Watch out for that little blue ball...

So tonight Leah, Melody and I went to the Wellness Center. Leah asked me if I wanted to play some raquetball, which I had never done. It sounded like fun and I knew of Leah's fame for coaching so I figured why the heck not?

Things were going pretty smoothly other than the fact that I was performing terribly, but hey it was my first time. Leah taught me the techniques of raquetball and was constantly encouraging me even as I sucked it up! Leah hit the ball off the wall, I hit the ball off the wall, Leah went to hit it again and then it happened...BAM!!!!! right smack dab in the middle of my eye!!! It all happened so fast! I immediately grabbed my face as tears started to fall...I'm pretty sure the tears were from the fact that a ball hit my eye, not because I was hurt or whatever. I was hurt but not bad enough to cry. Anyways, I sat on the ground waiting for the weird throbbing to stop. At that point two people walked over from the basketball court to see what was going on. By that time I was a little better and started joking about the situation.

As I recall I was setting up slightly behind Leah to prepare for the ball. She, come to find out, was going to show me how to hit the ball off the back wall. Not-so-lucky for me, I was directly behind her and it was a direct hit. I feel the hit and hear Leah yell, "VAL!!!" All the while (I know it went fast but so did my thinking) I think to myself, "Are you serious?" Overall, the experience was quite interesting.

I honestly didn't think raquetball would be so intense my first time. Therefore, I wasn't wearing protective eyewear or anything. I know better now! I can open my eye so no worries there. All I'm left with is a little puffiness and a slightly bruised ego. Hopefully it won't swell!

Last weekend I spent the whole time with 10 highschool freshman girls. Now for many people about my age this would not be their idea of a fun-filled weekend but for me, I had the best weekend that I have had in a long time. As the leader of this particular Disciple Now I figured I would be teaching more than I would be learning but I was thankfully wrong. This weekend was completely refreshing in every way possible. God really spoke to me in a different way through each of these girls. It was so easy for me to be honest during the Bible studies even though I just met all but one of the girls. Best of all, I had so much fun acting like a maniac with them at Incredible Pizza.

Saturday for our service project we went to Brookwood Community Living Center which is a place for people 18 years of age who are mentally challenged to live and work. The residents of Brookwood live in group homes with home "parents" and other people just like them. This type of environment is slower paced and full of repetition which is perfect for someone who is mentally challenged. I had the time of my life hanging out with the Brookwood residents! One lady in particular, Christine, is 40 and her favorite song is "Build Me Up Buttercup" by The Temptations. We had so much fun on the walk we went on singing various worship songs at the top of the lungs. The best part about this experience was the fact that 100 teenagers gave up a few hours of their lives to spend it with the Brookwood residents. It was so heartwarming to see God work through some of the KSM youth. They made other people's weekends brighter just by going on a walk and holding hands with them! I definitely want to go back sometime. Feel free to come with me!

So yeah, my weekend was awesome! God really spoke to me and I was so refreshed. All 10 of my girls have a special place in my heart and I would even go as far as to say that they are my little sisters...who cares that we have only known each other for a weekend. I leave with the theme verses for the weekend:

For we are to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. To the one we are the smell of death; to the other the fragrance of life.
                               2 Corinthians 2:15-16

Isn't that awesome! Good grief that is my new prayer! I am the aroma of Christ, that is incredible!

Much love!

At the moment...

Calling my life crazy right now would be an understatement. There are so many things happening, both good and bad, that make me want to throw up a little. School work itself is fairly stressful but, sadly, that's the least of my worries. I don't want to call myself overcommitted but I did take on a lot of extracurricular activities this year, three of which I lead.

Jesus is also doing some crazy things in my life! I am slowly learning how to completely put Him first in my life. This process is somewhat painful, but I know the pain will ease eventually. I am learning to trust in Him in totally different ways than before. I am looking forward to the day when He makes me whole once again! Until then all I can do is be patient and continue to pray.

In less serious news, I am looking forward to the second annual MLK zoo trip! Hopefully the weather won't do what they say it will...although sleet in Houston would be pretty exciting!

Much love!

Well...xanga has gotten a little boring to me these days. We just got home about 45 minutes ago from Oklahoma. Christmas this year was interesting to say the least. There was family drama (this time more than usual) which was not good. And a 24 hour stomach bug was passed around from family member to family member. One person got sick, felt fine the next day but by that time someone else was sick. Today it's my 6-year-old cousin Blake, poor guy! On my dad's side we had our annual Nerts tournament. Even without as much practice this year Suzie and I won again! Feels good to be reigning champs! I must go now. Facebook is a callin.
