guys, i just bought the local liquor store's last six-pack-and-a-half of Pumpkinhead Ale. Why are all the best beers seasonal? Miami isn't even seasonal.

If you haven't tried it, I HIGHLY recommend Shipyard Brewing Company's Pumpkinhead Ale.

Also, I saw the choral work Carmina Burana tonight. It was dope.

it's kind of funny, but i can only update this site from my home, on my 6 year old computer (which i'm proud to say is running leopard!), and I can only update my other site, marcusnor.com from my office at church.

The other site looks better if nothing else, and it's where my 2007 Christmas Wish List is!

So, go to marcusnor.com

Where Shall You Take Me?

i'm quite conflicted. I hate going to church.

It's for several reasons, but i feel the biggest of which is my employment at the church. I've tried for months now to make it work better, but i feel like i'm competing with the entropy that results from having roughly 4B people that have input for me. There's no one person i can turn to for clarification. It's so funny, cause my other job is so well-structured that i'm turning more and more to the religion of work. it's weird.

last week was particularly hard, because i showed up (after a VERY difficult week at my 1st priority, full time job) at church to get my work done to find out that i had not been given roughly 40% of the things i needed to get my job done well. I'm definitely mostly to blame for my failure last week, because I assumed the things I needed would be there, and I chose to not go in earlier in the week to make sure.

To compensate for last week's failures, I went in twice this week to get everything all set. I guess this would be a good time to elaborate on what I do. I'm responsible for everything that is projected on our sanctuary's screens each Sunday. Song lyrics, scripture passages, and sermon notes are the main elements. I use a Mac Pro with a video switcher and some nice software, ProPresenter. It's kind of stressful, cause if I mess up in a service, everyone sees. I'm pretty good at it though. I think i have a better eye for it than most people, but I may be biased, cause I think i'm better at a lot of things than most people (sports is NOT one of those things. reaching things on tall shelves is definitely one of those things). Anyway, as of thursday night, everything was set for Sunday except the sermon notes, which I am supposed to be emailed each saturday afternoon.

I just sat down (yes, at 1AM) to put the sermon notes in. There was no email. Tomorrow, it will look to most people like I have failed my job, which i guess on a cosmic level is true, but honestly, it's not my fault. I was busy today (really, i wasn't. it was my day off [from real job] so I watched a lot of college football, a couple episodes of The Wire, and a couple episodes of Weeds. incidentally, i HIGHLY recommend The Wire if you can handle a little violence, a little nudity, and a ton of bad language. it's exceptionally well-written. Weeds is funny like i imagine a lot of things would be funny if one was expanding their mind with drugs, which I don't do), and I don't think I should have had to check my email earlier. I guess maybe it's a good commercial for the iPhone. "I lost my job at a church cause I don't get my emails instantly on my phone."

Anyway, long story short (way too late), i'm frustrated with my job, which makes me frustrated with the church. I'm thinking about quitting the job at church and finding a different church. or maybe even becoming a functional member of the body instead of a dysfunctional member of the staff.

Pray for me.
