Also, LA folks. The Hanks are having their cd release show on March 6 in the main room of the Knitting Factory! They will be selling copies of their brand new (not even finished as of today) album titled "Distance" I've gotten to hear some sneak sounds and it's AWESOME!  Please come out if you are in the area and want to have a fun time.

Happy Valentine's Day, everyone! Philip and I are in for a night of drinks, dinner, and dancing!

Come one, come all.

Are the rains getting you down? Feeling a little Vitamin D deprived because it's Winter? Annoyed about your job or worried about the upcoming elections? Did some co-workers decide to let a newly-caught-and-snipped feral cat hang out in your office for a couple days without teaching it how to use the litter box?

I have the solution that is sure to brighten your day and lift your spirits!

That's right, and not only will it make you feel happier but you will make me and people all over the United States (and abroad!) feel happier too!

"What's the secret?" you ask? well I'll tell you!

Simply buy The Hanks' new album! It's SO Easy!

The new album is called "Distance", and it is filled to the brim with awesome songs. (Seriously, I can't wait to get my hands on this!) These guys work so hard to be able to make music and tour the country bringing music to the people. They are unsigned so they are putting the album out themselves and really need your help. The Hanks have this wonderful album for pre-sale for $15 the money you spend today will go directly into producing the album you will get in March. If you go to their website www.thehanksonline.com or visit their myspace page www.myspace.com/thehanks you can buy the album.

But wait there's more! If you buy the album from the pre-sale not only will you get the new full-length album delivered to your door(!!!) in early March but you will also receive an exclusive bonus disc only available to those who buy from the pre-sale.

Your action of buying the pre-sale album should make you feel happy because (1) you are helping out a band that works so hard and truly appreciates their fans (2) you are doing something good for yourself (3) you are supporting local music (4) you are making me happy!

I really hope that every single one of you will join me in buying the album today! It is sure to increase the happy in the world. Send me a message when you do buy it so I can personally thank you for helping out such a worthy cause!

Yours truly,

Leslie

PS: If you need more convincing I'd be happy to explain further how this is a great decision.

David Bowie

When we were little and getting ready to go run errands my mom as she put her lipstick on would sometimes say something like "You never know if you are going to meet David Bowie." (One of the legendary celebrity crushes of the women of our household) I took it to mean that you should take pride in your appearance no matter what the occasion. I have realized lately that I haven't really put that philosophy in practice. Usually when I get ready to go to work or walk the dog or run errands I put on whatever clothes and shoes and I put on deodorant. I never spend much time picking out what I'm going to wear or thinking about what effect the clothes have on my appearance. I only rarely (like when I go on a "date" or when I have an important meeting) wear makeup. Most of my clothes don't fit well and are a hodgepodge of items that I have picked up over the years. I still regularly wear things that I bought from thrift stores in high school or maybe even jr. high. In addition to not having a healthy wardrobe to choose from, my sense of style has diminished to a faint ghost of what it once was. (Yes, I'm saying that I used to have a killer sense of style, in my eyes anyway.) Maybe this is the kind of thing that goes in a circle, since I don't have clothes that I like or that fit, I just get frustrated when I try to dress nicely so I've given up in defeat and have resigned to not looking my best. Well, I'm tired of constantly being aware that I'm doing myself a disservice with the way I dress.

In the name of David Bowie I am hereby making it my New Year's Resolution that I will take more pride and care in my appearance (including getting into the habit of exercising regularly). Make no mistake, this is more than me wanting to look pretty. This is me realizing that this is my life and I only get one chance to be a 25 year-old woman.  It is high time that I make the best use of my assets and enjoy them to the fullest. Because I'm worth it and I need to start putting myself first. This is bound to have a ripple effect of my self-esteem, overall feeling of well-being, and my confidence in myself!
