So I finally finished that book, The Chosen by Chaim Potok....GREAT BOOK. He is an eloquent writer and includes a lot of sociology in his books. Thanks Betsy Wolf for recommending him to me :)

aaanyways...not much has happened since last time I wrote. I babysit ALLLLL the time, i'm getting kind of weary but its still great. I LOVE the kids I babysit. I thought babysitting so much this summer would be birth control for me, but I actually want kids now more than ever. But fear not, it will be a loong time until I have some.

Me and my long time friend Ross Boston decided tonight that if  we are both unmarried at the age of 30, we will marry each other. He was one of my prom dates in high school and we have been friends for a long time. He has a good job, tattoos, an awesome dad, and has good taste in music, so I think it will work out, haha. but really i'm glad we decided this because it probably will happen since we all know I will be 30 and single. Its crazy he is about to go to Iraq/Afghanistan in a few months which is crazy but very fitting for him.

I am watching Rob and BIg right now and Drama is riding a bike indoors that is powering the house's energy and Big Black just painted his Pinto green because he changed it to run off of vegetable oil. This show is the BEST.  Speaking of going green, my sister's friend started the EnviroCAB company in the D.C. Area and it is the only cab service in the world to be carbon negative..pretty sweet huh? and the company is growing real fast, you should look them up and support them!!

And lastly and most importantly, I got a Macbook and as a result, I got a free iPod touch! I am free of PC's and their ghastly viruses and slow applications :)

In other news, I kind of don't want to go back to school...I mean there are a few people I miss and want to see, (ok, maybe like 2 people) but I'm just not ready to say goodbye to the summer yet...

ps--im into this French singer named Yelle, French pop music is the best.

So I saw a guy at McDonalds filling out an application for a homeless shelter and I started to cry in the middle of McDonalds. I don't cry easily at all but i just felt overwhelmed and couldn't hold it in. I guess God helped me better understand compassion in that moment. I really want to do something about it. Too often I feel a great passion toward a particular type of people group but I generally feel that passion for a while and never act on it. Eventually the passion wears off. I want to help out at a homeless shelter like I did when I was younger. I would go every Christmas, New Years, and other times during the year to feed the homeless and I still vividly remember each and every time I helped out, it made such an impact on me and I can only hope the impact was reciprocated.

welp, I'm off to CIY for the week...I hope it goes well!

We Started Nothing

its been a while...i've been super busy lately but i kind of like it that way...

One thing I have realized about myself over this past year is that I need space. I get really really annoyed when people smother me. Zolaikha and I work perfectly together...i wish she was a boy..haha, but really we don't hang out every second of our lives and we don't mind if the other person doesn't call or text the other back immediately. We respect each other's space. If she doesnt feel like hanging out, it doesn't upset me and vice versa. All I know is that I also as a result, hate when guys push so hard...some girls like that but it actually annoys me so much you have no idea.. It makes me more attracted to you when you give me space and allow me to answer you when I feel like it.  I'm naturally kind of a loner...not because I have no friends or I am depressed, but because I like to be by myself sometimes. I purposely hang out in my dorm room at school sometimes or sit by myself in the cafeteria on purpose. ok i'm done.

ok, so i'm not done..haha, this is my venting post. So this mornign on the way to tae kwon do, we were listeining to the radio and on 99.5, women were calling in who have men pay for their rent and cars. This one lady said she has never even met the man who pays her rent...that is ridiculous. I personally, would not be able to let anyone pay my rent unless I was married to the person. I can barely accept help from my parents when I need to pay for something. Its clearly just my pride or maybe the way I was raised, but I want to have my feet planted firmly on the ground rather than rely on someone else! The woman I work for is my role model. Susan Adams is the type of woman I want to be when I'm older. She is strong, intelligent, independent, and a great mom. She works and contributes a great amount, financially and mentally to the family. I really do look up to her :)

hahahah, so I read this post over and realized why I only have like 8 friends and no boyfriend....i'm selfish and hardheaded...

I know now you are saying, "cana, tell us how you REALLY feel..."

Sounds Of Summer - The Very Best Of The Beach Boys

OK. so I just had to post about this because I am still smiling :) haha, so I dropped the kids off at their private schools this morning, which is very overwhelming and intimidating. The moms are all beautful and just seem like super moms...they have a routine perfected each morning that gets their kids out the door efficiently, make beautiful cupcakes when its time to celebrate birthdays at school and drive nice SUV's while their kids watch a movie on the way to school. Anyways, that wasn't the point, I just wanted you to get a feel for the environment into which I am now immersed. So we get to Spencer's school. He is the youngest at 3 years old. He has an older sister, Hannah who is 8. The teacher in the class first of all has THE BIGGEST diamond ring I have ever seen in my life, I am suprised she doesn't scratch the kids with it! haha, but she was soooo nice and here is the part where I smile...She said that the other day they were asking the kids what they wanted to be when they grew up and Spencer told her that he when he grows up he wants to be a "pretty pink princess with long beautiful hair." Now tell me that isn't the cutest thing you've ever heard!

I seriously want kids now...I wasn't so sure before because babysitting all the time kind of turns you off to the idea, but I have been with this family for a LONG time and when you have actually taken part in their growing up, it is very exciting and rewarding.  I can imagine that raising your own kids is 100 times more exciting/rewarding than even that. I want to perfect my own morning routine someday

so.

my birthday was loads of fun..it ended up just being one huge get together at my sister's house and ended in Dupont. It was Kristin, Ashley, Zolo, and me and then there was about 25 other people who I really don't know aside from my sister's 4 exes that attended...it was verrrry interesting to say the least. The plus was that there were a bunch of guys, or MEN rather from Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr...what a name...the law firm my sister works at and they paid for everything even for my friends

There was a HUGE storm and we were without power for a day...it was craziness. People here FREAK out when there is no power for 10 minutes, let alone a whole day! there were people sitting outside just frowning as their kids ran wild since there was no light indoors. My brother, mom, and I played Monopoly for a while because my laptop was dead and it started to rain outside. Don't ever play with my mom, she is RUTHLESS...I almost cried because she would laugh when I went to jail or landed on Income Tax.

I went to my first Nat's game for this season and they played my personal rival team: The Cardinals. We used Ashley's Dad's company tickets and got really great seats. It was Ryan Zimmerman bobble head night, but we got there too late to get one because we were stuck in stupid 395 traffic. HOWEVER, Ashley worked her magical girl charm and got 2 bobbleheads for us :) my running tally of bobbleheads is now up to 5. The Nationals game was awesome as usual even though Zimmerman is injured and Lopez didn't get us any runs. The game was a bit slow at the beginning but they tied in the bottom of the 9th and ended up going for an extra innning during which Dukes hit a 2 run homer at the last second and the score ended 10-9. Needless to say, it was intense.

I FINALLY start babysitting on Monday it's gonna be hard because they leave for work at 6:15am..which means I will have to leave my house at about 5:50 am and I don't finish until 4pm and lately I haven't been able to sleep well. It will be fun though and i get to stay at their house for a week while they are in the Bahamas :)

I went to Celebrate Fairfax tonight which is a festival at the beginning of every summer to, well...celebrate Fairfax. It sounds lame, but its actually pretty awesome. Ok Go! performed because the lead singer is from D.C. They were pretty good, but my sister, Zolaikha and I found a piece of paper wrote my phone number on it and made it into a paper airplane to throw on stage. We just wanted to know where they were going after the concert, but they never called..sad day. Now I refuse to buy their cd.  I will illegally download it off of some Russian website, purely out of spite. The upside came after we crashed and burned with Ok Go! we saw the Kelly Bell Band perform which is a local blues band that my sister knows of. Then we hung out with them afterwards which made up for our previous failure.

and that's my life in a nutshell.
