Currently Playing: Lay All Your Love On Me - Mama Mia

GO CHINA !!!!

So...summer. I've been busy and I actually like it and not at the same time. Instead of moping around the house as a bum, I am actually working, sweating my butt off, and helping others along the way. Last month, I applied for a volunteer/internship for Hoag and actually got in !! The interview process went well, because I got to speak from the heart of why I want to volunteer as a CCE (Clinical Care Extender). Pfft, it may seem cheesy to you, but for those who are interested in working in the health care field should not do it for money--no, because for one to fully acquire full success in their job is to have the passion to help others in the health care industry because at the end of the day, you are helping a sick patient instead of yourself. Patients are the first priority. They do not have the choice to be sick, however you have the choice to have a career in healthcare--so you better do it for the right reasons. And helping patients smile and feel better is always a good thing to do :) I do that on my shifts everytime.

When I heard about the program, people discouraged me from applying saying that it's boring and you don't do anything. They were wrong, of course. Why? Because probably all they do is walk around the floor (which is usually the case) instead of directly asking the staff/RNs/PCAs if they need help...OR go into the patients' rooms to ask if anyone needs help. I cannot recall how many times I have walked into a patient's room and they actually needed help but were probably shy and afraid to ask for help. So, be assertive! (heh heh) So much has happened on my shifts and some moments were actually memorable.

My first rotation is actually on the Gynecology/Urology floor and the staff is very very nice and I get to have a beeper on me on my shift in case the Nurse Station needs me to help patients in room (insert number here). Occasionally, I'd stop by the Nurse Lounge around the afternoon on my shift where some of the RNs would always be watching some soap opera (I'm an expert at this since I watch those shows hehe) either All My Children or Days of Our Lives, but usually All My Children. I got to feed a diabetic elderly woman and it took about 45 minutes, and I enjoyed it :) Her relatives actually came in and we all watched the water polo Olympics in the room, while I fed the patient and we actually had a good conversation. Besides changing bed linens, refilling water pitchers, I was able to help an elderly patient walk around the floor, where we linked our arms together :) Also, I got to discharge patients...which is another activity that I enjoy...because I get to talk to them as I discharge them from the hospital. What's probably cool is that we have to use these elevators to discharge patients and only Hoag Staff can access it....which means I have to scan my ID badge in order to ride it. Isn't it so cool? Not to brag or anything, but I've been called "sweet" and "nice" by the patients ... now that feels good, because I'm actually doing something worthwhile. BTW, the Gynecology floor is the new East building...and each hospital room has a beautiful ocean view of Newport, it's like a hotel almost.

Mmm, saw Stepbrothers with my sister and cousin. Nut sack across a drumset? Interesting.

It's hot. No, it's not you.

So...I'm a commuter now to school :) It's actually nice to be able to have your own car and drive wherever you feel like going. Er hum, anyways, I just took my midterm for Chem last wednesday--one thing I like about the class is that they finish grading that same day and your scores will be sent that night around 6 pm (whee). I'm still getting used to the new xanga now, with all these new buttons and settings (hmm)...this is so weird, I don't even know what to write in here....I haven't written in a looong time, it feels like my fanfiction days (I haven't updated 2 of my stories for about 2 years now...hehe). Ok, have a good July 4th! Bye.

BTW: did you hear about the child rapist and the death penalty? I don't consider myself a cold-hearted person, but I think we should kill off sexual predators, plus it would help with the ever growing human population. Bye bye for now!

The Last Goodnight

I'm done with finals!! Well, I was actually done yesterday morning but anyways, there are alot of stuff that I have been reflecting upon during my second quarter as a freshman. Can you actually believe it? We're past the half way mark--I don't know whether it's the "quarter system" but I feel that my freshman year has flown past by. I'm going to miss it, mainly because I have met some awesome people in my suite. I love them very much!

Ah, as a freshman living in a dorm -- there are so many temptations. HAHA, no not THAT stuff, but more along the lines of : I should study but there's so much stuff going on in my dorm that I just want to stop doing homework and lounge around and idle about when I could have spent a productive afternoon studying instead of watching...perhaps a whole marathon of Keeping Up with the Kardashians with my roommate.

I have procrastinated more this quarter, but I believe that I have made it up towards the end, near finals. I have studied my butt off for some classes and have been rewarded afterwards :) All I can say is that Humcore is very challenging; but in the end, I believe that it's one of those classes that people hate but look back and say that they were glad that they took Humcore. Heck, it covers alot of your breadth requirements but also it makes you "learn" more compared to the other classes, in my opinion. If I had not taken this class--I would have never learned about Aristotle, Descartes, Jane Jacobs, Pierre Levy, Shostakovich, Gershwin...I feel very good about what I learned. I spend my idle time looking up and finding out stuff about celebrities; so it's nice to know some stuff about famous philosophers, composers, and contemporary writers these days. Man, next quarter I have to write a research paper, I'm worried about picking out a successful and appropriate topic for my paper. I have an idea on what I want to write about; but I have no idea on how to shape it into a possible thesis for my paper--it seems too limited now that I think about it...but I REALLY REALLY want to write about it.

By the way, I was shocked when I heard what Halle Berry named her daughter; but it's cute. Jennifer Lopez's twins are so cute on People--reminder note: must read the 12 page of so spread of the twins.

Anyway, this spring break is going to be very relaxing for me. After staying up late studying for those finals as well as last minute papers, I believe that I deserve a soothing vacation. What does that mean? Heck, I'm going to read 4 books this spring break (the ones that Cynthia let me borrow because she's so awesome). I don't know if I'm actually going to watch any Asian dramas; I got my suitemate INTO it and now she watches more than me. I've been the popular ones from each genre (Korean, Taiwanese, etc) but what bothers me is that I cannot find a decent Hong Kong drama that is geared towards teenagers; they're all long mature series that my parents always rent. Mmm, last night I was bored and decided to watch the first episode of this new Taiwanese drama, I could not get into it (it's possibly the actress) because I did not like her in "Prince Turns to Frog" but then again, the script was not at all that good...I did enjoy the couple's chemistry but other than that...I don't think I'm going to continue watching it. This goes for Coffee Prince, despite the fact that I loved the actress in Princess Hours/aka Goong. I think Jiro Wang is awesomely hott. Rosand got me into listening to Fahrenheit songs; of course I've tried to shy away from that music band in my senior year because of course, most of the songs, did not really "attract" me. But of course, when she showed me some of the songs--I started to like them. Yes, and I'm also slowly learning some Mandarin here and there. Ni hai hao ba? (hehehehhee)

I really really do hope that I'm not going to be as busy as I think I am for next quarter. I'm taking 19 units, is that a bit extreme?

Humanities Core 1C (8 units)
Chemistry 1B (4 units)
Chemistry 1LB (2 units)
Psychology Social Behavior 9 (4 units)
Public Health Seminar (1 unit)

I'm worried about lab--it's my first time next quarter and some of my suitemates already took Chem 1LB and they say that it's hard, but there is a curve in the end. Mm, to be honest, I'm going to miss my Chem professor for winter quarter. I liked his lectures and supplemental practice worksheets/tests; they were very helpful. Did I mention that he is Dutch? He went to a Netherlands university for his undergraduate studies and then attended Harvard. I like accomplished and intelligeent men--but not so intelligent that they become cocky and totally unattractive. Actually, come to think of it, I've learned quite alot regarding the opposite sex; mainly some were eye-openers and turn offs. I do not like idle/unmotivated guys with defeatist attitudes. But on the other note, I'm looking forward to a small party with Cynthia--whoo hoo !! :)

Little Wonders

So much has happened that I just have to put it all down here before I forget, because of course there are some memories that you wouldn't want to just forget or accidentally forget. Anyways, I will back til last Friday.

Friday
Finally, I have no quiz for bio because usually every friday we always have to have an iclicker quiz, eh heh , I don't really do well on those but oh well. I had chem discussion with Rosand and seriously, chemistry is pwning my butt these days, I miss professor McKeachie. It's not that I don't like my current professor, but I just shouldn't have dropped that chemistry class, but then again I wouldn't be able to have class with Rosand (sigh). Everything happens for a reason, dear. That's just one of the things that I live by now. Hmm, after bio, I realized that I had the day off from work and my lovely wife gave me a call asking if I wanted to hang out earlier on. Mmm, I chatted on the phone with someone special, and then had to go off to my second preliminary interview for the UCI Campus Representatives Program. Basically, as a UCI Campus Rep, I give campus tours (YESSS, I love doing those!) as well as serve on the student panel during events such as Honors Day, and other programs in order to motivate prospective UCI students to attend UCI. Mmm, my first interview was a group interview with 3 other girls and LOTS of interesting stuff happened during the interview, but then that night was my second interview, and so me, along with 50 + applicants (that night was the first reception, and there was another one for other students...so total of many applicants together) just pretty much mingled and did some fun activities with the current reps. We broke up in groups and for the last part, we each had to do a skit.

Thank goodness I had Drama class for the 3 years of my high school career, muahahhaa, full of ad-libbing and improvisation ! Anyways, our theme was the bookstore and so we decided to act out a "robbery" of the UCI bookstore. This guy and girl and me were the "campus reps" who are the heroes in the play. And for the current reps, they can't have a talking role but they are our "props" and soo...when we found out that the bookstore is getting robbed, I yelled out "oh no! the uci bookstore is getting robbed! it's time to save the day!" and the guy said "it's morphing time!!!!" (haha goood times) and we each put our hands in and said "School of Humanities!" "School of Biological Sciences" and "School of Social Sciences" (since we 3 represent a department of the UCI Campus) and then we each had special powers. So the guy had the zot speed, and this girl had the power of using archery (one of the campus reps was her "arrow") and mine was the power to stretch my arms far (so one of the other reps was my arm...running after the robber and bringing her back to me hehe) The night was fun. During the beginning of the reception, each applicant had to POSE for a picture. Mine was "oops I did it again" while other people had different themes like "apple bottom jeans, boots with the fur" and "flava of love" etc...I expected the event to be quite formal and interrogative, but it was waaaay much fun. 2 hours of fun !! woot woot !! I hope I get in :)

Mmm, after that my lovely wife and I went on a wonderful movie date to see Definitely, Maybe and the movie is absolutely cute and adorable! It's from the people who brought you Notting Hill and Love Actually (so obviously the film is going to be good anyways). When we went there the movie was FULL, but luckily since Andrea worked there, we sneaked in and had to sit in the fronter seats but the movie was really good. There was this specific scene that made me teary-eyed...and is one of my FAVORITE LINES in the film:

Since the little girl played by Abigail Breslin (she was in Little Miss Sunshine) knows that her parents are getting a divorce but asks her dad to tell her the story of how they met and fell in love but she had to guess who her mother was since the dad made up names and changed things around. She finally finds out who her mother is, but is sad because the story doesn't have a happy ending since her parents...the dad is played by Ryan Reynolds (he was Van Wilder....and is rumored to be engaged to Scarlett Johanssen) buuuut...here is my favorite part:

Dad: I never told you what was the happy ending.
Girl: What was it?
Dad: You.

OMGGGGGGGGGGGGG, can this movie *BE* any more good ?! (Sorry, had to bust out a Chandler moment haha) Anyways, at that line, I literally had tears in my eyes. MMMM, very good. You guys should see it !! Some movies that I really really wanna see, that is already out or coming out is:

1. Jumper (omg it's HAYDEN!)
2. The Other Boleyn Girl (very very strong cast with ERIC BANA)

So anyways, I have a crush on this asian actor, which is a rarity since I don't really find asian guys attractive that much lately, and he is absolutely handsome. What sucks is that he's the "best friend" in this series with the girl and FOR ONCE, I'm rooting for the best friend in this asian drama. Usually, the best friend never gets the girl in Asian dramas......buuut, in American films/shows they usually do. Ironic, isn't it? Anyways, for this show, I'm soooo not rooting for the main couple because I think that the girl (Hebe, from the tw singer group S.H.E) has better chemistry with Lee Wei than Mike He (he was in Devil Beside You, Love Contract, and Why Why Love). I find Mike He's acting pretty boring because he seems the same in all of the asian dramas that I've seen him in; there's nothing NEW about him, he always have that quirky cocky half smile he makes whenever the girl heroine jokes and makes fun of him,,,, and of course they fall for each other in the end. Ugh, I want Lee Wei to get with Hebe!!! IF they don't, well I think that there should be another series that has Hebe and Lee Wei as the main couple! Those two have undeniable chemistry with each other and look soo cute together!

I have a paper due this week.
I have a chem midterm next week.
Ehhhhhhh ...
