  • Things I don't believe but . . .

If gender roles are learned and the differences in the abilities and temperaments of men and woman are not inherent to their sex. Then shouldn't we just retrain trans-genders and turn them back into men?

If sexual preferences are set at birth, why do we try and treat pedophiles?

Carbon dioxide is the gas that we are all supposed to be worried about. It is responsible for about 2% of the greenhouse effect. Water vapor is responsible for 95% of the effect. Does that make watering your lawn more a threat to the environment than driving your car?

    ____________

More importantly do you find that you are on line a lot less come summertime? I certainly am not here as often, but I am still around. I will talk at you all latter.

  • Featured and over done

One of the featured xangas this week is on the topic of homosexual adoption. That blog entry is an example of a brilliantly put together persuasive argument. Not that it was at all factual, no it was way off really. Overstating it conclusions, using selective stats from other works, works that were also promoting an agenda. The actual research used was heavily cherry picked from some very weak studies. Make your point, and back it up with one study. Then make another point and back it up with a different study. And ignore the fact that the two studies disagree with each other on the first and second points. The person writing the featured article, did not do this. She used information from an article that did it for her.

But it was not the effort at using research, that made it a brilliant work. No that just gave it a hit of factual data to back itself up. No the story line was an emotional one. It was an emotional argument, that made anyone pointing out factual flaws appear to be heartless. That story line made you want to be a good person, agree with those 'facts" and not look into them. I am not complaining, I only wish I had the ability to write so persuasively. I certainly would do it if I could.

My position on that subject was that homosexual couples, while not ideal, were a better choice than no family what so ever. They should be utilized were traditional families were not available. That rather liberal point of view was soundly disagreed with by some people claiming that homosexual parents were “supper parents”, better than all others. I am not joking.

So what do you think, are adoptions a good place for social experiments at redefining families? Or should we put children in the best and most traditional homes possible? As they have the best and longest track record.

  • I dare you

I bet  none of you have ever seen a cuter kissy face picture than this one.

The fact that Dan is so attractive is the secret here.

    I am a lucky girl!

He is off work soon. Actually he is off work right now and driving home.

So admit it,  that is the very best
kissy face picture, you ever seen.  Ok maybe you think yours are cuter, but you have not proved it to me.

I am going to take a shower, and open a bottle of wine.

    Bye Bye for now.

  • Things we say and think

I just love reading blog entries, that trash the beliefs of conservative Christians. And I have been reading a lot of them lately. Tales of who Christians love to hate, who they blindly follow, what they mindlessly think, and the foolish ways that they live their lives.

I say "they" because it seems nothing being criticized as the beliefs and actions of my follow conservative Christians, shows any resemblance to anyone I know. The funny thing is, that almost all of these little bashing sessions state, that they are not bigoted against Christians. They even have some "Christian friends". Friends who are nothing like, these mythical Christians that they are bashing. It seems no one actually has any personal contact, with this honorable people who are being talked about. But there are lots of them it seems. They even want to take over this country and turn it into theocracy. Again no one personally knows anyone who thinks this way. But they just now it's true

That all makes sense, because these people being bashed are not Christians at all. They are what is called straw men.

The worst blog entries on this subject, that I have read so far, were written by politically liberal Christians of all people. No they did not seem to personally know who they were talking about ether.

So do you have a group of people, that you think of as the bane of the nation, fools, cretins, morons, or maybe even evil? Do you personally know any of them? Is what you think they believe, coming from first hand knowledge? Or are you just reacting to what you have heard about them? This applies to different races, neighborhoods, parts of the nation, or world. Do you hold extreme opinions about people you really don't know at all?

Do we justify are own bigotry, because almost everyone around us, holds the same bigoted opinion?  If "everyone" believes it, it must be true.

  • Now I know why people hate some Christians

Actually extreme atheists do the same thing.

I have not been on line much since I came back. But I left a comment on revelife. The entry made the claim (among others) that Christians have a bad reputation, because people expect them to be perfect. and of course we are far from it.

I left one of my usual quick comments.

"Yes we are called hypocrites because we have standards that we fail to meet. It is much easer not to have any standards at all.Or at least no standards that you will admit to. Then you can not be called a hypocrite."

I was attacked for claiming that none Christians have no moral standards. Yeah I know, it's obvious I said no such thing. But now I have a seminary student, trying to parse my words into a statement proclaiming the amorality of all none Christians. He has taken it to his professors, friends, and wife, all in effort to gain support that the grammar of my words indicates that all none Christians are without morals.
The writer I was replying to, is a Christian, just in case you think the word "you" might confuse anyone with a IQ higher than that of a sea cucumber.

I will strangle the next person who tries to make an argument based on what is written between lines unseen.

Question should seminary students be shot?

Can anyone possibly come to the conclusion that my 41 words, was a damnation of none Christians?

I enjoy a good argument, but some people are such twits about it.

Edit: quick admission. I should not have continued talking with that guy once I saw were he was going with it, and his level of obsession with always being right. That is a trait I am an expert in. I do enjoy a good argument, sadly that wasn't one of them.

About Me

  • Just a girl. I am a contrary one, but beyond that I am not so unusual, if that is unusual at all. I grew up on a farm, only 35 miles outside of Seattle, closer to Tacoma. Tacoma a city I lived in for a while. I am now back at the farm, having fully succeeded in not following any of my parent’s advice. Sadly it was all very good advice I didn’t follow. So here I am, eating crow. Were did that saying “eating crow” come from?

Pulse

  • My beer rating entry grew to large (to much research). I need to break it up. American light larger (cheep swill) will go first.
  • All worn out today. All you nice people talking on my last entry, enjoy your selves. I'll talk at ya tomorrow
  • Am i the only one with kissy face pictures on xanga? Does that make me some sort of an exhibitionist?
