We have been busy enjoying ourselves. We spent a day on the boat.

Toured the golf courses and some of the homes by water.

Watched kids tubing.

Sat and applauded the guys jumping from the cliff.

Went to the fireworks.

And ended the evening with a BANG!!!

HAPPY HUMPDAY!!

Quiet day here today. H.H. has gone off with his buddy ROMEOS to boat up river for lunch. Going further today so left earlier and will be back later. Time for me to get some computer stuff done and kick back and read. Then will have to get back into the swing of things tomorrow and start doing some housework. We have the second group coming over Saturday night for the next fish fry. Plan on having everyone out on the deck, but incase of weather do need to have part of the house clean to move inside if necessary.

Also have to start thinking of doing groceries, and making beds up fresh etc. for the first of the company over the next two weeks. The first ones arrive the first and the second batch the fifth, so there is some overlap. All family, H.H.'s sons and wives as well as grandson and wife. Don't know if granddaughter and her three will be coming yet or not. This is going to be a busy time, wonder if I'll get out of the kitchen. Not everyone is staying here, but there will be some shuffling back and forth with different ones. It is great having family around but got to admidt it is also great when they head back home. Epecially when they invade our space. Yes I love them all regardless.

The other evening I went outside and played around with my camera at twilight. Got some nice shots and meaybe I'll just come to the computer and pull up these shots when I need a calming moment or two. Love the way light playes off the clouds at dusk. Here are a few to share with you.

A FUNDAY MONDAY!

We got up this morning and decided to take advantage of a beautiful day and head for the mountains. Stopped for a late breakfast just before entering the National Park at a restaurant that we had mentioned trying on one of our earlier trips. Took our favorite drive up the back way towards Gatlinburg as the rhodendron were in bloom and at or near peak. Drove along the stream and stopped at almost every pull out to get pictures. This is some of what we saw.

On our way back decided to take a different route over the Foothills Parkway. Again many pullouts to view the spectacular scenery. Great views of the mountains.

And back over the road we had just traveled.

It was a relaxing day and we slowly worked our way back home for dinner and a quiet evening.

I have been tagged by The Pretty Sister... so here goes;

1. What I was doing 10 years ago: Living in Florida and the total caregiver for my husband during the last six years of his life.

2. 5 things on my list to do today: Rather late to list for today so guess my list for tomorrow will do: Get up and get breakfast and coffee for H.H. before he heads for the golf course, water the lawn before the day becomes too hot for it, make bed and straighten house, do a load of laundry, finally get the last two (catchall) shelves in my closet straightened out.

3. 3 Things I would do if I were a billionaire: See that each of my kids had a home free and clear of mortages (also H.H's), settle my Mom in a newer one level house with newer ammenities (though she would fight me on that one), Make us totally debt free, secure college educations for the grandchildren, after setting some aside to secure our old age, the balance would be given to several causes here in our community.

4*3 of my bad habits: Not being able to say NO, Taking too much on myself and not asking for or accepting help, an occasional foul mouth, procrastination.

5* Places I’ve lived: Fitzwilliam and Keene NH, Cap Cod MA, Barre and Montpelier VT, Bradenton FL, LoudonTN

6. 5 jobs I’ve had: Babysitter, Mothers Aid, Chambermaid, Waitress, Medical Supply Assembler, Key Punch Operator, Administrators Assistant in Agents Training for Insurance Company, High School Receptionist, Teaching Sub, Tour Guide and Gift Shop Sales Staff for a Granite Quarrying Company

TOTALY TIREDOUT TUDESDAY!

Golf this morning, hot, sticky and way too high a score. Home this afternoon, laundry, and a nap. yup actually took one. Not much to report, a long day and I'm up way past the time I should be down for the count. Brain not working right, so will just leave you with a short chuckle.

I will never hear church bells ringing again without smiling.

Upon hearing that her elderly grandfather had just passed away, Katie
went straight to her grandparent's house to visit her 95-year-old Grandmother and comfort her. When she asked how her grandfather had died, her grandmother replied, 'He had a heart attack while we were making love on Sunday morning.'

Horrified, Katie told her grandmother that 2 people nearly 100 years
old having sex would surely be asking for trouble.

'Oh no, my dear,' replied granny 'Many years ago, realizing our advanced age, we figured out the best time to do it was when the Church bells would start to ring. It was just the right rhythm. Nice and slow and even.
Nothing too strenuous, simply in on the Ding and out on the Dong.'She paused to wipe away a tear, and continued,

He'd still be alive if the ice cream truck hadn't come along.

SUNDADSDAY!!

We had a dry fish fry. The clouds came, dropped a sprinkle or two and the clouds went. A good time was had by all, and even the cook finally had a chance to sit and enjoy the guests. A pleasant evening, no bugs for a change, and not humid. We had ten people here in all and it was a good dress rehersal to do it all over again in two weeks for about 26 people. Will borrow a couple more fryers however as mine is really too small to keep up with the volume so everyone gets their fish hot. And, H.H. gets to buy the groceries again for the next one as it is for all his golf buddies and their spouses. Maybe this time I'll even let people bring food if they offer.

A HAPPY FATHERS DAY TO ALL THE DADS OUT THERE IN XANGA LAND, AS WELL ALL THOSE WHO ARE DADS TO SOMEONE ELSES LITTLE ONES, GRANDDADS, UNCLES, BROTHERS, OR JUST BEING LIKE A DAD TO SOMEONE.

REMEMBERENCES OF MY OWN DAD TOO.

SATURDAY PLAYTIME !

Got a fish fry on schedule for tonight. Hope the rain holds off so we can have it outside and I don't have to spend the rest of the night smelling fried fish. This was H.H's idea so he had to buy the groceries and drinks. Only 10 in this group and he thought the food was expensive. Wait till the next one he has invited people to where we will have 26 then see how much food and drink he will have to buy. Yup his party, his expense. Once this is done and I have everything cleaned up again, and yes that is my job!

I think it is time to plan a trip.

WHOOHOOO WEDNESDAY (AKA HUMPDAY)!

Another day of H.H. off to the links. This is one of his all day rounds with the East Tenn. (hehe)Seniors league. So will get some work done here and then do some groceries and maybe pick up the lawn trimmer from D.D.

Yesterday was another busy day. I had visitors! Off and on all day different ones decided to stop by.

This one decided to show up and have breakfast with me.

Later in the day this visitor came by to see what I was doing in the front yard.

The third one is rather shy and only let me get the shot as he waved and ran on by.

This last one seemed to want to hang around all day and didn't care how many pictures I took of him.

So as you can see I was busy entertaining all day.

TUDESDAY!

'Bout time I got this post done. Of course when I took D.D. home she could go in and sit down and offload pictures and do a post. I came home and continued working in the yard as it got closer to dusk and didn't have to deal with the heat and sun. Got more mulch put around plants, with some weeding first. Then seed and dirt to repair some patchy places in the side lawn. Of course the guy from Chemlawn and says it ain't gonna grow, it'll just bake like it's in an oven. Good ole H.H. backs him up saying of course, you only plant seed in the fall or early spring, everyone knows that. Well H.H. had planted seed early spring, by tossing it on the hard clay ground with no roughing up the dirt or covering seed with other dirt. So guess what got baked in the sun and washed away in the rain. Well maybe it won't grow, but I'm going to keep it covered and watered and see what happens. This was supposed to be a hardy seed with coating to help hold moisture. The dirt on top will give it something to germinate into. That is how I have always done it even in the summer. Let's see who is right later on. I'll be big enough to admidt it if I'm wrong.

Now, that said, on to other things. I'll be carefull not to post too many duplicate pictures of our trip to Cades Cove. It was a fun day and I won't put up all my hundred plus pictures either. Our first stop was at a waterfall/rapids near the stone arch over the road. Know we both got pictures there, but I took a couple that she wasn't looking at the same perspective I was.

It always amazes me how clear these streams are up here in the mountains. I could get this picture of the top of this boulder all the way to the bottom of it on the streambed.

Know she showed pictures of the John Oliver place but I wanted to put up a couple more. I love this fence line and the old homestead cabin was interesting.

Of course there was at least one interesting door at each stop and this is the one from here.

And D.D. decided to pick up a Hitchiker on the walk.

The next two churches, the Primitive Baptist and the methodist, were both interesting archeture but I was most interested in the two old cemetaries in back of them and the old stones placed there.

The one for the Revolutionary War Veteran shows this person lived to be almost 100 years old, remarkable for those times.

This one had no engraving of any kind on it, or age has worn it away, but, being two separate pieces of the same stone, we think possibly mother and child lost in childbirth. Romatical logic maybe, but have seen similar for that reason before.

Don't know what the COA stands for on this stone. Got the 3rd Tenn. Cav. Thinking this stone was from the War Between the States.

And of course a church door.

The second Baptist church had a couple unique features and I love the steeple and bellfrey.

This cross was sitting in the center of the church floor. Wonder if it was made from the brick that the origional wood stove sat on, as it looked though there was a chimmy opening directly over it.

I'm not even going to guess what use the building was that this door led to. Actually it sat to the side of the cemetary so figure it held tools used there.

A stopping place to just view the scenery. I enjoy shots like these, and it explains why they are called the Smokys

Half way through our trip is another homestead and small community area. D.D. has already explained about Aunt Becky, so won't duplicate that, will just add some more pictures, and a couple extras that I had to explain what they were. Sorry dear, but you know your mother is an "old" country girl who has seen some of this equiptment being used in her childhood.

At the next stop we were here at this little cabin. But inside Mama wasn't happy with me being there

and this was why.

Beilieve this housed either chickens or hogs. Another door, am I begining to see a recuring theme here?

On our way to the next stop there was some confussion along the road. What is it? One last stop on our way out of the cove with just a couple more buildings, but again a couple interesting features and a "What is that for?"

I think these might have been used to put musket barrels through to fire from the inside of the house if attacked by indians

And an old woodshed with a chopping block still in place, how they got it there in the first place I won't even try to guess.

Think I have overwhelmed myself as well as everyone else today with a photo heavy post. So will leave it for now and find some more interesting things to put up on another day.
