Comments Closed

I’m sick of comment spam - so I turned off the comments for awhile…

In other news, Jenn’s Grandpa is suffering from cancer. Her family really needs some prayer at this time.

CSS Mastery iPod Giveaway

This entry was originally published at [ryanmerket]

Dear Santa Claus,

I hope you are doing well during this stressful time. In regards to the website you have contracted me in doing for the North Pole I just wanted to let you know that I have ran into a bit of a snag in making the rounded corners and shadows. After reading a few blog posts on the subject I believe I can get this worked out if you could send me CSS Mastery by Andy Budd, Simon Collison, and Cameron Moll.

According to reviews of CSS Mastery, in Chapter 3 the book shows step by step how to accomplish rounded corners and shadows in CSS. Amazing!

So if you still want me to hit the deadline, I would appreciate a little help.

I wish the elves and and reindeer are doing well and staying healthy!

Merry Christmas!

Ryan

Walmart Redesigns

This entry was originally published at [ryanmerket]

Walmart has recently completed a redesign of their website. If you are familiar with the old walmart.com then you know how much of an improvement this one is.

The agency responsible decided to go with a monochromatic color palate, and used soft gradients along with bold blues to highlight key areas (navigation, specials, branding, etc).

Walmart Redesign

They are also now using web standards - looks like they were avoiding what Target and Ford came across.

Along with their recent holiday price cuts I can’t believe I am about to say this. Good job Walmart. Very clean, and well done.

Review: Paid to blog?

This entry was originally published at [ryanmerket]

In the past year a number of ‘paid to blog’ sites have emerged. Essentially, these sites give you topics to blog about and if you meet their criteria they will actually pay you for your blog post. Sounds interesting, but how well do they pay, and are they legit?

Recently, I heard about ReviewMe which is one of these ‘paid to blog’ services. As the name sounds, you review products or services in exchange for the almighty dollar. How much? Glad you asked, ReviewMe seems to have an algorithm setup that uses your Alexa ranking, Technorati ranking and RSS subscribers to give you a number. Interesting.

There are a number of blog posts and authors that swear by ReviewMe and claim to be making some nice change on the site. Maybe it is something to look into - heck, if you blog you might as well make some lunch money. Some might find this ‘unethical’ - but I think if the posts are marked as reviews, then the reader can make his own judgments on what to read or not. I don’t want to lure anyone to read anything they don’t want to, so if you don’t want to read any reviews by me then don’t.

So, in the near future I might be reviewing and letting you, the reader, know what I honestly think of some stuff. For a couple of bucks. I will be objective, and I will be sure to spell check. I promise.
