Simul Justus Et Peccator

(Latin simul, “simultaneous” + Latin justus, “righteous” + Latin et, “and” + Latinpeccator, “sinner”)  At the same time righteous and a sinner. The phrase was coined by 16th century German Reformer, Martin Luther. In his Lectures on Romans, Luther put it this way, “The saints in being righteous are at the same time sinners; they are righteous because they believe in Christ whose righteousness covers them and is imputed to them, but they are sinners because they do not fulfill the Law and are not without sinful desires. They are like sick people in the care of a physician: they are really sick, but healthy only in hope and in so far as they begin to get better, or, rather: are being healed.”

Mitzi's niece hangs out with Will Ferrell?

Way to go, Elizabeth!  Congratulations!  Mitzi's big sister has a granddaughter that's landed a spot in a major movie, with Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly.  Her name is Elizabeth Yozamp and the movie is called "Step Brothers."  It will be out July 25th.  11-year-old Lizzie plays Reilly's daughter Tiffany, who (according to our source) has a piered belly-button and a fiery mouth - now, if the movie's rated R, does that mean she can't get into the theater to see it?  What a crazy world <grin>.  Anyway, John and Jennifer, if you're reading this, give Lizzie our best wishes from the Heartland  - show-biz is a tough racket, and we're proud of all the work and sacrifice it took to break in.
Blessings, Phil

On it goes

Thursday night, the leadership at Stonebridge took a time-out to compare notes and firm-up our approach in the aftermath of Flood '08.  We recognized that as of last count, at least 22 families from our own church are directly impacted - that number increases almost exponentially as we reach beyond our walls to family, friends, neighbors and coworkers.  The need is huge.  We're glad to be partnering with 36 other churches through the Serve the City team.  In addition, as individuals we'll have opportunities that would otherwise "slip through the cracks." All said, as Cedar Rapids makes the transition from crisis to recovery, it's going to take all of us...and it's going to take a long time.  Let's keep up the good fight.
Blessings, Phil
