get-a-rhythm!

so today is the 2 year anniversary nick's passing. it's crazy how fast time goes by, and how much life changes. i'm not anywhere close to where i was and not anywhere near where i thought i would be. not that i'm not happy with where i've landed, just a bit different than i expected. i wish life were as simple as it was then, i know things would have changed anyway but, it was so comfortable.

here's to all the good times, the memories i'll always cherish, and some of the best times of my life.

to quote one of your old country tunes,

i'll love you forever and ever, forever and ever amen. <3

miss ya pal.

a brand new squeaky clean 2008

goodbye 2007! get the hell out!! i'm pretty psyched about 2008, new year, new beginnings. usually i'm still looking back at this point but i don't have many things i cherish about 2007. there are obviously some wonderful memories, but they are clouded by all the shit that happened in 2006 as well.

i'm with laura, i plan to spend more time with friends i care about this year. time is precious :)

now that i've had my break from school i realize i should have never left and am soooo0 happy to be returning! i think i did need the break in a way to figure that out though. i'm not sure what university will follow after this semester but i guess time will tell. i kinda want to go fah fah away. UBC would be AMAZING! but the likeliness of me moving to canada is slim. although, if i get a new car soon (which is in the works) then i could load up a u-haul and say goodbye to the u s and a. maybe i should give in and go some where close to home, but that just puts a sour taste in my mouth. ehh, whatevs.

i possibly got a job doing student services for cy-fair community college. not crazy cash, but better than what 'm making now. $10 an hour/20 hours a week. i could get a night job, but that might be too much with classes. we'll see.

here's to a new life in the new year!! cheers!

freedom = maggie rita's

Maggie villa was born in Tequila, Mexico in 1895 on Cinco de Mayo. Her mother, the wife of the Mexican Irish ambassador was rumored to have left her husband for her lover the notorious revolutionary bandit, El General Pancho Villa. Under their watchful care she lived a sheltered life as a Nina. As she blossomed into womanhood with her mother's flaming Irish hair and her ample latin assets, the voluptuos beauty had no trouble attracting the attention of many an Hombre, but none dared approach except one.....

Rico "El Suave" Rita was a captain in her father's army. Dashing, handsome, adventurous, masculine and virile he was described by many as being MUY MACHO.... women offered teir virtue to him everywhere he went and he beng the caballero, would never rfuse their generosity. Durig  fiesta celebrating St. Patrick's day in 1913 he was introduced to the Irish/Latina Maggie.

The moment their eyes met they knew it was love at first sight. With the blessing of El General, Maggie and Rico were married that very same day. Esa noche Maggie finally experienced the touch of a man.

Sadly the ext morning Rico left his new bride to lead his men i the battle for the ancient Aztec pueblo of Xi-Xi Munchas where he was lured into a booby trap, captured and hng from his neck until dead.

Needless to say Maggie was devastated. She couldn't understand why the only man she had ever loved had been taken from her, leaving her to vow that she would never again be with another until she was reunited with the spirit of her beloved Rico.

In her desperate attempts to overcome her greif Maggie visited many a brujo & bruja seeking a way t contact her departed lover. During a seance she was told that the only way the spirit of her Rico could return was the way it had left. She was to find a man who had suffered the fate of her Rico , but had lived to tell about it.

Tired of traveling and searchng the world, Maggie decided to open a place int he village of Houston de Tejas, where virile, macho men would gather to eat, drink and be merry, lured by the hopes of meeting all the beautiful senoritas in attendance.  Here Maggie spent the rest of her days unable to fulfill her destiny for amongst all these men full of lifeshe was never to find her amor "El Suave", for no man was ever able to prove that he too had been hung like her Rico!

This is how Maggie Rita's bar and grill was born.

PS: It is said tat every night during the happy hour after one as enjoyed a teqila followed by the juice of a lime, a virile, macho man will feel a sensation resembling hands searching for signs that they were hung like Rico. Beautiful Senoritas however, report that after they have sampled the same, they experience a tingle in their hands followed by a feeling of being possessed by the ghost of La Maggie.

There is a creepy drawing of 'Maggie' on the front of the menu and that story by the drinks. (yes i stole a menu, but i'm framing it and keeping it in my kitchen for 'Rita' nights.) So this pace was amazing. We caught happy hour and after 2 Rico Ritas and 3 Maggie Ritas the bunch of us all felt excellent. The group consisted of Brey, Jyoti, Amy, Richard, Nkrumah and yours truly. This rivals quarter nights in Huntsville for being best tuesday ever. We wandered all around West Alabama and eventually made it home this morning. It was a wonderful way to bring back the single Brey. Yep, you heard right, he's been single since monday.... Lets see if he can make a week....... :)
