Easter and the "fam"

It was wonderful to have Emily home for Easter and we took the opportunity to have a family photo made after church.  In June, we'll take a trip to the beach with all the kids for a week!  We are so excited.

TeenPact is having a record year...thanks to a lot of hard work by our staff, state coordinators, and and volunteers.  We are so grateful.

I just completed a letter that outlines the 10 facets of conservatism.  We have mailed it to our full mailing list, but it you did not get it, please let me know and I will email you a copy of it.  Send me a note at tim@teenpact.com

half way there

I write from Virginia Beach this morning as I pull all of our staff off the road for some much needed rest and relaxation.  We have a huge beach house that we have rented, and everyone will pile in here this afternoon.  These traveling interns and our office and field staff work so hard during our season.  But, without them, it just would not be TeenPact.

We are excited about all God is doing this season in changing lives of students, encouraging parents, and even inspiring on-looking adults who interact with our students at the capitol.

On the family front, things are going great and I feel so blessed to be the father of these seven children.  Pictured below are Emily and Mary.

Off and Running

This week as we launch our first TeenPact classes in Arizona, Arkansas and Maryland we mark our 15th year of TeenPact.  Besides seeing 15,000 students come through the program, we have been blessed to work so close with staff, interns, and office personnel who have put their heart and soul into the work.

This is a year of growth for us.  We have hired two field reps, and we are looking for two more alumni to serve the western and mid-western regions.  By summer, we hope to have an alumni relations coordinator who will not only promote our alumni events, but will help us begin to keep up with all the great things are alumni are doing out there.

I would like to see us take 200 to the Washington Briefing and our Back to DC program in September as well.  It will be an exciting time as the election of President comes to a head.

Probably most exciting for me is our new alumni track "God is the Issue."  All of our returning alumni are reading Brad Bright's book by the same title, and we are for the first time talking to people around the capitol about how they view God and the value of seeing HIM for who HE is.  Please pray for our students having these conversations.

Qualities of a Christian friend

I have been in Henry Blackaby's "Experiencing God" for college students as I have been teaching that age at our church.  Today we looked at qualities of a Christian friend.

1. Faithful
2. Honest
3. Good counselor
4. Demonstrates spiritual fruit
5. Wise
6. Loving
7. Slow to anger
8. Has integrity
9. Humble

Read John 13 and think about how you are doing with these qualities. God is still working on me in many of these areas.

Week in New Orleans

As some of you may know, I am working on my PhD in Mass Communication.  As part of a course I am taking, I traveled to New Orleans on a study and reporting trip to survey the damage from the flooding.  Even after two years the city is devastated.

If your church has not gone on a mission trip to help rebuild, I would highly recommend it.  Habitat for Humanity has some great projects going on there.  Also, the Southern Baptists have a seminary you might work with in some capacity.

The trip was sobering and reminded me of how good the rest of us have it.  There is certainly a lot to be thankful for.  The below photo was from one of the meetings.  My professor is on my right, and a classmate on my left.
