A step-by-step guide to parallel park your car (The S method)

Step 1: Find a Space

Pull your car up next to a spot you think will just fit it. (The spot should be two feet longer than your car. For new drivers, six feet longer. Ignore this if you do want to bump into others.)

Step 2: Pull Up

Put on your turn signal. Pull over carefully.

Step 3: Wind Back

Step 4: Turn Back

Changing direction at the halfway mark is the key to success. Without moving further back, turn the steering wheel in the opposite direction (away from the curb) so the front end moves towards the curb. Move very slowly at this point and be careful not to hit either bumper, in front or behind. Your car should slide right into the spot. If done correctly you should be less then 12 inches from the curb.
