hello there.
hope this finds you all very well. first off, i'm apologizing once again for my lack of communication with you guys. there just hasn't been much to update you on. but more importantly, i can't even begin to tell you how much my heart goes out to all the victims of hurricane katrina in the gulf coast. for some reason i haven't been able to manage to tear myself from the tv--- as if watching the constant stream of coverage will somehow help make it all better. not to sound like a broken record, but i recommend visiting http://www.redcross.org and making any kind of donation. seriously.

eek. there's no way to make a smooth transition on to something much "fluffier".....so i'm jumping in head first. Smiler

record: yes, i'm still recording. i had to take a break for "american dreamz" and just got back in the studio this week. so far, i have 12 songs recorded. my goal is record around 20 so that i have my pick of the best. here's hoping that actually happens. right now i'm most excited about the music i was lucky enough to write with someone i idolize (lori mckenna). if you haven't checked out her music....PLEASE GO TO ITUNES and do yourself a HUGE favor. everything from "bittertown" is exceptional and the song "beautiful man" from "the kitchen tapes" is beyond breathtaking. anyway, i flew to boston to write with her in may and was such a nervous geeky fan! she's amazing, her music is amazing, and i feel lucky to have a little piece of that on my record. Smiler

films-
"american dreamz" wrapped about 2 weeks ago. it was probably one of the best experiences i've ever had making a movie. i loved everyone--cast and crew--and again feel lucky to have been a part of something so cleverly crafted. i also found out that i have a hard time not laughing on camera at some of the other actors. it got pretty bad lol. anyway, before i really had a chance to relax and enjoy a bit of time off, i hopped on to another project. i started richard kelly's new movie "southland tales" last week and while i've been slightly confused at the whole thing, i've been enjoying playing a slightly crazy character again. can't wait for you guys to see both films!

etc---
thanks for watching "entourage". it was a fun run.Smiler a little odd to essentially be portraying a fictionalized version of myself...but hey, why not??? and stop going on and on about my hair. it's not like i did it. take it up with the hair and makeup people. geeez. can't a girl who's trying to grow her hair out catch a break?? and ps: yes, i now have long blond hair. it was initially for "american dreamz" and now for "southland tales". it's kinda cool, kinda annoying. Smiler

favorites:
tv--
you should know that tivo is my life. i guess most reality shows suck me in. right now, i'm really in to the real world austin and (eeek) laguna beach. however, i'm completely obsessed with "the comeback". yah, yah, yah, i'm in the minority but she's just genius. and i can't even talk about the "six feet under" finale. the most moving piece of tv maybe ever......

anyway....i'll come back on soon to fill you in on new happenings. Smiler thanks guys.

xoxo,
mm

I'm HERE! Okay, so I guess I shouldn't make any FULL BLOWN promises but I have turned a new leaf in the past few weeks and realize the ongoing importance of keeping this place current... I have begun trying by posting some pics of my recent trip to Japan which was hilarious and an absolute blast! The show was amazing and I got to FINALLY play all NEW material (MY OWN!) I have never had more fun on stage and am so ready to go into the studio and get this record going! I'm going to start around June 10 or so here in L.A and will work hard on it around a film that I will be shooting in July here in L.A. I should be able to talk about the movie and details as soon as the rigamarole and business "stuff" is taken care of... I'm really excited about that, though, as well as two others that are in the pipeline for later this year. Please give me your feedback on anything new you guys want to see on my site (yes, other than more current postings from yours truly!) More pics are coming! Hope you are all well and enjoying life!

ok, ok, ok...it's been about forever and 2 days since i've last posted. why? good question. i guess i can attribute a lot of that to sheer laziness. plus, i kind of feel like i only want to post when i have something to say. but please know that i do come on and read your messages almost daily. so here's a brief run down of what's happening.

1. RECORD----i'm still writing and going in to the studio in the next month or so. still figuring out who's going to produce it. i know that some of you (*cough cough*) will be scoffing at the fact that i haven't started yet. well, calm down.Smiler it NEEDS to be right and it NEEDS to be the best it can be. this takes time of course. i've been fortunate enough to collaberate with lots of super-talented people (sometimes it works, other times it doesn't...but it's all fruitful in my book). i had a blast singing some new stuff in tokyo---my band rocks! anyway, please bear with me and i promise that your patience will be worth it.

2. MOVIES--
it would be a pretty packed summer just attempting to start and complete a record, but i'm never satisfied until my plate is REALLY full. i'm thrilled to be working on "american dreamz"! i'm a huge fan of all involved (paul weitz, hugh grant, dennis quaid, etc...) i think we start filming in july here in la. later in the summer, i believe "personal shopping" might happen in nyc. there are also a few great indie films that are lingering around as possibilities in early fall. i'll be sure to keep you updated.

3. ETC......
i had a wonderful 21st bday! thank you for your well-wishes and sweet messages Smiler. celebrating my bday in tokyo was exciting enough but adding another party in la with a room full of my favorite people was over the top. i hope to have some cool pics up on the site soon. oh! i've also been shooting the hbo show "ENTOURAGE". you hafta support the show as the new season starts on june 5th!! my episodes don't air until late july i believe (i'm doing 5 in all). the cast and crew have been so welcoming to me---i'm sad that tomorrow is my last day Frowner. anyway, beyond that, i've just been hanging with friends and enjoying the gorgeous weather in la. hope this finds you all well and i'll check in soon.

xoxo,
mm

ps: here are some current favorites:

music-- "beautiful man" by lori mckenna (she's one of my favorite artists of all time and any song off of any of her records is an excellent choice)

films-- "crash". incredibly poignant and well executed on all ends.

tv show-- "late night with conan o'brien". it's a tivo must-have. his sense of humor never fails to crack me up. i do miss the walker texas ranger lever. Frowner

beverage-- soy green tea iced blended (from coffee bean). it could be the greatest treat ever created.

jeans-- GRASS JEANS are the absolute best. super comfy and loooooong. finally. (they look even better with an mblem tshirt---hehe) www.grassla.com

american idol contestant-- bo bice. i really like his style. but he SHOULD NEVER flat iron his hair again---bad idea. i kinda think carrie underwood will win though.

friends-- jane and ross. my 2 best friends in the whole wide world. i love them Smiler.

the end....................

alas, i have returned. Smiler
well, well, well. it's been quite some time since i've stopped by to say hello and i figured it was an appropriate time, as i'm suffering from jet-lag and have run out of episodes of both "sex and the city" and "da ali g show".......anyway, hi!!! i'm writing to you from london, where i am for the next week before jetting across the world to the land down under. i really hope the movie translates well and people enjoy it here......it's been so long since i've done any sort of promo in the uk.....i have a lot to look forward to over the next few days. on top of movie-related work, i'm going to be writing with another songwriter while i'm here......SHOCK, HORROR! i know some of you have gone as far as to assume that i've been living quite a jet-setting, leisurely lifestyle as of late.....and you'd be right. with the exception of the jet-setting part.....not really me. Smiler however, i have been taking it easy at home and have really enjoyed getting to know la, make some new friends, and adjust to a less-hectic life over the summer. and of course that meant not always being by my computer......so sue me! jk. it's truly been time well-spent, as i've learned so much about myself and have been putting a solid effort into writing for the first time over the past few months. this album is too important for me to just "make" and "release". it's not going to come out until it's right. and believe me, i'm hoping sooner rather than later. i've collaberated with some fantastic people and will continue to do so until the writing process is complete. oh and fyi: i didn't write the song "hey" that plays when you open the site.....it's a CRAPPY demo of a song my friend james renald wrote. anyway.....no movies on the home front anytime soon.....gots to wait for the right thing to come along. until then, i'm content to work on this record. hope this finds you all well and i'll update you guys soon.....

mm

ps: if any of you live in or will be visiting nyc anytime soon....PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE do yourself a favor and check out my friend mary louise's play "reckless". not only do i think she is the coolest/most amazing person ever, she rocks it in this show too.

guys,
eek! sorry it's been awhile since i've said hello. i wish i could blame it on some insanely hectic schedule, but i've been kind of a lazy bum recently. inbetween watching some wonderful films, hanging with some new friends, and going to the occasional meeting, i've been writing a bunch with my friend james (who is *amazing* by the way) and i'm really excited to find the right producer, band, etc...and get working on the record for real. beyond that, nothing much is happening in my world. i will check back in with some news soon.....
xoxo,
mm

ps: some of my FAVORITE movies of the summer that you *MUST* check out.....GO NOW!!!! all 3 are genius in their own right. Smiler

1. garden state
2. napoleon dynamite
3. maria full of grace
