  • May 4, 2007 - Greensburg, KS

As many of you probably know, Greensburg KS is no longer on the map. 95% of the city is gone with 3 buildings left standing including the grain elevators and city hall. The city, which is most famous for having "The World's Largest Hand Dug Well" has been completely wiped out. So far, the death count is at 10, surprisingly low for the time the EF-5 tornado hit. For those who don't know what an "EF-5" is, I'll explain:

Tornadoes are classified on the "Fujita Scale" (Foo-Jee-Tuh) based on winds and damage. An "F-0 & F-1" tornado does minimal damage like knocking over trashcans, pulling up small trees, and maybe tearing siding off a house. These tornadoes are generally very skinny, and dont last very long. An "F-2" is a little wider, higher powered winds, and will do things like up-root medium trees, break branches and throw them, throw lawn chairs around, and pull up power-lines. "F-3" tornadoes are wider yet, and have winds up to around 60-70 MPH winds. These will destroy mobile homes and small houses, will tear up swing-sets, and will take a trampoline and move it 2 or 3 houses down. "F-4's" are worse yet, destroying homes and small businesses, tearing up trees, leaving yards bear, and tearing up streets. "F-5's" are, well were, the worst tornado recorded. F-5's will take a trampoline and wrap it around a tree a block away. They will leave a path of destruction a mile wide with winds up to 150 MPH. They are deadly, and very hard to go around. They can pick up things from approx. 1/4 a mile away. Until now, this was the highest tornado rating possible. The Greensburg, KS tornado changed this. This tornado was almost 2 miles wide and had winds recorded at 205 MPH. Instead of rating this merely as an F-5 or making a category for F-6, they gave it the rating "EF-5" or "Enhanded Fujita-5." The deadliest tornado on record. Well, here's your "learning" for the day. For more information on tornadoes and what to do during severe weather, visit www.weather.com.

Friends, dont forget to keep the victims in your prayers and thoughts. Donate to facilities helping out with the relief fund! Thanks, and God Bless!

  • 4/25/07

Friends, first, I'd like to thank all of you that helped us reach 500! We thank each and everyone of you, whether you visited once, or visit daily. Thanks, and God Bless.

Also, we would like to extend our thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of the 6 people killed in Texas in last night's storms. We're told that they are all related, and lived in the same house. Keep them in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you.

  • VA Tech

Friends, I know this is a few days late, but I wanted to dedicate this post to the VA Tech Shooting. Please keep the victims, their families, the town, and everyone else tied to this event in your thoughts and prayers. Also, please keep schools and universities across the country in your prayers. These schools have been threatened with copycat "crimes" and even a couple Columbine Shooting style. Thanks, and God Bless Always!

    In Christ Our King,

Michael, Walking In His Grace Staff
