The furniture men were supposed to be here between 12 noon and 4PM. At 8:00 AM this morning they called and said that they loaded the truck backwards and so they would be right over. (because they had to unload our stuff first) We told them we thought we had until at least noon to get the old bed out of the room but they said it was OK, they'd do that. (and they did) Anyway, they brought the wrong mattress. Instead of a low profile mattress, they brought a high profile one. It sits really high on the bed and sister thought her elderly cats would have a hard time jumping up that high so that's why she ordered the low profile mattress. So she decided to keep the mattress and just put a little ottoman by the bed so the cats can use that to get up on the bed. Also one of the lamps has several scratches on it so that's going back. The guys also made a huge mark on the stairway wall. (about 4 feet long) I'll have to paint over it or something. The new furniture looks great. Today we might go to 'Bed, Bath & Beyond' for some new sheets for the bed. It's a Queen size bed and the old bed was smaller so the sheets won't fit the new bed. I'm glad all that's over with. We decided to set up the old bed in the office so it can be used as a spare bedroom and an office. That's going to be my next never ending project. There's still a lot of boxes in that room that have to be unpacked.

Yesterday at H-E-B I got some delicious sugar cookies with icing and red, white and blue sprinkles on top. So good. I hope they weren't left over from the 4th of July. They do taste fresh. I just watched Obama and the President of France giving a news conference. Obama is so intelligent it's almost shocking. Especially when compared to Bush and how very dumb Bush seems whenever he talks without a script. I think that's part of the reason Obama is so popular. Americans are tired of idiot Presidents, we want a smart President.
Thursday, July 24, 2008

Today we got the rain and thunder and lightning from the long tendrils of Hurricane Dolly. Sister and I were in the H-E-B supermarket this afternoon during a particularly heavy rain storm when all of a sudden all the lights went out. It was pitch black, I couldn't even see my sister 2 feet in front of me. (she let out a scream when it happened) Thank goodness (or Ozzie and Harriet) the lights came right back on. We decided at that moment to get our shopping done as fast as possible and get out of the store before it happened again. (which it didn't) Really, I panicked in the dark for a second, it was such a surreal feeling.

Tomorrow the bedroom furniture is being delivered so I have to help get the old bed out of the room before the furniture guys get here. I just hope they're youngish and in good shape. (so they can get everything upstairs)
Wednesday, July 23, 2008

Wednesday, July 23, 2008

Waiting to see if Dolly will bring us any rain. This will be my first hurricane. I'm glad I don't live down on the coast although it does seem like the weathermen enjoy being blown about on the beaches down there.

I was so excited this morning. The show 'Bachelor Father' was supposed to come on the retro channel. (the channel that shows Ozzie and Harriet) and I used to love watching 'BF' way back in the sixties. Well, it didn't come on. Instead the very first episode of 'Leave it to Beaver' came on. Here's some info on 'BF.'

Bachelor Father
11/15/1957 - 11/25/1962

Successful unmarried Beverly Hills attorney Bentley Gregg (John Forsythe) is living the bachelor high life. Then he becomes the guardian of 13 year old Kelly (Noreen Corcoran) when her parents are killed in an auto accident.

The whole household is turned upside down by the addtion of an exurberant teen. This often exasperates the seemingly unflappable butler, Peter Tong (Sammee Tong).

While Gregg had an active social life with the ladies, this never slowed Kelly down in trying to find him a wife.

I haven't seen the show since the 1960's but I do remember that I liked the house on the show. I remember wanting to live in a house like that, and maybe with bachelor father too .

Tuesday, July 22, 2008

I made this in Chocoflop. It's free for now, when it's no longer beta it'll cost. There's practically no help at all. You really have to guess how everything works. Knowing some Photoshop helps.

I'm watching 'Ozzie and Harriet.' They are the most polite, kindest people on Earth. It's so strange.

Tuesday, July 22, 2008

I just finished trying to fix the printer problem with no luck. I used the Disk Utility and the first aid and it did repair about a thousand HP disk permissions but then the printer still didn't work. Then I uninstalled and reinstalled the printer software. ugh, I don't know what the problem is. When I install the printer the set up thingy just won't recognize the printer so it doesn't install all the way. Then I have to 'quit' the installation. I give up for now. I think our neighborhood friend's help is needed.

Monday, July 21, 2008

My header is a grab from a DVD of 'Swan Lake' starring Rudolf Nureyev. I couldn't use the iMac's 'Grab' utility as I was told I wouldn't be able to so I tried the 'ScreenShot Plus' widget and it worked. I just paused the DVD and then selected the portion of the screen I wanted and then saved it to the desktop. I don't know how I ended up with the white line on top of the picture but I'll figure it out. It is kind of fun watching ballet on the computer. I still haven't attached the old speakers, I may do that later today.

When we moved in here the condominium people gave us two little cans of paint so we could do any touch ups that we thought needed doing. That's what I did today with the white oil enamel paint. Just a few little daubs of paint on the stairway railing and on a door frame that Junglebird had chewed up. Now we don't let her within a foot of any wooden parts of the house. (when she's out of the cage) I still have a few more little touch ups to do but not today.

Our printer is no longer working. Somehow sister deleted the whole thing from her computer and now neither computer works with the printer. I tried reinstalling it but it just won't work. We may need our friend to do the honors. He fixed it last time. (it's broken twice now) I never use the printer so I don't really care if it gets fixed. I would like to use the scanner but that can't be used wirelessly. It has to be plugged into a computer.

I downloaded 'Burn' which is a CD burner but I haven't tried it yet. I notice it burns CD's that only work in Mac's by default. It can burn CD's that work in both Mac's and PC's so I wonder which is better? I'll have to figure it out.
