a box of chocolate

life is like a box of chocolate.
you never know what you're going to get.
therefore you take the risk.
you pick and choose hoping that it'll be the one you're looking for.
sometimes you are disappointed.
but then again that's life.
life is like a box of chocolate.

finally!

I've finally decided to declare a major in Management Science and a minor in Psychology :) how exciting is that!

I feel like a load of stress has been lifted after making this decision, and am very glad that I haven't been too off-track with my courses.

School's been wonderful and I am cooking a lot. I just hope I do not stop cooking once school starts. Anyway, just little boosts for myself writing something down. goodluck to all !

quotes quotes quotes

"It is well to remember that the entire population of the universe, with one trifling exception, is composed of others." -John Andrew Holmes

"The greatest thing in life is to keep your mind young." -Henry Ford

"Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there." -Arthur Godfrey

"The test of a first-rate intelligence is the ability to hold two opposed ideas at the same time, and still retain the ability to function." -F. Scott Fitzgerald

"Learning without thought is labor lost." -Confucius

"How can I tell what I think till I see what I say?" - E. M. Forster

It has always discouraged me when I think about books. Books were always a scary zone for me, paragraphs after paragraphs, pages after pages. It is not until this summer, (or I suppose a bit of last summer), with all this free time that I have to spend, that I've really turned to the leisure side of appreciating books and what it can bestow upon my mind. Like Henry Ford's quote, "the greatest thing in life IS to keep [the] mind young". How on point that quote is. To waste life away with games, movies, tv, though instantaneous gratification is achieved, these mediocre media entertainment made-up to satisfy the curiosities of those that sit at home with 'nothing' to do will only lead to an empty thought process. No wonder there are so many libraries, and no wonder they've existed since I don't know when. Bottom of the line says: I am no longer scared of books. No matter how stupid that sounds. It's a great realization. I suppose a relief too. :)

emotional contagion as force for group cohesion

psychology by peter gray reads..

a social group is not just a collection of individuals. it is a unified collection. people in a social group behave, in many ways, more like one another than the same people would if they were not in a group. they tend automatically to mimic one another's postures, mannerisms, and styles of speech, and this imitation contributes to their sense of rapport. they also tend to take on the same emotions.... people everywehre express emotions in relatively similar ways. such expressions help members of a group know how to interact with one another by seeing others' emotional expressions, group memebers know who needs hlep, who should be avoided, and who is mmost approachable at the moment for help. in addition, people tend automatically to adopt the emotions they they perceive in those around them, and this helps the group to function as a unit... one of the most contagious of all emotional signals is laughter, as evidenced by the regularity of mutual laughter in everyday interactions and the effectiveness of laugh tracks in inducing laughter in audiences. the easy spread of laughter apparently helps put a gorup into a shared mood of playfulness, which reduces the chance that one person will be offened by the remarks or actions of another. in addition to coordinating people's actions, shared emotions seem to promote bonds of affection or attachment among those who share the moods, which contribute to the long-term stability of social relationships and groups.

yeahhhhhhhhh, that's why we love our friends, and that's why people share each other's happiness and pain!
