The Complete Calvin and Hobbes! (Bill Watterson is the best!) And my first digi-cam!

The comic above is one of my favorites. It reminds me, oddly, of fresh times. As I was leaving from Oklahoma and coming to Michigan, my dazzled mind was not only punch-drunk with all sorts of hopes and dreams, but equally intent on staying neat and clean. And on the first day of class, I was already well-prepared to graduate just so I could begin saving THEEE EEENTIIIRE WOOORLD! Since then, in words best said by Wordsworth, "Five years have past; five summers, with the length of five long winters!" And half-a-decade is long enough to weather anything down to, as my friend Calvin says, a ground-down, rounded, indistinguishable stump, missing his wrapper, and smudged with other colors. Yes, it can be tragic, and let me tell you, it has been tragic. But perhaps it can also mean that I am at my best when mixed and smudged with other colors. And in that line of thought, perhaps being worn-down means I'm just a favorite color in God's set of crayolas, being used to create a much more beautiful picture than what I ever could have hoped on my own...
before...

and after!

I'll leave you with a word from Tennyson's Ulysses: Though much is taken, much abides; and though
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are--
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.
