I haven't updated my Xanga in years.  I wonder if any of my friends still log on every once in awhile.
I was going to start a new online journal.  Greg has one and I've been reading his posts.  They inspire me to write my own, but I know I won't be as dedicated as he is.  I didn't want to write notes on Facebook (too public), so I decided to come back to Xanga.  Albeit my return will probably be short and sweet, I'm still here.  This site has changed a great deal since the last time I logged on (a year or two ago).  There are so many new features.  Everything is starting to look a lot like Facebook nowadays.  Our generation has been dubbed the "Myspace/Facebook Generation."  In some ways that thought saddens me.  Is that all we've amounted to - pictures and information about ourselves on an Internet site?
I can hardly believe I'm 20.  I remember making my first Xanga page in 2002.  Six years ago.  Wow.  So much has changed since then.  Where has the time gone?  If you asked me at age 14 if I thought my life would be the way it is now at age 20, I would've said, "Yeah, right."  These past six years have been full of short cuts, dead ends, wrong ways and a few pleasant surprises.  I never imagined I'd end up at Queens College studying English (with a pending minor in Psychology).  I never imagined I'd be living at home after high school.  I never imagined I'd have some of the friends I have today.  My grades haven't changed much since high school, but my attitude and personality certainly have (for the most part).  I've grown up a lot since then.  I've "matured," whatever that means.  I've experienced this thing we call life.  I'm not proud of myself, though.  Not yet anyway.  I still have a lot more to do, see and experience before I can say that I'm proud of the person I've become.
My mom always says, "Life is what you make it," and I'm determined to make mine as wonderful as I possibly can.  I'll consent to busting my ass as an undergrad.  I'll even consent to busting my ass as a grad student.  But, beyond that, I'm going to have to start kicking some ass.  I'm not ready yet.  I'm still too young and inexperienced.  The plight of an undergrad is this: you're caught in the middle between "childhood" and "adulthood."  You're old enough to make your own decisions, but you're still not quite old enough to be taken seriously.  It's frustrating, but we all must go experience it.
Six years ago when I started blogging on here I didn't have any future goals for myself.  Well, I did, but they were extremely vague.  Sure, I knew I was going to graduate from Central in 2006 and go on to pursue a degree in college, but I didn't know how or where I'd do so.  I was without any specific goals for my future.  Right now I'm going to write down a list of goals I have.  I'll try to log back on and post an update if I happen to achieve one of them.  A few of them will be lifetime goals, but most of them are relatively short term.

My Goals:
1. Graduate from Queens College (with a 4.0).
2. Find a career I'm passionate about.
3. Study some form of psychology in Grad School.
4. Give a definition to the word "love," and stick with it.
5. Fill my walls with meaningful pictures.
6. See a shooting star (again).
7. Gamble in Las Vegas.
8. Visit Disney World again.
9. Buy a car.
10. Pierce a second hole in each of my ears.
11. Be happy with the person I used to be, the person I am and the person I'm becoming.
12. Embrace the unknown.  Or, at the very least, become more comfortable with it.  (Note: I'm not sure this will ever happen.  In general, humanity isn't comfortable with any sort of blind embrace.  We develop theories and ideas about the unknown so as to give it some sort of meaning or definition).
13. Write a book.
14. Make a significant difference in someone else's life.
15. Dream the way I did when I was 15.

I'm sure I'll add to this in the future, but, for now, what I have is enough.  Some of these goals are far fetched, but you never know.  Maybe I will learn to be comfortable with aspects of my life I've yet to come to terms with.  Perhaps I'll delve into the field of psychology and develop a cure for my worries.  Anything is possible.  I used to believe wholeheartedly in the orgiastic future.  And now?  I'm not so sure what I believe in anymore.
Oh, well, enough rambling.  It's summertime!  I have six weeks until school begins again and I want to enjoy my time.  As it is I'm going to the Kanye/Lupe concert in August with Rishi and flying down to Florida shortly thereafter.  I'm not sure what the rest of my summer will hold, but I hope it'll be full of memories that will last me a lifetime and beyond.  (OK, so I've retained some of my high school corniness!).

Here's a sample entry to show you some of the basics

Adding New Entries - to add a new entry to your site, just click the "New Weblog Entry" link above (it's right under the "search all xanga" bar). When you click the link, your little xTools Editor window will pop up. Just type your entry into the xTools window and click "Submit" to add it to your site.

Editing Your Entries - to make edits, click the little "edit it" link at the bottom of your entry. (Note: if you don't see this link, it means you're not signed into your Xanga site. When you sign into your site, you should see this link after each of your entries.) When you click the link, your little xTools Editor window will pop up showing your current entry. Make any edits you want in that window and then click "submit" to publish the edited entry to your site.

Public vs. Private Entries - this entry is currently private, which means only you can see it. You can make each of your entries "public" (for anyone to read) or "private" (for your eyes only) when you first write them or anytime you "edit" them. You can also flip this setting back and forth by clicking the little "Public/Private Entry" link at the bottom of each entry.

Adding Links and Images - to add links and images to your entries, just click the little "Add Link" or "Add Image" links inside your xTools Editor window. The specific steps that happen next depend upon the type of browser and computer you're using (click here see a detailed description), but they should be pretty easy to follow no matter what you're using .

Some Editing Tricks - if you're using an Internet Explorer browser, you can use standard keyboard shortcuts when writing or editing your entries (e.g. Ctrl-b for bold, Ctrl-i for italics, Ctrl-u for underline). You can also use standard keyboard shortcuts to cut and paste: ctrl-c to cut and ctrl-v to paste. (Sorry, Netscape and some other browsers may not support these features, yet.)

More Things to Try - there are lots of great ways to use and customize your weblog. Visit our Getting Started section for more ideas.

Good luck and have fun with your weblog!

P.S. Don't forget to install your xTools Browser Button; it takes only a few seconds to install, it lets you publish anytime, from anywhere on the Web... and it's free!
