| Triathlon CompleteOn Saturday morning I finished the triathlon. I did much better than I even expected. It was a blast.
The race started with the swim and about half way through, I got this huge boost of confidence, when I realized I was tired at all. I just kept thinking how glad I was I had gone out swimming as much as I had (10 min on the swim).
Getting out of the water and seeing Cara and my dad, gave me my next boost, to get going on the bike. I realized on the bike, that my pace was way to slow to really compete. While my stamina was fine, I just wasn't able to keep pace with the other bikers. Still when the 16.6 miles was coming to an end, I was actually surprised at how quickly it finished. (although I averaged a slightly embarrassing 16.5 mph)
Getting off the bike was hard, my body wasn't ready for it. I took a swig of water that was offered me by a boy scout and immediately started throwing up. 3 times to be exact. It wasn't the start that I was hoping for with the run.
After I gathered myself I really started to feel much better again, and when I finished my first mile, I was actually really amazed at how quickly it went. The second mile was more of the same, but I realized my body was really hitting its breaking point.
The third and fourth miles were brutal. With under half a mile left my body started to break down. Both of my thighs were cramping pretty bad, and I started throwing up again (I do it way too much!). I thought I was going to have to walk the rest of it, but after a slow job for about 100 more yards, I realized that I was basically at the finish, so I gave a good sprint to the finish line so Cara would think I was that fast the whole time! I averaged 8:30 miles which is honestly about a minute better than I expected.
I crossed the finish line at 1 hour 42 minutes. Which beat my goal of under two hours by quite a bit. I finished 9th of 20 in my age group (not bad for 7 weeks of training), and more than anything, I think I got the bug to improve. We'll see if it sticks.
Two days later my thighs are still super tight, and my left foot is in a lot of pain, but I am really proud of myself. There was something really gratifying about setting a goal, working hard, and then actually doing it. It felt great.
If my foot is broken... I probably won't do this again... but if it isn't... at least two next year!

| tri updateIt has been way too long since I have given my update on how my
training is going. Life is so busy right now, but it is really crunch
time. Our race is in 2 and a half weeks.
Two weeks ago I had
an awesome week. I went on the best run of my life with Matt, we ran 6
miles and ran really solid. That was the longest run of my life up to
this point.
I followed that day by swimming one mile... which was definitely a personal record of mine.
A
couple days ago I went on a killer bike ride, I got to Gaston and it
started pouring down rain right when I got there. So for 30 minutes, I
was absolutely soaked. I felt like a real athlete. Instead of calling
it a workout when I got off the bike, I ran for 20 minutes afterwards.
All
in all, I am in such better shape than I was when I started. I wish I
was a little quicker with my runs, but other than that I am doing real
well.
There ya go! | | |
| Edna ParkerEdna Parker who lives in Shelbyville (home of the world's tallest woman) became the oldest living woman today. She is 114 years old. Her secret:
She said in an interview this spring that others would live longer "if they weren't so anxious."
Listen to Edna, stop being so anxious. Everything is fine.

| La Bamba's RunI did run Friday for about 30 minutes and was able to run again today.
I tried to swim, but both pools were closed.
This
was my longest run so far. I'm not sure how far it was (i'm sure Phil
could tell me ((mapmyrun.com)))... but I ran for 40 minutes, which is
my best so far.
I felt terrible. Much worse than on Thursday, it
was very hot, and my breath and hands smelled of LaBambas. I learned a
valuable lesson: wash your hands and brush your teeth before you run if
you just ate mexican food.
I was happy that I made it all 40
minutes. Running is such a mental challenge, you brain goes crazy on
you during the run, and to overcome when it keeps telling you to stop
10 minutes early is a great feeling.
I think I have a strong week of training ahead of me.
Oh... I have already lost between 6-8 pounds. | | |
| The Double DayI missed an update. I had my best workout yet on Tuesday. I biked for
about 50 minutes. I'm not sure how fast you are suppose to bike, I
think I am still going pretty slow. My miles right now are about 3:45.
Biking when you go slow is fun though, because you never get tired!
After
I biked I headed to Tuhey Pool, which I was quite nervous about, and
swam. It was the debut of my Jammers (which are like bike short
speedos). I think the people at the pool really enjoyed my suit (I got
a lot of whistles).
I swam pretty well. It was a 50 meter pool,
so it was much harder. I did pretty well. Swam the 500 meters, and then
took a small break and did another 200.
I finished the Triathlon, by mowing. I did that really slow.
Hoping to run today, if I get a chance.
