Late at night (10pm) we heard them say flooding in Chickasaw County so we got worried about Katie's house (since they are in Mexico) So we went down to check - it was fine. The next morning the Ft Atkinson bridge was gone, we had been on it. (I think we were sitting on that spot about 11:30 pm- Ack!) By Ft Atkinson Where's the train bridge?
Flood waters are receding in Decorah, but Cedar Falls & Waterloo are worried. David is fine for now though.

| Christmas was crazy, busy fun! Katie & Jason & the kids came all Christmas Eve day and Lianne, David & Mischa came in the evening. There was sledding, games, food, and present opening. They all spent the night. David picked up Cheyenne & Hayden in the morning and we all went to Mom & Dad's for brunch. Everyone had a great time. We love having everyone home, but boy is it noisy! We managed with one bathroom though! Next year we need to put a bathroom in downstairs. I'm enjoying the peace at home today. One of my last days to be at home before tax season ensues. *sigh* I love being home. I love our new home. Its so cozy. Can't wait until tax season is over and spring is here so we can start painting and planting and making it more ours! Yeah! PS we have a nice guest room if anyone is in the area and wants to stay! | | |
| Sold - its ours!
Looks like we'll be having a white Chrismas in our new home!
| Hey all! We moved on the weekend after Thanksgiving to our new home! Trying to get settled in and decorate for Christmas at the same time as hubby is sick. Not fun! We love the home though. I'll be planning garden and orchard all winter. Even though we are in town we are on the edge and have 2/3 acre lot. There is also a buried pit which we are thinking is a root cellar (needs a new door so we didn't go down yet). Has concrete steps and a vent pipe. The realtor called it a bomb shelter. *grin* Also a cistern beside the house - if it doesn't leak I am thinking of using it for gray water- have to put a better cover on it if we're keeping it though. Its a big old farm house with a little bitty barn with loft out back. We are just so excited to own our own place finally. So will be thinking of alternative energy ideas to do also. We have hot water heat which I am loving. Anyway, just wanted to share our excitement! Melanie | | |
