With work and other responsibilities it has been tough to have much free time to do nothing. Aside from being exhausted pretty much every night lately, I can't complain.

Well, in the past few months a lot happened at work. Working in the spring for an accounting firm means you are swamped, no matter which specialty or department you work in, overtime is eminent. This was the case for me as well. I was lucky enough to work with several clients including not for profit organizations such as the Celebration of Lights. During the month of April, I was transferred to Tax to help out with the T1 Tax Pool. I worked about 16-19 days straight and did overtime each night but it was fun. We were even allowed to watch the playoff hockey games on our large overhead projector as we worked. That was a great experience to say the least as I not only learned some of the tax policies within Canada, but I got to deal with some extremely high net worth individuals. It's amazing how much money there is to make in British Columbia. At the end of April though was the end of my 2 work terms. And now it's time for me to go back to school and graduate (it's about time). Following that, I can pursue my designation.

As soon as tax season was over at work, me and my Sweetheart took our vacation together. At 3am in the morning, we drove down to Seattle where we caught a plane to San Diego for a week. The weather down there was kind of disappointing but it always got nice and hot by the afternoon. During our week down in California, we were able to visit Seaworld, the Zoo, and the Wild Animal Park. As we are both animal lovers, we had an awesome time there and took a myriad of pictures. We both fed and interacted with bottlenose dolphins, stingrays, and sealions. That was an experience all on its own. I must say though, seagulls affirmed their level of annoyance during this trip. I also surprised her with a trip to Disneyland during the week and we were able to take in the 50th Anniversary festivities. As we are older, we made an effort to take in the attractions rather than the rides themselves. Of course, we got autographs from most of the Disney characters! (kind of contradictory isn't it?). That trip was fun and extremely tiring I might add. I don't think we've walked so much in a long time.

Finally when we got back, we received a puppy from a breeder. The puppy is a miniature pinscher and she is black and tan. Only 11 weeks old today, she is a very tiny little critter. She is a lot of trouble and is literally a new born baby for me and her, but she loves her very much and that's all I need to know. And... I guess our puppy's pretty cute too. It's already been one year, but I'm so glad that it's me and You. I love you :)

Monday, December 26, 2005

The holidays are here and Christmas has gone by. Though the holidays
are just a series of days at the tail end of the year, it holds with it
a very peculiar sense of affection. Most people want to treat those
they love with presents to show their appreciation. It has been many
years that I have tried to do the same. This year was no different in
that respect but it was different in a very integral way. In no years
do I really hope for a certain present from anyone. I work so that I
can spend money to make those close to me, happy. I like spoiling
people :) But this year was different. I received the only present that
I will ever need. Her. I really couldn't ask for a better present in
you.

Still, I did receive presents as I'm sure all of you did as well. I
finally have a watch now :) It's hard to believe that I'm in my early
20's and I can say it like they say in the commercials: Esquire. :)
Thanks sweetheart.

Relationships are by no means forever glamorous. Maintenance is needed
in every situation over time. It just depends on the determination and
feelings of the two involved. I'm glad we have both.
Where to begin?
Well, I guess I will start with the specifics. Yesterday me and Qi went
to the Disney on Ice (Finding Nemo) showing at the Pacific Colosseum.
That was awesome. I have never been to Disney Land or Disney World
myself so I have no idea what to expect, but I got a taster yesterday.
The show was great and a ton of fun. We really enjoyed ourselves and
even got a picture taken with Bruce the shark. It's nice being a kid
once in a while :). I am starting to look forward to actually being
able to go to the real Disney World someday with her. A full week of
this? Oh yea :D

What else? We have been enjoying ourselves as usual. I did not expect
to have so much fun doing everything with her. Being in her presence
has as much an effect on me as mine has on her. We went to C's
restaurant the other night as well. The food was spectacular and the
scenary was nice. The service there was great too. Definitely a
recommended restaurant to go to if you're willing to pay premium but
not Lumiere prices. I also bought her a watch, I hope she likes it.

As for work, the thing I like to leave until last not because of
importance but because I don't think it's worth thinking about all the
time. Work has been great. I have been learning a lot from all my
peers, managers, and partners. Just knowing how much we can grow from
within the company is amazing. Business trips are going to happen more
regularly and that's alright. I just wish I would be sent to a more
glamorous place like New York or some urban city in the States;
instead, I am being sent to saw mills and the like in interior BC, etc.
I can't complain though, corporate life is very good :). And I know I
have a lot to learn still.
A lot has happened since the
last time I updated. Hmmm I don't even know where to begin. First and
foremost, I guess I should start with the Seattle trip that me and Qi
went to over the past weekend. We had a blast. We had a great start to
the morning as we went to IHop for a good hardy breakfast before
heading down the highway to the Peace Arch. It helped that the weather
was great too. Instead of going to the Premium Outlets, we went
straight to Bellevue Square Mall to pick up a bag from Banana. That
mall never ceases to confuse me (the layout that is). Following that,
we went to downtown Seattle to do some more shopping. Our first stop?
Banana Republic again of course :D. It's always good to take advantage
of the strong CAD along with the nice discount. The Banana on Pike
Street is absolutely amazing. It's HUGE! Not only that, they had a lot
more product than we have in Vancouver. After making a few big
purchases, we went ahead and gased up. Normally the RSX would take
about... say... 48-50$ per fillup here? Well, we basically filled up
with 20$ US. Needless to say, we were pleasantly surprised :D While we
went across the boarder, we were prepared to lie about the dollar value
of our purchases but the guy didn't even take a look at our
identification. Why do I feel so safe here in Canada? Other than that, me and Qi also fed Swan from our hands. 21 years of living and that was our first time hehe.

Work has started for me. It's a big group starting with me this fall at
KPMG. The company is growing and that's pretty obvious. Still, it's
hard not to feel a little out of place. I'm the ONLY recruit who hasn't
graduated yet it seems. I'm also the youngest. But anyway, it's been a
great week. Free breakfast, lunch, drinks, coffee, what else do I need
hehe. So far we haven't done much other than sitting and listening to
introductions from each business line from within the company. Next
week they are also sending us off to Parksville for training and a lot
of drunken fun (hey, they said it). It should be fun :D Getting paid to
get drunk, I'd take that anyday!

Interesting :) Yes,
the simplest of things seem to fascinate me. I guess you could say I'm
a pretty simple person with complex thought processes. Oh, and don't
think I say complex because I'm saying I'm smarter than you think, I'm
just saying that I tend to make things a little harder or more
difficult than they really are sometimes. Ok, maybe more than just
sometimes. I think a lot of people can atest to that, for myself and
for themselves as well.

Well that was about a paragraph of useless typing :) I'm very
constructive as you can see. The past few weeks have been filled with
work and enjoyment from being with her. There is less than two weeks
before I start so I'm just trying to get as much work in from BR as I
can. I must say that the work there is not all that great or
satisfying. I'm excited to start on something new that I know I can
apply to my career.

The past few weeks have also involved a lot of saving. At least
relative to the amount that I would normally be spending. There is a
reason for it though. Did you really think that I could just save? ;)
We're going to Seattle soon and we're planning to buy tons. Maybe a few
dress shirts, ties and business wear before I leave hehe.

"Life is only as beautiful as you make it to be;
But there is always someone who can make it greater"

I'm happy :)

Wednesday, August 17, 2005

Well the break is here. Actually it's been here for just about a week
now. It's kind of strange not having much to do. No work, no school, no
homework. The feeling is bizarre. I guess it is a good thing but isn't
it ironic how we all long for a break, then when it comes, we don't
know what to do with it. There is just about a month to go before I
start with KPMG. I'm excited and I look forward to improving myself so
that I feel deserving to work with such a prestigeous firm. My grades
for this past semester really licked and I have to boost them up again.
It looks like I'll be retaking at least one course in my university
career. A C+ just doesn't cut it :(. Anyways, it will be so nice to not
have to go to school for the next 8 months. I look forward to it.

As for the weekend, it was great! The parents were gone and so me and
Qi took advantage of that. Late nights watching Friends DVD's just
never get old. We also had a bbq with Korean food-man, we were not
hungry for hours after that. The next day we also visited the Vancouver
Aquarium. It has probably been over a decade since I've been there.
Boyy, do I sound old. It was a lot of fun though. The dolphins,
belugas, and other strange looking aquatic creatures kept us
entertained. That and the $20 I had to pay for our photo haha. This is
what happens when I forget to bring my camera!
the opportunity that I have received. My career feels like it is
definitely on track now. To be working with one of the top four most
successful accounting firms in the world is something I've dreamt about
since my first year or so at the SFU. Funny how good things come out of
hard work. I know it won't be easy now, but I'm ready to work even
harder to contribute to the company that has put their faith in me.
It'd be kind of nice to see "Partner" on my business card in the next
decade or more :).

I'm grateful for so many things. I guess as you get older you start to
realize where things come from and how hard it is to earn it. They
don't just come from out of the blue. These events come through hard
work, pain, and determination. To find someone that feels like your
other half; to be able to attain my dreams of first being in the
business administration program while in highschool; to being a part of
a hugely successful firm; I haven't taken any of these events for
granted. I know that I've worked hard to get them. And I will work even
harder to retain them.
For some odd reason I
don't feel the desire to post much nowadays. I'm content in my own
world :) The past few weeks have been amazing. I feel as if I can't
wait to get our lives started.

On the other hand, I've been looking for a co-op position. I've also been looking
into other jobs as well. I suppose it wouldn't be so bad working for
Business Objects Corps. either. I'll have to see how that works out.
Either way, I look forward to not having to go to school in the fall!

So much has happened, both good and
bad. But I'm definitely focusing on the good because that's all that
matters in the end. During the business career expo, I was given first
dibs on the company's I wanted to help out and accompany. So I was
given KPMG, Deloitte and Touche, and Arts Institute. KPMG was my
priority and I got it :D It was my chance to learn more about them, see
the recruiters, etc. In the end of it all.... I was offered a position!
If this all works out, I will have a coop term in the fall with a CA
firm as I wished but didn't think would happen :D

What can be more exciting than that you say? I can't even find the
words to explain it. When you find someone you know is right for you in
every possible way and they feel the same way... :D It's an
unbelievable feeling. I don't want to sap you guys completely, but I
can't get enough of her. Even though we see each other every second
possible, I learn more and more things about her each day; all the
while, loving her even more.

I am content :)
