Serious Update

For the, what, three of you that still use xanga, I thought I'd post a blog.  *sigh*  This is nostalgic lol.  Well this year I am attending Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa as a vocal performance major.  I love love LOVE it here!  My voice has grown tremendously and I feel I have a really promising future.  But everything about that future is sort of up in the air.  Ideally, I will get the internship at Cedar Rapids Opera Theater this summer and then come back to Des Moines and do Epicenter (I'll tell you more about it if you're wondering).  During my time participating in Epicenter, I will live in a house with 5 other girls.  At the end of the summer, I'll have like 2 weeks or so to visit my family in good old Wichita.  Then I'll come back to the house and start school as a senior.  After that, I want to go to grad school with a major in vocal performance and a minor (or possible double major) in choral conducting.  Then I will perform professionally and Lord knows what else until I settle down and have a family.  At that point I will probably end up directing a choir somewhere...  or not.  My family will be my priority.

Speaking of which, the other huge change in my life since I've been here is that I was saved.  I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior on September 30th last semester.  Since then, I've been growing more and more in my relationship with God and becoming more and more involved in my church's ministry.  It's really wonderful to have the Christian fellowship I do.  I have so many supportive friends to keep me on the right path and lead me by example.  I also have discovered the joys of teaching sunday school (3-to-6-year-olds).  I actually love little kids...  So in my church, we have some funny ideas about relationships.  God has changed my heart about dating, men, being a biblical woman and having a family.  So I hope someday God will make apparent who he has planned for me and at that point I will be looking at a long-term relationship leading to marriage (and children).  I can't wait for that, and who knows when that point will come (it could be half-way through my education or after or whenever).  We'll see.

In the meantime, my life is all about living for God and sharing in the joy He has granted me.  I'm really blessed to be where I am...  ~Dani

Nostalgia

Current mood: sleepy

So I've been busy this summer.  Busy = good.  I'm taking one last class at Butler to finish and keep my degree (Marriage and Family) and working at Taco Bell full time to save for next year (they were the only place that would hire me for 2 months).  I'm almost done with my class and I'm actually enjoying my job, but I'm starting to really miss my Butler friends.   And the reality of next year is starting to hit me.  I am in the process of preparing myself for life in Iowa by looking for warm clothing and boots.  I haven't found that much just yet, as you can imagine, but I guess I should save some of my shopping for my new friends in Iowa this fall.  Anyway, it seems like nobody has read my last post, the mushy gushy one about the end of the school year.  If you haven't read it, you should.  Yeah well I should go to bed...  it's pretty late and I have class in the morning.  Hope you all are having a fantastic summer!  ~Dani

Sentimental Journey

Current mood: nostalgic

My two years here at Butler have been quite an experience.  They have been a blast, and at the same time, introduced me to unbelieveable stress and grief.  I am sad to say that I have lost some friends since I got here.  But I am happy to say that I have made so many more.  The sad times were many, and my health has suffered some for this lifestyle, but I would never say that I regretted it because in the process I have earned a degree, acquired skills, and most of all, met new, wonderful people.  I have to say that what I'm going to miss the most about this place is all of you.  I know this is typical and corny, but it's true.  I feel like I have established a sort of second family that I hope to keep for a very long time.  While I am looking forward to my adventure at Drake next year, I am heartbroken to think that I might not get to see you guys in a very very long time, if ever again.  I'm going to miss you terribly.  No matter what happens, please please keep in contact with me!  And I wish you all the best in the years to come!  I hope you will come to cherish this place as I have and leave with something to show for yourself, proving your value to your worried family and your worth to the world.  My departing advice to you would be as follows:

1) Always consult your heart and your closest friends before making big decisions.

2) Always do what makes you happy and successful no matter what others say.

3) Read your bible, eat your vegetables, wash behind your ears, etc.

4) Take some time out for yourself when you need it.

5) Always try to be there for your friends when they need you because you never know when you might need them.

6) Always remember your worth and that you are loved by many.

7) Never leave someone you care about without telling them how you feel.

And on that note, I think I will close with this:  I LOVE YOU GUYS!!!!!!  ~Dani
