You can help. When you decide to bring a pet into your life, give an SPCA animal a home. Don’t go to a pet store. Don’t go to a breeder. Choose to save a life. Take home a friend who will love you for life! Note: The animals in the adoption shelter will remain there until suitable homes are found for them. T here is no time limit on their stay!

| SPCA animal rescues! The Scaly Anteater (also known as a Pangolin) pictured here was rescued by SPCA staff from Sembawang Road/Canberra Road junction after receiving a call from a concerned member of the public at around 2.a.m. one morning in June. She was handed over to the Singapore Zoo in the days following, and we have since learned that she is an endangered species and has been named Tinkerbelle!

Surrendering an animal to the SPCA

Around 1,000 animals come to the SPCA every month! That's an average of 35 animals each day.
Because of limited facilities, resources, finances and adoptive homes, only 10 per cent of these animals have a chance at adoption. Another 7 to 10% are reunited with their owners through SPCA's Lost & Found service or released (such as wild birds). The others are humanely euthanised.
So please, before surrendering an animal to the SPCA: - Have you tried to re-home the animal? Ask friends and relatives if they can help. Or try taking out an ad in the newspaper classified section and putting notices on bulletin boards at supermarkets and vet clinics. Emails and posts on the Internet (on websites dealing with animal welfare for example) can be effective ways of finding the animal a new home. For contact details of animal organizations and websites, please go to www.spca.org.sg and click on 'links'. - Be aware that any animal surrendered to the SPCA may be put to sleep due to our limited resources. If you are not comfortable with the idea that your surrendered animal may be euthanised within 24 hours of it being turned in, please find an alternative to surrendering it to the SPCA. - Are all family members aware that the animal is going to be surrendered to the SPCA? The decision to surrender should not be made until it has been discussed with family members. - Changing your mind 24 hours a fter surrender maybe too late to reclaim the animal. Please help us avoid the SPCA from becoming a dumping ground for unwanted animals! There are alternatives to merely discarding an unwanted animal at the doors of the SPCA!
Make a donation to help raise funds The SPCA is not a member of the Community Chest and does not receive any grant from the government. If you would like to make a donation direct to the SPCA you can send a cheque (payable to 'SPCA' and crossed) to 31 Mt. Vernon Road, Singapore 368054 Your name, address, IC/Fin number and telephone number should be included so that the SPCA can send you a tax exempt receipt.
Care to make an online donation to help us raise funds?... Click here The Online Donation Portal is a service provided by the National Council of Social Service.
If you want to make a regular monthly donation to the SPCA, please fill out the GIRO application form which can be downloaded from the spca websiteand once completed, forwarded to the SPCA.

| OWNING A PET IS A LIFETIME COMMITMENT.
We know you adore these pictures, when the animals are young and cute...

...But what if they become old and ugly?

The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals takes in over l,000 unwanted animals every month. This is made up of cats, dogs and rabbits, guinea pigs and hamsters. Many of these animals had owners who gave them up because no one had the time to take care of them. Some of these pets were even abandoned on the street to fend for themselves.
Owning a pet is a lifetime of commitment (up to ten years or more if you own a dog or a cat) involving considerable responsibility. The decision to acquire one therefore, should be made by the whole family. Without full agreement by everyone, the pet could end up unwanted.
Puppies and kittens are so adorable, it is easy to understand why adults and children alike would be attracted to them. Unfortunately their cute looks are often a disadvantage, because people purchase them without consideration and the knowledge on how to take proper care of them.

Nope this is not photoshop manipulated. A female polar bear named Pelusa turned purple after she was given a special treatment to clear up a skin condition. This has attracted crowds at the Mendoza City Zoo in Argentina. The fur has returned to normal after a few days.

Dolphins has taken a pink hue in the Pear River Delta situated between Hong Kong and Macau. It is not known why they are pink in colour but several assumptions include the lack of natural predators or the pink colour is a byproduct of blushing to regulate body temperature.
