NAOMI presentation thingy:

Hi. My name is Jonathan Hung and I will be a freshman in college this fall.

I would like to share a verse from Psalm 34:18 that says, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” After NAOMI, I feel as if I am closer to God because my heart has been broken by what I have seen. My experience in Arizona has been all about relationships. I have seen the lack of relationships the abused orphans must face and how that affects them. Playing with them everyday, I saw how much attention each of them yearns for and how open they are to meeting new people.  During the week, I tried to build relationships with as many of the children as possible, whether it was reading them a story or just listening to what they had to say. I connected the most with an 18 month old boy who had just arrived while we were there. His mother was a drug addict and had neglected him. I struggled all week to figure out why he had to suffer at such a young age. Why did he have to start his life with such a bad relationship? Having grown up with support from many family and friends, it was hard to imagine how all these children managed to cope with so many broken relationships. On the other hand, I also saw how our youth group built relationships with each other through the work we did building a roof, taking daily showers in the dirty river, and singing songs at the campfire. Whether having strong bonds or not, God has shown me the most important relationship is with Him. It is this covenant that we strive to share with our brothers and sisters and especially to the children at NAOMI. I would like to thank the congregation for giving us this wonderful opportunity to spread God’s love to the NAOMI children whom are truly the ones with “broken hearts” and “crushed spirits.”
