. Oh, and build and/or replace our aging oil refineries.
Reducing dependence on foreign oil: Drill here, drill now. Duh. A petition is available to put pressure on Congress to allow drilling for oil on our own land and off our own shores. You can sign electronically or download a copy of it to collect signatures. You can also contact your representatives in Congress. A Fox News opinion piece here about recent offshore drilling proposals and one here from Bloomberg. I like the following excerpt from the Fox News piece: "With his willingness to respond to the gas price
crisis with bold measures, McCain shows himself to be a pragmatist
while Obama comes off as an ideologue to [sic] puts climate change ahead of
making it possible for the average American to get to work." And by the way, Al Gore's house uses more energy now, after its "green renovation," than it did before.
Firefox 3.0 and some other thing: Read this post by my friend, Dave, for news on some cool new software.

| The Calvin Perspective: I think Calvin's attitude in this comic sums up a big part of what's wrong with this world...
It's easier to be the victim than to take responsibility for you own choices.
Say NO to Cap and Trade: Call your congressman. I'm sure you've all heard about this thing called Cap and Trade. Basically it means this: An industry, like say oil refinement, will be given, by the government, a cap, (limit), on how much carbon they can emit. Above that limit, and they have to buy carbon credits from someone else. If they are below that cap, they can sell, or trade, the remainder to someone who is over their limit. Cap and Trade does nothing to reduce carbon emissions (for those of you who care about that). Basically, this is nothing more than a system that will make money for congress in the form of taxes, and cost us, the consumers. Estimates are that gasoline will cost an additional $1.50 per gallon under Cap and Trade. That's in addition to the current cost. So if gas is $4/gallon now, it will be $5.50/gallon under Cap and Trade.
Meanwhile, in totally unrelated news: China and India are drilling for oil about 50 miles off our own coasts. Congress has an approval rating of about 13%. This last month saw the lowest casualty rate in Iraq in a long time. Stuff you don't hear on the evening news.
