I just got done feeding her so she's pretty content.
Before I fed her, this is what happened:

8:15AM
Noelle is sitting in her Le Cuddler pillow while I'm checking my email.. She starts to get a little fussy, so I go over to her.
Daddy: Hi Noelle. Good morning. It's about time to get breakfast. I'll go get your bottle while you stay here, okay?
Noelle sits staring blankly at me
Daddy: Okay, I'll be right back.
Kiss on the cheek then I take one step out of the room, Noelle starts crying. I come back in and go to her.
Daddy: Noelle.
She stops crying.
Daddy:What's wrong honey? I'm just gonna go get your breakfast. You want to come with daddy?
Noelle smiled a HUGE smile.

That makes all the EARLY EARLY morning wake ups worth it.

Speaking of EARLY EARLY morning wake ups, she has been doing that a lot. She's sleeping in her crib, but wakes up around 2:00 (that's about 3 1/2 hours of sleep) then after being fed, sleeps then wakes up again about 2 hours later. After being fed again, sleeps then wakes up about 1.5/2 hours later. After a little consoling, sleeps for another hour or so. Then gets fed and is pretty much up for the morning. It's a tough life being a parent, but it's the joys seeing her grow and explore that make it worth while.

So this past week was kinda blah. Not too much going on. I got a couple hours overtime for doing some work around the center after hours on Tuesday. I figured since we needed a work day and since Kat was gonna have Noelle with her at POG, I could stay a couple hours. Didn't get as much done as I would have liked, but a little is better than nothing.
Thursday I got to go to my first meeting as an Assistant Site Supervisor. It was a meeting to be sure we were tying in our curriculum with the anecdotal notes we take to the portfolios to the DRDPs I always write about to everything else. It was an okay meeting, but my eyes were KILLING me. Due to a combo of allergies and not enough straight hours of sleep, my eyes were BURNING. Tried eye drops, but they only helped for about 10 seconds.
Friday same thing with my eyes, so I had to take it easy and stay home from Intersect. Kat had worship team practice last nite too, and since Noelle didn't feel like going by herself, there were no Kawaye's at Intersect last nite. We just had a bonding night and when mommy got back, more bonding.
Monday, March 31, 2008

So Noelle is officially 2 months old today.
What did we do to celebrate? Went to church, did a little shopping...that's about it. Noelle Haven is still a huge joy and I am so blessed to have THREE beautiful ladies in my life: Kat and Noelle of course and mom (who will always be with me). Erin, well, like they said in Aristocats: "You're not a lady, you're a sister."

So this past month has been filled with a few memorable moments.
-Noelle smiles and has even laughed for Kat. Once I thought she was gonna laugh for me. She smiled and was inhaling a little and it almost sounded like a laugh...then she sneezed. That's all it was.
-Noelle had a couple days with no poop, but she made up for it in a HUGE way. Actually, a COUPLE of huge ways. Pretty nasty...but I was at work when it happened, so Kat got to soak the clothes and sheets and stuff.
-Kat had a minor scare a couple Sundays ago. She was working out at the
gym when she started some postpartum bleeding. After about 10 hours in
the ER, 2 doctors, 2 nurses and one ultrasound, all was fine. Praise
God Noelle was fine and slept most of the time!
-Noelle is sleeping in her crib now. Not all through the night mind you, but it's baby steps (no pun intended). We have a routine now where she gets a bath, then bottle, then put into her crib. She sleeps about 2-3 hours (2 more than 3), then wakes us up with her "I'M STARVING" cry and I get up as long as it's before 2:00AM. If it's after, Kat lets me sleep so I can be ready for work.
-Noelle is fitting into more of her clothes better. She even fits into 3-month old clothes better. She's no longer drowning in them. The doctor said she hasn't gained that much weight or height (only like 2 pounds and an inch or so), but I'm sure her growth spurt will kick in anytime soon. Of course, I have been waiting for mine to kick in...but I think hers will come sooner.
-The Kawaye's celebrated their first Easter as a family. We went out to lunch with great-grandma, grandpa and some of his friends. That was nice. Here's Noelle in her Easter outfit:

-I was officially offered (and accepted) the Assistant Site Supervisor position at work. I get my own little desk to do the extra work on (have to be in charge of curriculum and some other stuff). I still have to be in ratio with the kids, so I'll still have plenty of fun stories to share.

So that's it for right now. Hope you all had fun reading this. For some reason some of the pictures turned out funky, so the uploaded pics may have her head cut off which is why Kat used her makeup board thingy to post these pics. The others look okay though, so enjoy those too.
Friday, March 28, 2008

So will this entry have any substance or insights into the life of David or fun anecdotes on Noelle? Nope. Well, one.

I am officially the assistant site supervisor at my center. I'll dive into that some other time.

Main reason for this entry: this video.
The guys on KNBR said this was hilarious so I had to watch it for myself. MAAAAAAN am I glad they did. Now being the HUGE Giants fan that I am, it pains me to put anything DODGERS on here...but I am in pain from laughing too hard. I agree with the KNBR crew: this should be played at every Giants/Dodgers games just cuz it's that embarassing for them.

I give to you the 1986 Los Angeles Dodgers.

Saturday, March 01, 2008

So February has officially come and gone. Noelle has one month in the books and Lord willing, many more to come.

She is resting peacefully right now. I have about 24 fabulous things called DRDP's (8 preschool/16 school-age) to be working on (those things I always moan and whine about on here twice a year), so instead of procrastinating and typing up a xanga, I'll do them. I just needed a little break, and this was enough as I need to take advantage of the time Noelle is asleep so my hands can be free to write things up.

Xanga world, TTFN: Ta-Ta For Now!

I'll be back later for more breaks and maybe some actual notes worth noting
Sunday, February 17, 2008

tee-hee-hee-hee

i just pee-pee'd on my daddy's hand! he was changing me and as he was wiping my tooshy dry, i peed. hehehehe that was funny. he had to get a whole new diaper out too since i wet the one he just put under me. hehehe

so yesterday, my dad and mom went out for something called a "delayed valentine's day brunch." whatever that means. i got to hang out with grandma while they ate at a place called southern kitchen. you can read my dad's yelp review here.

last night i spit my binky out of my mouth then made a face like a fishy so my daddy had to get it again. i love playing with my daddy in the middle of the night. it's so fun. i think the best part is seeing daddy retell the story cuz his face looks funnier than mine i think. then again, i can't see my face, but i still like looking at him make a fool out of himself showing my mommy what i looked like.

that reminds me: i got a new binky yesterday. it's a cool one that is shaped more rounded and you can see my mouth through it (at least that's what mommy says...i can't see through the binky when it's in my mouth for obvious reasons). mom and dad bought me two different kind last week: one that angles upward a little and one that's more flat. mommy thought it would be a good idea to get a different one that is better cuz they give it out at other hospitals (how come i didn't get it at kaiser? what the nuts?). i wish mom and dad hadn't spent their money on those other two kind cuz those ones i like, but this new one is sooooooo much better. they should have bought this one first. a word to the wise out there: buy the kind my mommy and daddy got me if the hospital doesn't give it to you. it's so much cooler.

i went to church today. got to meet a couple people i didn't meet last time. one boy mommy says is a couple months older than me was too busy to talk to me, but maybe next sunday i'll get to meet him. he looked kinda cute, so we'll see. if i could cross them, i'd have my fingers crossed right now.

i guess that's it for now. bye bye
-noelle haven kawaye
Friday, February 15, 2008

So Noelle is now 16 days old. When she was born, she weighed 7lbs, 3oz. At her check up on Monday, she weighed 7lbs,2oz. She lost an ounce. But that's actually good cuz she dropped a lot of weight (like 1/2 a pound) after birth. So she's gaining weight and Kat and I are both losing sleep. Luckily Noelle's grandma is here from Texas helping us out. She's been here since the 5th. The three of us take turns at night caring for Noelle as she of course isn't sleeping through the night. I'm usually up till around 1:00-2:00AM, then Kat is up for a couple hours until her mom is up around 4:30-5:00AM. Noelle's grandpa will be here from Texas on Sunday to help out as well. Both will be leaving on the 21st, so that kinda sux.

Losing sleep is not good for the body and it has taken its toll on all three of us. Earlier this week Kat's mom had some stomach thing and she was letting things fly from both ends (ewwww). Kat had the chills yesterday and I had a 101 fever yesterday. I slept almost all night while Kat and her mom took care of Noelle. Usually I am up till 1:00-2:00AM and then sleep so I can be up for work, but not last night. Last night I came home, soaked my aching muscles in a tub filled with some weird Japanese green thingy that helps soothe aching muscles (yes, I take baths....nothing wrong with that) and then slept from about 7:00PM-8:00AM. I told Kat to wake me at midnight so I could help for a couple hours, but her and her mom both said I shouldn't touch Noelle....grrrr, but they're right. So I slept. Only time I got up was to do a number 1 and a number 3 a few times. Kat is feeling better and so am I.

The only thing keeping from working today was the fact that I was "running" every hour or so. I volunteered to come in to work today from 2:00-2:30 (to pick up my kinders since my co-worker was out sick too and my boss didn't know where the classrooms are) and also to close 5:30-6:00PM so she could have her night out with her husband as planned. I asked her if she wanted me to and she just said "I wouldn't ask you to, so it's basically up to how you're feeling." Her and I are alike in that we don't ask for help, but when it's offered, we still don't really take it up unless it's pressed on us or if we're in a real bind. So I get to work at 5:30 tonite...so about an hour work for today.

All is good with the Kawaye household now and I'm gonna get ready for a fun weekend. Delayed Valentine's lunch tomorrow, back to youth group for me, back to teaching Sunday School, seeing me father-in-law, hangin with a couple friends on Monday...fun weekend indeed!
Tuesday, February 05, 2008

hi, my name is noelle haven. my daddy is letting me put my hands on the keyboard so i thought i would make the best of this opportunity. please forgive any grammatical or spelling or punctuation mark errors. after all, i am only 5 days old (i'll be 6 in a few hours!!).

so far life outside the womb is interesting. when i was born, my daddy got strep throat that night. he wore a mask which looked rather hilarious on him, but i guess that's how much he loves me: my health over his looks. my daddy's so cool. (he told me to write that last part)

when i was born, my great-grandma and grandpa came to see me first. my great-grandma is so funny because she was telling the other new mommy in the room how she already has four great-grandsons, but i'm her first great-granddaughter. the funny part is the mommy spoke spanish and just nodded and smiled when my great-grandma was telling her this. hehehehehehehehehehe i'll have to remember that technique for later on in life: nod and smile.

after that my auntie anne and auntie esther came to see me. they brought my mommy and daddy chinese food. it smelled really good. i also got to meet patty, lila, monica and her daughter rebecca from soon-to-be my church and uncle matt and uncle darren from intersect. they were talking about something called "passion" and also about something called a "double-double". i also got to meet two very tall people: my uncle anh and auntie eachan. i hope i get to be as tall as one of them. i thought my mom and dad were big, but then i saw those two and now i am going to dream bigger! the last person to see me at the hospital was pastor harrison. he's nice and he prayed for me and my parents just before i got pricked for a sample of my blood.

since leaving the hospital, i have been back 3 times to get blood drawn because i have something called jaundice. that is not very fun. the nice thing is i have been able to meet three nice doctors and one of them is going to be my pediatrician. the one my mommy and daddy have chosen is super nice and i like her a lot. my mom said that her picture on the kaiser website looks like a glamor shot. i don't know what that is, but i guess it's a good thing.

today i got to meet a different doctor who is a lactation consultant. i haven't really been able to drink from my mommy since it is kind of difficult to get milk out. i don't like having to do so much work to get fed. she taught my mommy how to feed me better and i drank and drank and drank thanks to her help. it also helps that my mom is giving me more milk faster now.

i like the clothes i have. they are a bit big, but mommy and daddy says i'll grow into them soon. they bought me a couple outfits that are for "premies" and they fit good right now. i like these ones, but soon i'll fit good into the ones that my soon-to-be friend alyssa joy gave me. i also got some from my daddy's work from a mom who just had a baby a few months ago. i guess her son grew out of them so i got them. free is good...at least that's what i keep hearing my daddy say.

i have a blanket i use sometimes that is white and has the words "SFVHC
loves Baby Kawaye" on it. my daddy got it when he spoke at their
church youth retreat called godswilla. i like it cuz it's nice and
warm on those cold windy days and at night when mom and dad are trying
desperately to get me to sleep.

i haven't been to the church yet. mom said i was too little to go to a place with lots of people getting too close so i didn't get to go. i heard mommy saying maybe next sunday. i can hardly wait!!!!! i have already met a few really nice people who either visited me when i was first born or came by the apartment to bring by meals for my mom and dad to eat. my aunties janice, phyllis, miki and makiko and also my uncle mike (auntie miki's husband) and uncle walter (auntie janice's husband) came by with really good food. i didn't eat any of it, but judging by the way my mom and dad inhaled the food, i would have to take a shot in the dark and say they really like all the food. i hear i get to meet one of the pastor's wife at my soon-to-be church since she's coming today to bring by more food for mommy and daddy. daddy keeps saying "we are so blessed." he says this because of all the nice people at the church and also friends he says are from pog, moogle and intersect. i don't know what that means exactly, but i hear i have lots of aunties and uncles waiting to spoil me. i'm pretty sure that's a good thing.

daddy keeps taking pictures of me. i hope i look good. my mommy gave me my first bath today. that was nice and i am now all clean and ready for more visitors! i got to meet my uncle derek tonite. he was in the area having dinner with someone named delbert and came to see me.

i enjoy partying all nite long. mom and dad have a routine where one sleeps while the other tries to get me to sleep. sometimes it works because, to be perfectly honest, i pity them. they look tired, so i compromise: i get my kicks for a little while and i let them sleep for a little while. my favorite game to play with them is when i poop or pee in a diaper they just changed. hehehe it's funny to see their reaction.

well, i guess that's all from me. i'm off to go party away my parent's youth!!!!!
Friday, February 01, 2008

I would like to introduce you all to Noelle Haven Kawaye
Born on January 30th at 5:40AM
She was 19.5 inches and weighed in at 7lbs, 3oz

The proud papa

She was in pain, but didn't think it was actual labor pains since it was a week early and at her doctor's appt earlier in the day, she was told she wasn't dilated at all. We timed them for an hour, but Kat still insisted it was no big deal. She told me to go ahead and sleep...so I did. I wake up with her telling me, "David, the contractions are getting worse, should I go to the hospital?" The advisors at the hospital had told her that since it's the first baby and since she wasn't dilated when the doctor checked, it will just be a waste of time to come in to the hospital that early. She called twice, both got the same answers. But we decided to go just in case. We made it there at 2:30am, Kat was carried up with a wheelchair. Once we arrived at the maternity ward, Kat was sent to a room where she was hooked up with monitors for her contractions and baby's heartbeat. I parked the car by the emergency entrance (it's the only after hour entrance), so I had to re-park my car. When I came back, I saw a band of doctors/nurses around Kat, then someone told me that the baby's heartbeat had dropped significantly and they didn't like what they saw, so if it happens again, they'll have to perform an emergency c-section. The doctor told us Kat was already dilated at 4cm. Then Kat was wheeled away to the birthing room and they continued to monitor the baby's heartbeat. The anesthesia doctor started explaining to us what kinda of anesthesia procedure may be performed if they had to do the emergency c-section. They asked if she wanted an epidural and of course Kat said yes. The guy came prepping her, but had to wait for a nurse to oversee the procedure. Since there were other people giving birth at the same, the nurses were busy. When the nurses were finally all set, Kat was dilated to 7cm and the nurse said she would check back in a little while. After just a little while, the nurse said she was at 9cm and it was too late for the epidural. It was about 4:30AM
So Kat was a trooper as she was given a little something to take the edge off the pain. It was no epidural but it was good enough. The mid-wife that was delivering Noelle said that Noelle had pooped inside and was possibly sucking down that stuff (EWWWWWW), so I wasn't going to be able to cut the umbilical cord. As Kat was pushing, I could start to see the head. After what seemed like an eternity (and to Kat I'm sure it felt like much longer), Noelle's head was starting to come out. The doctor had to snip a little to help stretch Kat's opening and then had to snip one more time. The head still wasn't coming out, so they used a little vacuum/suction cup thingy to help get Noelle out. She was born at 5:40AM.

Please keep her in your prayers though, cuz she might have jaundice so we have to keep an extra eye on how well she eats and everything.
As long as all goes well, we welcome you all to come hang out and meet Noelle Haven in person at our apartment. Just give us fair warning before you come. hahaha

====EDIT====
And since people keep asking, I'll give the answer: We both agreed on the name Noelle from near the beginning. Haven was a word Kat saw when reading the Bible one day and thought it would make for a nice name. I agree.
Tuesday, January 29, 2008

So I started my last entry with WHOA!
I guess this deserves a HUGE WHOA! since it's been SOOOOOO long since I last updated on here.
So wow, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's and my birthday have all passed since I last wrote. Uhhmmm...
Thanksgiving was nice. Black Friday shopping on Thanksgiving Day was a HUGE bonus!!
Christmas was cool. Got some neat stuff (CURSES and the BANG! Bullet!!! top the list). Got my wife a "small and flat" present (I'm sure you all have read about it on her xanga already).
New Year's I had strep throat, so stayed in instead of going out to party. Drank my first bubbly drink...yum-o. New Year's Day I drank Coke (OUCH!)
Began my NO ICE CREAM FOR 2008 with my two high schoolers.

Went to a funeral for a great man at our church. He died on the 13th due to cancer. Scary how life can be taken away like that.

Thought I had RSV (a respiratory virus) turns out it was just the flu, but I got out of work for 3 days last week. A one day work week isn't that bad. Too bad I wouldn't get paid as nicely if I did that a lot.

Celebrated my 30th birthday. I had a party on the 19th since there was no youth group (I missed WinterVision for the first time in like 11 years!!!). On my birthday (Saturday) Kat and I just hung out doing a few small things and then we got a cake for after youth group. Kat got a cool baseball themed one! Really nifty!

We found out why a kinder that hasn't been coming for two weeks hasn't been coming. He fell off a slide at a park a couple Fridays ago. His grandpa took him in for x-rays and it turns out they found a growth in his arm. They're gonna be doing an MRI on him tomorrow to see what it is. Please pray for this little boy named "E" and for his mom and grandpa.

So I have been contemplating whether or not I'll be ready to be a dad when the time comes (and that time will be coming soon-ish). I know I'll be fine, but I always worry. I love having a God that helps us out and calms all our fears. Having a loving wife isn't bad either hehehe
Now onto the fun of waiting it all out. Kat started her maternity leave today and has baked a banana bread on Sunday and made oatmeal cookies today and is baking some more goodies tomorrow. I love this whole nesting phase! MMM-MMM-MMM!!!
Thursday, November 15, 2007

WHOA!

It's been a while since I last updated.

Many things have been happening.

Hmmm...what have I not written about over the last 4 weeks.

We had Conference week at work. The school we are on the campus of was having conferences so the kids were let out an hour earlier which means they were with us an hour longer. We were able to make it through that okay.

Kat's belly has gotten bigger...but that's obvious why. Mine has gotten a touch bigger...I call it sympathy weight. hahaha Thank goodness for soy! Kat made soy milk and used the left over squished up soy beans in meat patties and curry and other stuff. MAN that stuff is good for cleaning out your system.

Last weekend was Beautiful Day with CBCSJ as we went to a children's shelter. That was an eye-opening experience. Got to run a program for junior high/high school kids. It was great seeing Intersect (as well as some people from 2:42 and the Children's ministry) working well together. I was "in charge" of our group and found out what I have known for a while now I guess: I'm more suited for leading games than organizing a group. I can do it, but I'm better and in "my zone" when I'm leading games.

Had our annual In-Service meeting on Monday. You remember going to school and having a day off cuz of In Service days? Well, they are not fun. Actually, this one wasn't so bad. It was at DeAnza like we have had a couple times in the past. It was boring at first, but it picked up and I have to say this was the best one I've ever been to. This was In-Service number 5 for me and easily the best one. It was just more easy-going and interactive and interesting.

I found these two stories online and thought they were pretty funny. Read and leave comments with your thoughts.
********************

SYDNEY (AFP) - Santas in Australia's largest city have been told
not to use Father Christmas's traditional "ho ho ho" greeting because
it may be offensive to women, it was reported Thursday.

Sydney's Santa Clauses have instead been instructed to say "ha ha ha" instead, the Daily Telegraph reported.

One disgruntled Santa told the newspaper a recruitment firm warned him
not to use "ho ho ho" because it could frighten children and was too
close to "ho", a US slang term for prostitute.

"Gimme a break," said Julie Gale, who runs the campaign against sexualising children called Kids Free 2B Kids.

"We are talking about little kids who do not understand that "ho, ho,
ho" has any other connotation and nor should they," she told the
Telegraph.

"Leave Santa alone."

A local spokesman for the US-based Westaff recruitment firm said it was
"misleading" to say the company had banned Santa's traditional greeting
and it was being left up to the discretion of the individual Santa
himself.

**********************

LOS ANGELES - A police detective said a man accused of taking
nearly a half-million dollars in a string of bank holdups claimed he
gave out most of the money on Los Angeles' Skid Row.

Thirty-two-year-old
Julio Cesar Rodriguez of Arleta was charged earlier this month with 14
counts of robbery and attempted robbery. He also faces separate drug
and weapons charges. He appeared in Superior Court Tuesday but had his
arraignment postponed.

A call to Rodriguez's attorney, Howard R. Levine, was not immediately returned Wednesday.

Rodriguez was arrested this month by narcotics investigators.
Detectives looking into the bank robberies said they linked him to a
bank job by DNA evidence obtained from a bandanna that a crook wore
over his face and left at the scene of a holdup in Van Nuys.

Police Detective Ursula Guillory said she had been investigating for
months. Following Rodriguez's arrest, she asked him what he did with
the loot.

"He said, 'I spent a little on myself, then I went down to Skid Row and handed it out,'" Guillory said.

"He was very cooperative and said he wanted to be responsible,"
Guillory said. "He said, 'I don't want to waste your time, detective.'"
