  • My day started off pretty terribly, but then...

I cracked open a fortune cookie that I found in my room, and I found this:

I thought to myself, that's a little unusual.  Upon closer inspection, I realized

Pretty amazing, I have to say.
Yeah, some of them are repeats, but amazing nonetheless.
Needless to say, I'm not feeling so down anymore!

p.s. I realized afterwards that I probably should have taken a picture of the fortune cookie itself, but I had already popped it into my mouth by the time I realized that I should document this momentous event.  I thought it'd be a little gross to take it out of my mouth and stuff the fortunes back into it.

  • Despite the fact that I have a toothache/headache and am sleep-deprived,

    TODAY HAS BEEN FANTASTIC.

1   I got everything on my to-do list done.
And it was a long to-do list.

2   I'm now officially a declared American Studies major.

3   Chamber music rehearsal was ridiculously productive,
and we got a lot of major things accomplished.
We had good bonding time, too.

4  My studio art minor portfolio review went better than I had expected.
I went in with a specific question - if I could be exempted from Drawing I.
I left with the faculty's suggestion that I consider being a studio art major.
Now I'm considering art school again,
But I'm still scared of it. (haha)

    - - -

Now I really need to crack open the books and get my actual homework done.
I always feel more productive when I'm able to plan out my future, though.
Homework will always get done eventually!

I suppose it's time for my monthly update.

(Way too much has happened in the past two months to put into one xanga entry (without me spending 2 hours typing it all up, so I'll just give you the very abbreviated version.)

School has been such a pain in the arse lately.  But in a good way!  I'm so much busier than last year, to the point of ridiculousness, but for me, being busy all the time > having too much free time.  A combination of classes (especially my photo class; it's incredible how much time it takes up.  My photo professor is incredibly intimidating, but I love her to death.  Crit times are not happy times though.  She really makes you want to cry.  Ouch.), viola lessons/chamber music rehearsals/practice, and work takes up all the time I have during the daytime and nighttime.  I still make sure I get my minimum of 6 and a half hours of sleep every night.  I wouldn't be able to function without it.  I rocked my midterms, though!  Surprisingly.  I guess that means I'm actually enjoying my classes this year, unlike last year...

For those of you that care, I'm declaring as an American studies major sometime in the near future, especially after my history professor (also in the American studies department) indirectly offered to be my major advisor.    That makes things a lot easier and it works out well since she has a focus on class/race issues, which I'm interested in also.  She also happens to be the study abroad advisor for American studies majors, too.  Talk about a coincidence.  I went in to her office hours yesterday to discuss it, and she suggested that I intern at the Smithsonian museum during my fall semester next year, and then go abroad to London my spring semester.  How perfect would that be??  It's strange to think that I'd be away from Smith for an entire year, though.  And it also freaks me out because it's next year.  ugh so soon.  But looking so forward to it.

So tragic! ...to a girl, anyway.

LOOK WHAT HAPPENED TO MY HAIR STRAIGHTENER!

Boo hoo hoo... one whole side of the hot plates cracked off, which is not so cool because it technically still works -- it's just a little... mangled.  Basically, it got knocked off my dresser.  And it snapped in half.  Fantastic.  I found some Krazy Glue and glued it together, but when I did a test run, it just broke again.  It wasn't fitting cleanly together to begin with, though.  I think I need to buy a new one.  Which will be difficult since I'm in the middle of nowhere and I have no idea where the nearest store would be that sells good hair straighteners.  Thus, I'll have to order it online and wait until it comes.  What a PAIN.

R.I.P. my beloved hair straightener.  You have served me well.

Besides the unfortunate demise of one of my close comrades, Smith is going pretty well.  Jordan is WAY more crazy and social than Cutter ever was, so it's going to take a while to adjust a.k.a. try not to be so anti-social.  Which I'm being right now, since I'm skipping Convocation.  I don't really enjoy being in a room full of hundreds of basically naked, drunken girls that are screaming their hearts out.  I'd rather go to the library.  Which is where I'm trying to get a JOB, but everyone I've contacted says there's no immediate positions open.  So I applied to work at the local public library and I'm going in for an interview tomorrow. I really don't want to work in the dining hall anymore...
