| step up daytoday we had step up day at my school (a day when kids get to visit the teacher they'll have next year). i had the upcoming 4th graders write me letters about themselves. here are some excerpts from the letters.
"did you know that almost every night my father calls me funny looking?"
"i get moved down often, but i am very intellegent, in my opinion."
"i want to be a marine biologist and a ninja."
"i am a fast eater and i like to eat octopus too!"
"one day my twin brother and i got into a bloody battle."
"ms. moom i play real baseball."
...next year is going to be very interesting.

| yesterday i took my class on a field trip to the plimoth plantation (does anyone know why it's spelled plimoth instead of plymouth?). we were in the 1672 english village and i had just reminded them that we needed to remember the rules and that just because we weren't in class, that didn't mean we could act like crazy people. seconds after the words left my mouth a chaperone from another school group says to his group, "there are no rules here so you can do whatever you want." of course my students all look at me because they heard what the guy said just as clearly as i did. i was truly dumbfounded. what adult in their right mind would ever tell this to a group of kids in public? luckily, my students were as shocked as i was and the looks on their faces reflected what i was thinking: who's smart idea was it to put this guy in charge of children? seriously. at least the other teachers and i had a good laugh on our bus ride back to school. truly ridiculous.

| i was making an apple pie tonight and my recipe called for 3/4 cups of butter. i put in 3 sticks. now for anyone who knows about baking, 1 stick is equal to 1/2 a cup. yup, i DOUBLED the butter in my recipe. unfortunately, i only realized this after the pie had been baking in the oven for about 15 minutes. whoops. i attempted to fix it by trying to add in more flour and sugar but i'm not sure how successful i was. the pie looks okay but the apple to crust ratio is a bit off. so sad.
