*Running*

I started running a couple of months ago using the Couch-to-5K program.  The first week on that program, I ran for 60 seconds, walked for 90 seconds for several cycles.  The time running gradually goes up with walking breaks in between.  Just a few weeks ago, I thought running for 3 minutes was the hardest thing I've ever done (it was...at that time!).

But yesterday...I ran for 16 minutes without stopping!!!!  And it was in my neighborhood, so it wasn't as flat as the trail I usually run on (i.e. there were some gradual hills during my 16 minute run)!  When I calculated it on mapmyrun.com, it looks like I ran for just over a mile.  W.i.t.h.o.u.t. s.t.o.p.p.i.n.g.  :)

I've learned so many things running (thus far):

~I can do really hard things, if I break them down into smaller pieces.
~I can do more, go further than I think I can.
~Small changes really add up.
~Sometimes it's best to ignore the little annoyances, and they'll go away.
~Don't ignore the big ones though...it's okay to take a break.
~If people stare at me and think I look funny...well, that's their problem.  I'm the one making changes in my life and they're not.

I still have a long way to go before I am able to run a 5K, but I'm getting there.  I'm pretty sure I've NEVER run a mile without stopping...so I'm sure I'll be able to keep improving.

I am having problems with my hip/upper leg.  I rested for 2 weeks, and it got much better, but after yesterday it's hurting again.  I'm hoping I can go to a chiropractor soon, but it will probably be at least a month (after I start my new job).  I'm not going to overdo it, but in some ways I don't mind too much b/c it's my first real sports-related injury...and in some weird way, it feels satisfying to be slightly hurt from athletic pursuits (since I've never had athletic pursuits in the past).

*Michelle's World*

  • Sometimes I get so frustrated with myself.
  • There are so many things I want to do each day,
  • But I need so much sleep.
  • So I stay up late getting things done,
  • Then I 'oversleep' which gives me a late start to the day.
  • (('Oversleep' is not a good term b/c I'm only sleeping 7-8 hours)).
  • ((I have unrealistic expectations about how much/little sleep I need)).
  • I have not ran in 2 weeks.
  • That is not good.
  • It was crazy hot for a week.
  • Then I hurt my hip.
  • ((It's doing better now)).
  • And I haven't had time yet this week.
  • Grr.
  • I don't want to lose the progress I made.
  • I want to run.
  • I don't have time though.
  • ((And I'm not just making excuses)).
  • We went to Pittsburgh over the weekend for Sean's sister's college graduation.
  • She finished college in 3 years.
  • That's half the time it took us.
  • Heh.
  • Saturday, we went on a Just Ducky tour!
  • It was a tour of Pittsburgh in an amphibious truck (goes on land and water).
  • The tour guides were funny,
  • And the whole thing was really fun!
  • Getting to our hotel in Pittsburgh was a trial b/c construction kept detouring us.
  • But, when we eventually got a map and learned our way around,
  • We really enjoyed Pittsburgh.
  • We forgot our camera, so we don't have any pictures.
  • I'm so tired of school.
  • Only a few more weeks (a month?).
  • But I'm really getting antsy to be done.
  • It sure doesn't feel like the middle of June to me.
  • Summers are usually more laid back.
  • But this year, I've been so busy.
  • I haven't really had time to enjoy the moment.
  • Hopefully, this will change when I work only one job and don't have school to do.
  • Hopefully.

*Quirky Michelle*

I've been tagged. My friend Kathryn tagged me to spell out 6 quirks that I have.
Here are the rules:*Link the person who tagged you.*Mention the rules in your blog.*Tell about six unspectacular quirks of yours.*Tag a new set of six following bloggers by linking them

Six quirks about me....

1.  One of my greatest fears is running into an automatic door that fails to open.
2.  When I shop, I'm oblivious to people and objects around me...and regularly run into things if Sean isn't there to 'direct' me.
3.  I have no concept of how long it takes to do things...so I'm always either really early or late...never right on time.
4.  I only wash my hair once a week or less...a la Curly Girl.
5.  I consider going to the movies "wasted friend time."  I'd rather sit and talk to you!
6.  My favorite place to sleep is in the car...while someone else is driving.
