| WELL THIS IS IT.....this is it.
the race that i have planned for since february
the race that i put in so many miles for
the race that will represent rutgers and all indian runners, before and after.
YES, IT IS THE 10K!
tomorrow at 10:00 am, i will be racing the 10k @ metropolitan champs on the rutgers track with my teammate. i have prepared well for this race and i am ready to go.
wish me luck boys.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
in brief summary, ran a 33:13 10k, went out too slow in the first 5k, picked it up for next 6 laps (i led the last 2) and then i died. i was panting like crazy for the last mile and felt like i was going to drop out, but i hung on. i saw my teammate in front of me and he was going for it. i remembered that i trained hard for this particular race, putting in all the miles and the workouts and doing the right things and being in great shape, and if i dropped out, all of this would be a waste. at the 800 mark, i remembered pre's quote, "To Give Anything Less Than Your Best is To Sacrifice the Gift", and i knew that this was no time to give up, so i dug in tough and slowly, but steadily, started my kick at the 600 mark, moved around, and when i hit 200 to go, i went for hit. panting and screaming in exhaustion and pain at the last 100, i charged for the finish line. and when i finished, i fell to my knees, knowing that i finished the race. that was the most important thing for me. i didn't care about what i was going to run, my goal was to finish that race. and i did. turns out the guy behind me was alex emerel whom i beat by 14 secs. throughout the race, i was very happy to have two teammates with me, my rutgers teammate and my former holmdel teammate. in retrospect, i was disappointed with the time, but happy with the finish.
and now i am done, i don't know how many weeks i'll take off, it'll probably be a month. but now i want to worry about is xc 2007. we're getting solid recruits next year and we'll be even better than last year.
my goals this year were
28:00 (5 miler- broke that by 40 (27:20 at vanny), rest of the races sucked). 9:00 3k on the track (didn't get that the first time, ran a 9:19 at great dane at armory, but came back at yale's indoor track to run an 8:56 (second best for the team, and 1st best around freshman) 16:00 5k on the track (during metropolitans indoor, me and brandon (same guy who ran the 10k), were talking about what we were going to run at the 5k, i was aiming for 16:20, but he said he wanted 15:30. when we went out in that race, i didn't expect to stay with the group. me and brandon were in the back for the first mile and we moved up slowly and steadily, it was like from last to around (9-11th place). we both ran 15:35 (although he finished ahead of me by .6) and this surprised me a lot. from this day onwards, i am looking for more in every race i run and i want to run fast and hard! later at monmouth invitational, we both ran a 15:32 outdoors (this time i railed him at the finish line. my dad has all the pictures, some of them are blurry, but i know you'll enjoy them.
32:30 10k (see above).
2007-2008 goals 26:10 5 miler 8:37 3k 14:59 5k 31:06 10k
school's ending, finals are beginning, but this means that i will be at more holmdel meets over the weekend. i will probably come to lion invite, so don't be surprised when i'm there, because it really ain't a big deal. i come back home every weekend (i hate it at rutgers over the weekend, there's nothing to do there).
from what i've been reading from http://sammyliu.com, holmdel seems to do very well. my advice to holmdel to not worry about those dual meets and get after those championship meets. THEY COUNT MORE! the workouts mccaff is giving you, the intensity in your runs are all for the championships. YOU GOTTA GET AFTER THEM. i'd better see you all rolling at the end. i've seen improvement from horace, stantiforth and others, and leadership in matt, richie, chuck and the rest of the juniors. DON'T AFRAID OF ACCEPTING PAIN EVERYDAY. when you're in huge pain during the race, think of the runners ahead of you, especially the late great josh mooney who became the enthusiastic leader that wanted us to succeed and was yet to hit his prime, when he was taken away from us, shawn wu who has done 2 boston marathons, brian o'keefe who had huge heart problems during his junior season and most of xc and came back to roll on the track for his last year, andrew mundy- the smart leader that gave encouragement every day to you guys and succeeded in getting all state group 3 3rd team, jeff cody who suffered for three years- he always wanted to improve and make it to the meet of championships, yet he was never satisfied with his race and wanted more- his dynamic senior season proved that, as he made it to his final moc in the spring, andrew wong- a former wrestler turned runner who gave it his all in every workout and race, alex emerel who trained consistently and persistently to hit his goals, Achen and his goofy sarcasm, yet was a leader who finally believed in himself and made things happen that he never expected, adam the beast, running hard everyday, going throughout pain and pride with distinction and being a strong leader who always led by example, and most importantly- TERRY WU, he was in pain every fucking day of his life, he suffered even more than you think, (and if you haven't read his old entries, SHAME ON YOU AND START READING!), he ran times that (although weren't great) provided a great future for this hard working young man, i remember his freshman year- when he ran with the better guys over the summer, because he was better than all of us, and when he was injured after, he was so enraged that he biked hard, lifted a lot and made it clear that he would be back, he indeed came back his freshman spring season and ran a 4:51, 2:10 or lower, and a 10:42 (IN HIS FIRST 3200 EVER). think of what we have done to inspire you to become great. BELIEVE IN YOURSELVES. I STILL BELIEVE IN YOU GUYS! BUT YOU HAVE TO DEFINE YOURSELVES IN THESE CHAMPIONSHIP RACES OTHERWISE ALL THE TRAINING AND ALL THE WORKOUTS WILL ALL BE A WASTE!
wow, i just love holmdel way too much. i just can't get it out of my mind. this is where i was raised and where i succeeded. it is like a magnet that will never release me.
all righty then, that's about it. just read all this and think about it, how it can make you even better than before. don't worry about the times, just do it! i'm shutting up now.

| NEVER FORGET......March 28th, 2006- 1 yr ago. we lost two of our classmates in a fatal car crash at 9:45 pm. Never Forget These Young Men who could've had great futures ahead of them.
STEPHEN "STEVE" THOMAS LENTINE- (April 2, 1988- March 28, 2006) JOSHUA "JOSH" WINSLOW MOONEY- (July 23, 1988- April 14th, 2006)
I hope you two are enjoying life up there for a year. You two will always have a place in our hearts.
Love, Jayram
To all the current Holmdel runners, I hope you guys are thinking of Josh before every race. Don't only do this for the team or yourselves, but also for him. He could have been there with us last year racing. He was about to hit his prime. I always think of him before I race and last Saturday I ran a 15:32 5k finishing 9th overall at Monmouth in his honor. I know some of you guys are tired and sore, but DO NOT GIVE UP!!!! He would be ashamed of those who gave up because they thought they weren't good anymore. You guys are good! You have yet to prove yourselves! At Monmouth Counties, you'd better be running your asses off in that 3200. I will be there to see it. The most important thing is to DO IT!! I am proud of you young men and I know you will surprise everyone in every race you run!
current times:
27:20 (5 miler van cortlandt) 8:56 (3k yale indoors) 15:35 (5k armory indoors) 15:32 (5k monmouth)
I'm always ready for more! ROAR!!!
