Craft project number 5!  It's a Democrat (probably makeup) bag!  It's pretty small (about 9x9), but this would work pretty well for my makeup!  I think I'll probably take this one on my trip instead of the EIR bag.  I love it!  It turned out way better than I expected and it was way easier than I thought it would be!

Look at my awesome fabric!  Look at my awesome bag...with a zipper!  I'm so glad this turned out well!

It's a good size for makeup, toothbrushes, etc.  I hear the Hastings in Carlsbad is having a sale on Doctor Who items...maybe it'll turn into a little Doctor carrying case!  LOL!  No, I'd have to make something special for that...cause I'm a dork.

It's lined with blue, of course!  ZIPPER!FTW!!!  HA HA!  This makes me way too happy.  XD  Oh, most of this pictures like this were taken in my bathroom....It's got the best light, I swear!

It also helps that I've got an AMAZING sewing mentor to help me out!

Craft project number 4!!!  Another skirt!  I am REALLY happy with this one.  I love the feel of the fabric.  And it went together well.  I made this to mend my poor heart after finding out Who isn't coming back until 2010!  *sobs uncontrollably*  I also can't hear the word "binary" said with a British accent without crying a little.  AnyWHOs, on to the (OMG Doctor!2010) skirt!

Polka dots!  Black ones!  (And yes, that is PerfectTen on my apartment door.)  I like that I used more material for this one.  It makes it hang better, I think.  And the rows are mostly straight!

Admire my mad hemming skills!  This hem is STRAIGHT!  (at least from this view!  *giggle*  Actually, it is mostly good.)

Yep!  The waist is straight, too!  YAYZ for ME!

What should I make out of this awesome fabric?  I was considering a skirt.

Third sewing project of the week!  A small bag (I plan on using it for non-liquid toiletries on the plane)!

100_1370

I made it with some of the Eddie Izzard Red (EIR) fabric I had leftover from my luggage tag.  I also put some crafty plastic grid stuff on the shorts sides and bottom for some support, I still wanted it to be pretty flexable on the long sides.

Here's a shot before I had figured out what to do with the top.  Turn out, that determined if this would be awesome or just okay.  It's really just okay, but I do like it.

(Like my makeshift ironing board?)

Here is how it ended up.  I decided just to use buttons on the top, (I tried snaps first, but it failed and I don't have any zippers on hand, nor did I want to tackle one of those today!)

I think that the bag will serve the purpose it was made for anyways.  I think it was definately worth the experience for this and it's totally useable!

Cost of Materials:

Eddie Izzard Red fabric - $1.97/ 5 feet, 1.5 feet used: $0.60

Black fabric for lining - On hand: $0.00

Crafty Plastic Grid Thingy - $1.87/6 sheets, .4 sheets used: $0.13

Thread - On hand: $0.00

Buttons - $0.62/4 buttons, 2 buttons used: $0.31

Total Cost: $1.04

Total Time: 3 hours exactly (well, give or take 5 minutes)

I have completed my second sewing project this week!  I have made....a luggage tag!  Yes, it was a silly thing to make, but I get silly ideas from time to time.

100_1327

I thought the strap would be the hardest thing to do, so I tackled it first.  It was actually one of the easiest!  I like the fabric.  I think I'll call it Eddie Izzard Red.  It totally looks like a fabric he would wear.  I am also glad I was able to use the black thread since it was right next to the machine.  I didn't have to go looking for it or fill a bobbin!

However, most everything went downhill from here.

Here's the back of my finished tag.  It looks a little weird in the photo, but that back really isn't that bad.

If you ever get the notion to sew vinyl...don't.  It's a pain.  I think I know why vinyl clothing is closely associated with masochism...it's because you have to be a masochist to sew with it more than once!

I just realized that my bag is TARDIS blue!  I think I'll have to spruce up the bag some more.  LOL!  I think I would be crazy to do this again.  I started working on it around noon, took a break to eat and watch Who, and then finished around 11 PM.  All this for such a little item.  My skirt took nowhere near this long!  At least it was some good experience in what NOT to do with vinyl, (like my machine hates it so I hand-sewed it), and paying attention to the little details on something this small.  I do have to say, that the having the Doctor on it makes it look even better!

Cost of Materials:

Eddie Izzard Red fabric - $1.97/ 5 feet, 1 foot used: $0.40

Vinyl - $0.66/5 feet, 1 foot used: $0.15

Thread - On hand: $0.00

Snaps and pliers - $7.94 (I wanted to get the pliers anyways)

Total Cost: $8.49 ($0.55 minus the pliers)

Total Time: ALL DAMN DAY
